New chain and sprockets on the Vstrom today.

I priced around and was getting quotes of €220 fitted from most garages. I rang Steven up in NDM and he suggested I call Cotters as "can can't touch them on prices for chains and tyres".

Rang Cotters (thank you Steven @ NDM) and saved myself €50 ~ Chain & sprockets fitted for €170 :)

Got a new exhaust for the gixxer. Was gona buy an arrow or a leo vince but I cant justify spending 500 quid on a slip on can for a 2007 bike that is essentially for noise and aesthetics.

Bought a dominator gp exhaust from Poland for around 180 quid, build quality looks really good for the price, welds are clean and tight. ,il put up pics of it on the bike once fitted. Ive posted a pic below of what it should look like. There is also a de cat pipe included but i didnt take a pic.

The baffle is removable and to put it very kindly wasn't straight in the pipe. It was straight as would go in most pipes as standard but I have bent it so it fits the curve of the pipe and will be more effective, im not going to run it without the baffle, I imagine it will be crazy loud as is.

Had tried cleaning the fork stanchions recently as they were so dull and oxidised, which is no wonder for a 1993! Did some research and finally bought a tube of Autosol yesterday evening. The guy at the counter asked me if I'd used it before and told me how amazing it was. He wasn't joking!

    Early on into the cleaning...
    388809.jpg

Then took it to the down-pipes, this is half way through...

    388810.jpg

Ended up taking the Autosol to the dash, brake levers, the metal mount of the radiator and the chain guard. Unbelievable stuff.

And this was her finished last night:

    And this morning:

I also touched up a few bits where the rust was coming through the black paint on the frame and the springs. Delighted with how she came out. She'll never be pristine but it makes a good difference.

You didn't happen to see the post on r/motorcycles on reddit last week? I got a tube of autosol after reading it, but haven't used it yet!
What sort of cloth did you use to apply? Did it take long? Elbow grease or drill attachment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

Autosol is savage stuff. Although the most use it gets from me these days is cleaning up 2 euro coins from the tooth fairy so they are super shiny

No but I think I saw that post too!

I used an ordinary dishcloth type cloth. Also tried with a sponge with a rough and smooth side. Didn't much much difference. To be fair, it doesn't actually take THAT much elbow grease either.

Guy on reddit used steel wool.
Here's his post. Might go at mine tonight

Cleaned up my Bonny during the fine weather with about a 5th of a tube of Autosol, amazing stuff and goes a ridiculously long way.

For any of the rust spots I left a small spray of ACF 50, a friend gave me his can; he recommended it so much he said he was going to buy a few of them online! I can see why, some of the smaller rust spots dissappeared entirely and a huge reduction in rust on the bigger ones - keep at them and they'll go right down too I'm sure.

So ya, definitely a must for your bike maintainence bag. Probably best to spray it during the wet weather or a few week before a big polish with your Autosol!

Sebatron, I've got a few rust spots beginning to appear, must get some ACF, might check motor factor.

    Is this the gear?

    [IMG][/img]uip7QHp.png

I have a parcel motel account, if anyone fancies ACF as described above I could order a few in, and not charge for delivery just the amazon price.
You can pm me, the order goes in on Friday. I'm in Dublin and the parcel motel is at glasnevin cemetery. Could be a meet-up for the weekend after :)

    Remapped the Tiger.
I had a Triumph off-road map on it with a while and was fairly happy with it but at 60-70mph it wasn't as smooth as it should be.

Stuck an Arrow street map on it and seems to have sorted it.

Was getting worried as tuning program kept disconnecting when i was trying to download the new map but switched off my anti-virus and was grand then!

Not work I've done. But I thought this would be a good place to put this..

Damaged screw remover set ~ €5 in Aldi tomorrow (03 July)

First time you use it and [if] it works it'll be a fiver well spent.

I got my bike professionally cleaned with the ACF50 threatment from a local crowd this morning, fantasic job, looks better than it did when it was new.

Unfortunately they also re-enforced my trust issues with motorcycle industry service providers by ragging it up and down a road at 2 and a half times the speed limit at 8 o'clock this morning !!! Aren't GPS trackers great !!

It's a Scorpio Ridecore, I got it from the states about 18 months ago, fairly accurate but expensive, has an alarm and proximity sensor as well.

Haven't decided if I'm going to take it further yet, needless to say I didn't pay and he didn't ask.
