Source input button has stopped working on my monitor.. Anything I can do?

I have one of the Korean 1440p monitor from eBay (XStar specifically)

Replacing the controller PCB probably isnt practical so I'd get a HDMI switcher and patch through that.

This is what I was hoping to avoid :pac: Was a pain in the hole to replace the main board when it stopped working.. the input PCB might not be so bad though..

I have one of these cheap and cheerful hdmi switchers since December and its working perfectly, it autodetects and switches when you turn on a hdmi device...

I find its a handy one for having on top of a desk, get the cheapest version as the more expensive ones are the exact same as it.

Not talking about the belkin one btw.

How much could 3 second-hand Cisco 2901's sell for?

Anyone? I see on ebay they sell for quite a lot, but that's with a license.

Anyone looking for a good bargain? This guy will give you a heap of broken laptops, a broken desktop, a first gen ps3 with no controllers, an old working laptop, and a drill set for your 980Ti.

Act quick lads because this offer won't last long.

Sometimes I feel like a little kid when I see the words "Parcel Motel" appear on my phone. Shame I have to wait ~10 days for the rest of the bits.

All the recent threads and talk about monitors has me hankering for an upgrade. It would mainly be for productivity as opposed to gaming, thinking either 2560 x 1440 27" or a 3440 x 1440 34".

Just wondering if any body could provide any feedback on these, especially if ye have used both? The extra real estate of the ultra wide worth the premium? Can you drive the ultra wide over HDMI on Intel laptop graphics, even with reduced refresh rate?
    Any other considerations?

I do a fair bit if GIS, Mapping and a bit if CAD work, along with a lot if large excel sheets, being able to see more rows and columns at the same time actually makes quite the difference! Lots if data processing and calcs.

I do game a bit, not that much anymore though. Would anything be playable with a hd7970 on mediumish settings?

Right, just bit the bullet on this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A3VA9NI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cant find any reviews etc. for it, hoping it will be alright as i said, its mainly for productivity. Though hoping ill still be able to play the odd non taxing game on it with the hd7970, mark of the ninja, rocket league, pong etc.!

Edit: Cant wait to try Euro Truck, even with the settings turn down, if needs be

Im thinking of getting a Acer Predator X34A.

Anyone have this monitor and share their experience?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Haven't you tried a few ultrawides already (or was that someone else?), and wasn't the experience overall pretty crappy in terms of QA?

Wet wipes from lidl and a microfibre cloth. Rub the screen down with the wet wipe, remove the moisture and dirt with the cloth until dry. Repeat if you missed a spot.

IIRC poor headshot had 3x and RMA'd each in turn but the new toy addiction is strong in this one :D

I had 3x RMA but I finally settled on a LG 34UC97 which has been great but I want Gsync and 100hz

I'm very happy to (finally) seem some innovation in monitors besides pixel racing and size increasing, but given all the quality issues, and the pricing (often €1K+), I think at this point I'm just going to wait the year or two and get an OLED panel. :P

At a guess, there might be some coatings which will dissolve from ethanol.

Old PC has an I7 3770 3.4ghz with DDR3 798 mhz ram in it.

For Accounts, Photo Editing and Storage would there be a benefit going to I7 6700 over an I5 6600 with 2133 RAM ?

i7 = more logical cores (HyperThreading) so yes, it would be faster than i5-6600.

I don't think you'd see much improvement from i7-3770 => i5-6600, in fact might be a decrease in performance for multi-threaded applications.

I figured that bit, but would it be a noticeable increase, worth the extra £150 odd ?

I believe he said it would be a decrease costing you 150 euro.

Would I be better off then going for an I7 then as an upgrade ?

The old PC is an Fujitsu with no room to expand.
The new build needs RAID, 2*2/3tb drives and will have an SSD for the OS and programs.

I figured the newer skylake I5 would be close to the old I7 for performance ? Esp with the newer ram etc ?

That bit wasn't there originally, it was edited in after Will replied.

RAM has been making very little difference of ages, in fact it's only really recently RAM has made any difference and it's still marginal at best.

You'd be better off saving your money tbh, no noticable difference there at all I would imagine. None of those tasks are particularly intensive, in that an i7 is already overkill.
