Mass shooting in Orlando Nightclub

Police in Orlando have reported "multiple injuries" following a shooting at a nightclub in the city.

The shooting occurred at the Pulse nightclub, which urged patrons in a post on its Facebook page to "get out" and "keep running."

Police in Orlando said via Twitter that there are "multiple injuries" and have warned people to stay away from the area.

"There are injuries. I am not sure if there are any deceased at this time," a police dispatcher told AFP.

Police described the situation as an "active shooting"

"Officers are going in to search the building and to get people out," the dispatcher said.

On its Twitter page, Pulse describes itself as Orlando's premiere gay ultra lounge, nightclub and bar.

Local media reported that a number of people, ranging from seven to as many as 20, had been shot.

Several people posted on social media that a gunman was still inside the club and was holding hostages.

Over 20 people shot and hostages taken according to reports on twitter. The nightclub is a gay club and it's pride weekend so may be anti gay extremists behind the attack.

    Horrible situation.

Jesus I just turned on the TV to see that a gunman has barricaded himself into a gay club in Orlando and has shot up to 20 people. What in the name of God is going on in that society whereupon this sort of thing is a regular occurrence? It can't be just the availability of guns, a gun is simply an inanimate object. There's a thread in the fabric of American society that seems to lend itself readily to this sort of violent outburst. I can't for the life of me understand it.

    1. Availability of guns
    2. Mental Health issues
    3. "Gay Hate"
    4. Doing "Gods" work

There's an infinite amount of reasons. None of which justify the shooters motives and actions. Fcuking asshole

Hope it is ended soon, but,
Staff at the venue posted on Facebook: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running”.

Seems like staff really need to get their priorities straight.

Orlando Fire & Police radio feeds, for anyone interested.

Why? Fair play to them for posting that.

I'm not pro guns, but tbf there's like 300 million people in the US, so, ya know, it's all relative.

More gunfire reported. One cop down.

Reuters saying at least 10 dead and shooter/shooters still inside venue with hostages. If this is Islamic terrorism Clinton can forget about the white house.

Would doubt it is terrorism tbh.

Edit, just reading through the article, controlled explosives, hostages.

I wanna change my doubt to hope it isn't.

Whos on facebook while they're in a nightclub? and of those who are, how many stay on when some lad is shooting everyone around them?

    Reports are saying two shooters.

Sounds like they could be about to make a move on the club.

    Once more, radio broadcast here.

    Two more trauma alerts?

OFD reporting that the area is not secure.

Someone unconscious in a grey vehicle near there.

Someone switched on enough to get accurate intel about the situation to the outside world.

Some would class that as questionable, I would class it as valuable.

They are now an asset instead of simply a victim.

Orlando have had two bad days in a row.

Christina Grimmie, a 22 year old singer who was a YouTube sensation and who also was on the US The Voice was murdered yesterday in Orlando.
She was after doing a concert and was outside the venue signing autographs when this 27 year old random man came and shot her in the head and killed her.
He then shot himself in the head, which I wish he had done before doing it to anyone else...

This current event is either domestic terrorism and just another event in a long line of shooting sprees.
It may be linked to Islamic terrorism but at this stage I doubt it.

But who was it trying to alert? Anybody inside would know about it and would run out.

But it assumes that all of these people are checking the Facebook page. Or are on Facebook at the moment.

OFD ordered to move back 1000feet. Crisis negotiator on site. Still talking about unconscious person.

Mother received text from son in nightclub saying 'he's rounded us up and he's going to kill us'.

    Jesus.

Whether it's ISIS or some Florida locals, a hostage situation is terrorism by definition.

But who was it trying to alert? Anybody inside would know about it and would run out.

    Is that a serious question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

The gun/guns used were not handguns as whatever type of guns they had fired bullets repeatedly.

Orlando police say it is a mass casualty situation.

If you're in a nightclub where people are being shot around you long enough to check facebook instead of getting the fook out, chances are you're very much a victim.

Not sure if situation is yet under control as only one shooter is dead and reports of more than one shooter.

I don't know about Ireland. But here in the US it's quite common for Facebook alerts about pages you're subscribed to to pop up. I've been out with friends and they get a push notification from the bar we're in about a new beer just put on tap or some promo for the next 30 mins. So people could of had something pop up on their phone about a shooting happening.

One witness says it was automatic gunfire and it lasted the length of a song.

Are people suprised by this? You have a presidential candidate preaching nothing but hatred for minorities and leading the republican nomination ... america is so desensitised to this ****e you'll get the "if only the people in the club had been armes" bull coming out soon

Hold on now bogman, don't be dismissing me with weak qualifier because you are not in agreement.

A simple FB post like that would:

    1. Warn others who are on the way or intend on going to the club to stay away. This may well reduce the direct or vicinity casualty count.

    2. People in the Club who in the unlikely event have no idea what is happenning, *may* get a FB alert on their phone and get then out of there.

    3. Confirm to State authorities and emergency agencies that there is an incident at the Club.

    4. Warn other businesses in the area of the incident.

Social media is heavily monitored by some security and emergency services.

Sometimes, for small scale, isolated incidents such as this, social media is the one that alerts these assets before a phonecall.

It's more important than you comprehend but im not looking for an argument or debate on the matter as there is none.

Im right and thats all there is to it.

The Columbine massacre happened during a Clinton presidency.
