One of the presenters of Bosco, although I doubt anyone even remembers who any of them were.

When I said my wife is related to Billy Idol, I should have added that about half the parish here is. It's all some 3rd or 4th cousin thing, his father was from Ireland.

She is also some distant relation of Gene Kelly. But that's like generations out.

Edit - she's just told me it's actually Billy Idol's mum is the connection. I've been labouring under a misunderstanding all these years.

Direct decedent of the last High King of Ireland Rory_O'Connor.
A few years ago, a (respected) historian wrote to us, claiming we were the great-grandchildren of Rory O'Connor, based on accounts in the Irish Military Archive.

Our Granny had hosted O'Connor & republican comerades in her home when he was on the run, at a time when our grandmother was married to a philandering, violent British soldier. She named her son Rory Conor _____ as a tribute to the man, hence the gossip.

Is it true? I doubt it. I believe Rory O'Connor was a homosexual. It makes for interesting gossip, though.

That's an awful thing to say about your relatives..oh 'twins' I thought you said something else.

Nope nobody famous in my family. My mum was in a taxi once in Dublin and it turned out the taxi driver was Robbie Keanes brother. I suppose that doesn't qualify, no probably not.

I remember Podge & Rodge interviewing Donna & Joe once. Podge said to Donna that he was glad she had come out as being a lesbian ................ because 'at least now we all know you're not ridin' your brother'

My mum's cousin is Gerry "scored for Norn Iron in a World Cup" Armstrong. I met him a few times and know his ma quite well. Lovely family.

Also Ex-Arsehol....ooops Arsenal footballer Martin Keown's grandmother and my great-grandmother were sisters I think. Something like that or it may be his great-grandmother too, not sure, but there is defo a link there, again on my mother's side.

One of my cousins from my dad's family is fairly well known in Hollywood. Her and her husband own a SFX company. She created the spinning bullets effect in the Matrix and did all the Harry Potter stuff too. She also won an Oscar for her work on the Robin Williams movie "What Dreams May Come" with the company. Her hubby has now moved into a bit of production work too and was named on the Ant-Man posters as head of effects or some such. Pretty cool. I asked her what it was like working on the matrix and she told me that she had to spend hours staring at Keanu Reeves butt to try remove a wedgie. She got paid to look at Keanu's ass. I was never so jealous of anyone in all my life.

My older brother was an extra in King Arthur, my younger brother is named in the credits in the movie Shrooms for some work he did on it and my dad's band were very successful back in the showband days of the 60s and 70s. George Best hit on my mum in a niteclub in Manchester and she turned him down.

And I am the first female in history to do live commentary on a football match in Ireland.

No pressure on my youngest son to be a famous actor or musician though.......:D

Because of this thread, I looked up one of my famous relatives. I found him on a new genealogical site that is subscribed to by the wife of a first cousin once removed in my mother's side, who is heavily into genealogy. I was able to fill in a lot of gaps for her and she was able to fill me in on some of the family history I did not know (like the fact that my grandmother and her famous brother were two of eight children!). Interestingly, my cousin's wife comes from the same part of the same country as my father, and we think there is a relationship on that side as well. Small world!

Grace Kelly, apparently. Although that was uncovered by a distant American relative who traced our mutual family tree and I suspect there may have been a degree of reverse engineering involved :D

But I am related to the late, great Mick Lally. Well Holy God!
