Never hear of gun crime like this from India or China.

Never hear about gun crime like this from Austria or Switzerland either where gun ownership is really high.

I know situations like this can be emotional but if someone texts you telling you they are hiding in a bathroom and there is a lot of shooting going on, don't try ring them.

Jesus Christ, this is horrible. If it is Islamic related it would definitely play into Trumps hand, but realistically with gun control in America it could easily be any two nutjob sad opposed to organised terrorists, though the way this has gone down certainly doesn't paint it that way.

And absolutely don't go to the news with the texts.

It would be ironic if it was IS related ... US have been continually warning France of an imminent attack at the Euros,it they struck on american soil.

But IS or local nutters ... yet another sad day for innocent people

Well i guess that joker trump popped into few peoples heads, with such events, yet hes delusional since as he said his no1 priority will be guns for all no gun free zones, then he compares Europe's people not having arms to defend themselves, yet add all stats of mass shootings from all US states over the year and it wont come close to any terrorist attack that happens here,in number of casualties per day being killed by nuts over their own messed up beliefs.

Why would it be ironic? Its not as if France are completely oblivious, like the country is still in a state of emergency and thousands of soldiers have been deployed around paris and lyon in anticipation of the euros. There has been so many preparations made for terror attacks at the euros, I don't think whatever USA had to say on the matter really swayed them one way or another. france were preparing for this no matter what

Shooter had an assault rifle and a hand gun as well as a device according to police.
    No numbers on casualties.

Shootout started at 0200hrs with officer working at the club. Suspect fled inside, taking hostages. At 0500 SWAT moved in to rescue hostages killing suspect in process. Suspect confirmed to have "device" on person along with handgun and assault rifle. EOD (bomb squad) still working scene to clear / disarm device.

FBI investigating as an act of terrorism.

One police officer says it is a domestic terrorist incident, another was not so sure if domestic or something even more sinister.

These stories in the USA are getting like the "suicide bomber kills 10 in Fallujah" stories. Its be becoming so frequent thats its not even shocking any more.

Act of terror according to Orlando police department. Multiple people dead. Situation went on for three hours before police moved in.

Now saying around 20 people dead.
    42 injured.

    Suggestions the person is Muslim.

Would be good timing for Trumps campaign if true

Police say man is not from this area. Must of been carnage in that club.

I'm not pro guns, but tbf there's like 300 million people in the US, so, ya know, it's all relative.

    That logic is just wrong.

The homicide rate in florida is 5.8/100000 in Florida for 2014.
    http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state

Where as Australia which has a population of similar size to Florida state has a homicide rate of 1/100000.
    http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/VC.IHR.PSRC.P5

I don't know what it is about America but its gun crime rates are crazy. Canada has similar gun laws but Canada doesn't have gun crime at the same rate that America has it.

Is there a reason why America would have mental health problems more than other countries? or is it that their gun laws are bs?

The irony would be in the preaching to other counrties to be on alert only to get struck on you own soil. The irony isnt in the fact the warned france, its the fact that IF this is IS they werent able to prevent it on their own soil.

If this has anything to do with Islam, Donald Trump will have a field day (and most likely lead to him being president). If not then Hillary Clinton will be the one having a field day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,782 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

The shooter was not a local.

It could end up as the worst mass shooting in US history according to CNN.

If it was not a gay nightclub, would the media be referring to it as a straight nightclub ?

No, let's move on to less inane observations shall we?

They advertise themselves as a gay bar, do non gay bars usually advertise themselves as straight bars?

    Ridiculous and pointless question.

I think the reason why the media is referring to it as a gay nightclub is because that could be one of the reasons it was targeted.

Because it's plausible that it being a gay club was a motivator for the shooters to pick it. ie. this was a homophobic attack. Not really the time to be desperate to be offended.
