Those SL Mercs from the 80s and 90s are a bit too Pam Ewing and Jennifer Hart for me. I'd be humming the theme tunes driving them.

A CL would break your heart and wallet if it started going wrong but its meaner looking

We're talking about the R129, Bobby drove an R107! The W140 CL can have issues with damp fuseboxes and PSE pumps. To buy one new today costs €185,000 and you would expect crazy prices for parts for both cars but parts are cheaper than you think and the cars are reliable. I do a lot of work myself but having access to a lift and the Mercedes SD connect diagnostics helps. They are built to high standards but with repair in mind - if you crack a foglight on the SL, you buy a replacement lens for €21, you don't have to replace the whole lot. 80 mph @ 2000 rpm on the motorway.

You are thinking about the previous model.

These SL's are more Wilmslow Wag. :)

    728i, 01/17, €1850.

Doesn't have all the options (no elec. seats) and probably hasn't been on the road for a few months judging by tax & insurance, but worth a look.

Beautiful looking Damiler V8. I love the rear seat divide, it's such a pointless but cool option. Screams luxobarge imo.
Does seem like this one needs a bit spent on it. I'd be inclined to ask them to put it through the test before any cash is handed over, but the other listed jobs-to-do seem trivial.

Really? That's not an attitude I understand at all.

I honestly could't care less what other people think of me, I'm 24 and I would be proud to drive that:cool: Really superb machine, not as nice as the last one that was posted in here though with the CD plates.

What a beauty, but yes they'd really need to run it through the test, for the sale

I guess you're the only person in Ireland doing that kinda mileage on a V8 petrol (non LPG) classic car :D

I was thinking more like €300 fully comp insurance (as a first car on either 280 or 500 - they would cost the same) as a classic policy and maybe 4-5k km / year.

Obviously in my case maintenance is only low too. I've come across figures from those magazines before and they are for keeping a new or nearly new car in top condition with all servicing done as scheduled by a full main Mercedes-Benz dealer. Not really comparable with luxobangernomics...

I'm doing 20k on my V8 petrol non classic non lpg with a nice chunk on insurance... especially this year... and a nice chunk on tax obviously but as you know I wouldn't give it up for anything!! I scale everything else back, I do the work on it myself.
If you're a petrol head and you love your cars you can do it. Cars are not complicated to fix or work on, the only thing that stops me fixing anything is equipment and the biggest part of that is a lift... Everything else can be done by Joe soap with a bit of research and patience.

Ya couldn't see myself driving it even though it's a savage bus and I all ready drive an old man car..

Well according to Unkels theory I will be driving one in 15 years time so watch this space..

Last of this model, NCT'd until October but for €2250.

I see the engine light is on. A potential bargaining tool but a potential money pit also. Worth a punt?

I would. As close as you'll get to an S8 without the high maintenance.

I wonder how much the aluminium in the A8 is worth for scrap , ?...?..

    Only joking

The description section reads like a classifieds stream of consciousness!

The year of the car added on the end of the phone number (twice)!

Very nice looking '450h - slightly over budget but I'd say it could be bought for €5k. Obvious lack of mileage mentioned is a worry, but it should be worth a look. Fresh NCT and all

Presumably some DIY effort, fairly rancid anyway.

You edited your post adding second picture and all the text after I posted :D

'86-'93 E32 7-series it is indeed, didn't even have to google, although I never owned a BMW that old :D

I never owned a BMW quite that old myself but a 7 series of that type was one of the first BMWs I remember driving. Might be because it was a V8 7 series that I remember it, can still recall the smell of that car :)

Then you had one with the lovely M60 V8. I had that same engine in my E34 5-series. And its successor in my E38 7-series :)

    Want a V8 again!

In general, this thread has fairly died in terms of car content compared to say a year or two ago. Have we finally reached the end? Are the luxobarges gone for good?
