Certainly very pretty. I think this might have been overlooked because of the characters she played.

So gutted about this. Such a talent.

It is easy to lose the run of yourself when a celeb dies but I will echo comments about her genius.

When you think of the premise of The Royal Family. Every episode was written with the characters based solely in the sitting room (talking about this-talking about that) and it never fluctuated from this. Every episode was hilarious and engaging. That takes some talent to write such a sit com.

Paul Daniels might be having a few words with her.

So Mr. Grim Reaper what first attracted you to Caroline

Personally, I generally only comment on the RIP threads of people I was a fan of, and I was a huge, huge fan of Caroline's so I have no problem saying I feel so sad right now. :( Watching comedy is a big part of my life and the people who have who made me laugh down the years have had a profound effect on me.

Love this. Very magnanimous of Debbie McGee. :) Of course, she's had her own sad loss this year. :(

The episode of Royle family where nana dies for me is the most briliant piece of television ever made. So funny and yet so heartbreaking, its a work of genius. For her many faults Denise was my hero. Thanks for the laughs Caroline

Just got breaking news on the BBC right now that actress Caroline Aherne, who was best known for roles in The Fast Show, Mrs Merton & The Royale Family, has died of throat cancer aged 52.

Very sad news. I used to love her role in the Royale Family. May she RIP.

She actually co-wrote the Royale Family with Craig Cash (Dave).

    Loved her as Denise.

    Gets up to make tea.

Jim says "grab my fags while you're in there, love".

Denise replies "shove a brush up my arse and I'll sweep the floor".

    RIP.

Very sad to hear of her passing, she was very talented and her writing for 'The Royle Family' was exceptional at times, whilst both of you were watching Pulp Fiction.

My memories of her are from the supermarket checkout girl in the Fast Show!

Talented lady by all accounts, sad loss.

    Sad to hear.

The Royle Family is one of the greatest sitcoms ever.

Incredibly well written in that it didn't feel like it was written at all.

The Queen of Sheba episode is one of the most beautiful and moving episodes of television ever created. To be able to get an episode of television so right shows what a genius she was.

RIP I absolutely loved the Royle family.

Ethanol is the most common form of which substance ?

Dave: Alcohol I taught you would have known that Denise.

Denise: I've never even drank Ethanol.

Genius writing you will be sorely missed.

Just so young. 52. Cancer is horrible. I hope she's at peace now.

The royle family is so lifelike, a lot of people can relate to it.

The sunday dinner, the grandmother being there, the neighbours etc

I knw the actor who played Twiggy died a few years ago, did the irish actress who played the neighbour Mary die too ???

At least once every 3 months I sit and watch the episode 'the Queen of sheba' where nana dies. It is hilarious and sad at the same time. The kids slag me for watching the same thing time in and time out, but its just brilliant TV.

    At Nana's funeral:
Jim 'Well, a miracle happened today, Barb'
    Barb : 'What, Jim?'
Jim: 'Our Denise got off her arse and made the buffet'

    Brilliant

Loved her comedy skills, I'm very sad for her family and friends .

Herself and Dave leaving the kids with random neighbours was so funny

She was my favorite in the royle family, my brother used to call me Denise because I was a bit dim in my teens.

I don't normally comment on these threads but im really sad to hear this :(

Genius writing. It never fails to make me laugh.

Barbara - What have you had for your tea Denise?
    Denise - Spaghetti
    Barbara - Ooo Bolognese?
    Denise - Hoops

So sad. The Royle Family will be an enduringly brilliant comedy. She and Craig Cash had some absolute genius moments in writing that. Well, each episode is pretty much classic, and I still watch it fairly regularly.

Another one of these cases where I thought she was out of the woods with her illness and then you get this news. :(

Was just watching a few of her Mrs Merton interviews and it struck me how many of the guests she was interviewing are also now dead- Paul Daniels, George Best, Jimmy Hill, etc.

    She was tremendously talented.
