If it was not a gay nightclub, would the media be referring to it as a straight nightclub ?

Well in Sharia law, homosexuals should be put to death, and the suggestions the shooter is an extremist Muslim (still not confirmed) it could be one reason why a gay nightclub was attacked.

    That logic is just wrong.

The homicide rate in florida is 5.8/100000 in Florida for 2014.
    http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state

Where as Australia which has a population of similar size to Florida state has a homicide rate of 1/100000.
    http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/VC.IHR.PSRC.P5

I don't know what it is about America but its gun crime rates are crazy. Canada has similar gun laws but Canada doesn't have gun crime at the same rate that America has it.

Is there a reason why America would have mental health problems more than other countries? or is it that their gun laws are bs?

I suppose in the coming days we will have calls for measures to try to keep guns out of the hands of crazies like this guy to be interpreted by the NRA as the beginning of an effort to take all their guns and they will lobby accordingly.

No, let's move on to less inane observations shall we?

    Actually....

Noticed there were texts being sent to a mother and the woman's son told her he was hiding in the Women's toilets and I was thinking how backwards for a GBLT venue.... Women's toilets!! Huh!

Two shootings in Orlando during the weekend :(

I was so sad yesterday with the murder of Christina Grimmie. Saw it yesterday morning trending top of Twitter, looked her up, saw what a great talent she was, read how she was murdered and it was depressing to see how an innocent life was taken just because the shooter could do it.
    Now again today.

Now saying around 20 people dead.
    42 injured.

    Suggestions the person is Muslim.

Politicians might think something has to be done if that's the case. Usually it's just a small price to pay for freedom.

It's gone from neo-nazi sympathiser to Islamist leaning re-the killer in reports.

There are not a lot of gay bars in comparison to the number of straight bars there. If a gay bar is attacked theres a strong chance that is the reason why it was attacked

If nothing was changed after children were shot dead at school then nothing is ever going to change.

    RIP to all those killed.
    Absolutely horrific situation.

These mass shootings in the US and elsewhere are ultimately unhinged scumbags taking out their various angst issues on large numbers of innocent people with heavy weapons. Whatever their motivations are, it's always the same back story ; taking their anger out on random people to get attention. Angst ridden highschool shooters, Islamic extremists from the banlieues of Paris and Brussels or wherever or xenophobic pricks... all the same bloody minded mentality.

I don't actually think the way the media will now start looking at his pathological psychology and motivation helps much either. If anything it's just giving more scumbags the same notions and gives tgivesome twisted idea that they can be notorious.

They need to focus on the victims and the humanity of what happened and just let the shooter rot in the shadows of obscurity.

Are the cops leaning towards Islamic attack?

Meanwhile Charlie Flanagan & Richard Crowley are outbidding each other on Radio 1 with virtue signalling concern for the Halawa Muslim brotherhood terrorist in Egypt

Why hasn't anyone with access to the airwaves called these spoofers out?

If you mean his last sentence, it sounds like it would be at the expense of freedom.

I think Hillary Clinton is still in bed. Her Twitter account is just of attacks on Trump.
Nothing about the disaster for so many families in Orlando.

Her attempt to express concern will give insight into her instability and lack of compass

So it's come down to a battle of who gets a tweet out first?

What is your views on Clinton? I feel like you are on the fence about it. It's not like anything either of them say will actually matter or help those who have been killed. I understand it is like a tick to have a have a go at Clinton but maybe there's a time and place for it.

Afraid there might be consequences, which would be cowardly.
Maybe they think it might end up as #JeSuisRTE...

Donald Trumps message is hardly flowing with sympathy, reads more like a sky news update.

It's Twitter FFS. Maybe she's actually more concerned with actually doing something sensible than having stupid online fights with a loudmouth?

Political point scoring on something like this is pretty low.

I feel Hillary is weak on terrorism, doesn't help that one of her closest advisors has strong links to the Muslim Brotherhood, which many countries have outlawed as a terrorist organisation, something Hillary failed to do as Secretary of State.
She would rather argue that Trump is a racist, rather than look at things like San Bernardino and not see how the US has a fundamentalist Islamic problem, we don't know yet in regards to Orlando.

Unless the shooter is a white male and for bonus points a Christian.

Sky News seem to have taken the weekend off from covering news. All they have is a birthday for one of the royal family

She actually tried to start an online fight with Trump last week, when she tweeted to him "Delete your account".
The head of GOP replied to Hillary saying she knew all about deleting things.

That's fairly regular in the USA though.
Cinema shooting, most school shootings etc etc etc

Anyway, I'm not really interested in being embroiled in toxic American presidential politics debate.

A load of people having a night out have just been mowed down.

The US has a lot of problems, a girl was shot in the head about 2 days ago. Shootings in America have no problem taking place with or without terrorism. Neither Clinton or Trump will stop people being killed.

You're FAR more likely to get hit in the crossfire of some shootout in the US or in an armed regular crime incident than you're ever going to be at risk of terrorism.

Yet people are mostly afraid of terrorism and think guns are great.

    American paradoxes...

There has been talk of Hillary not being up to the job and she needs her sleep. She complains about not getting enough sleep, so she is probably asleep...

More guns would have stopped this, If everyone was armed this would never of happened....

Have the neo-Nazi's a reputation for targeting homosexuals? I would not have thought so. They were/are more preoccupied about the next race war.
Islamists on the other hand have made no bones about their contempt for homosexuals, so when I first heard the news it was either lone gun nutter or Islamists. Seems to be the latter at this early stage according to the BBC.
