How about a list of places (online or otherwise) where vitamins and supplements can be bought?

I personally only know of the various Nature's Way shops around Dublin - they tend to be a bit pricy though.

Aye something I was thinking of alright.

I'm a little busy this week, but will sticky this as per the other thread on fitness links, add to it when i get a chance to look about and then tidy up the thread and lock and stick it.

    Cheers,

    JAK

For obvious reasons I get pretty much all my supplements and training stuff through my brother's company. Ireland/UK based and without bias a lot cheaper than the Irish highstreet stores.

For all the bog standard stuff, boots is not the worst. Also Holland and Barrett..especially their sales :)

What does everyone think of Tony Quinn Health Shop?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 545 ✭✭✭alienhead

I buy my protein off TMOF, good value.

i get my vitamines in bulk from the states, much better value than buying here, just got 250 b complex caps for around 17 euro, i'd say with packaging it works out about 25 euro.

The best and cheapest place to buy vitamins is ZipVit. They are the cheapest and supply everything you could think of. I've bought loads off them and they have free shipping over £25 and shipping under that is only around £2. You can't go wrong.

Fitness Ireland are a new Irish website selling Supplements online. www.fitnessireland.ie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 545 ✭✭✭alienhead

why pay 60.20euro for 5lb of whey protein when you can get it at TMOF for 29.99 sterling (45.00 euro) ?

where's the nutritional information as well? how much protein is in those bars?

i'd stick to either the us, or the uk for supliments, as usual ireland is a rip off!

    http://www.tmof.co.uk

what can i say, best value protein i've found.

I've ordered from the a couple of times, and while they haven't been incredibly speedy, they have always delivered in the end.

Ordered Whey Trail Pack from TMOF.com Friday, and it was delivered on Tuesday. Brilliant service, fast delivery and nice correspondence.

Haven't tried any other dealers, so I can't compare.

    Tony Quinn!
Was talking to a fella about him on Friday night, his opinion was that any shop that stocks food supplements that also give you a tan can't be trusted :)

i was looking at WWW.TMOF.COM but i dont know what exactly i need?

Ireland is disgraceful for buying supplements and the UK isn't much better unless you use an internet supplier.

Anyway there are sites that sell protein far cheaper than TMOF - £50 for 10lbs of whey at www.sports-nutrition.co.uk

If you ask me though, while the exchange rate with the euro against the dollar is like it is at the moment buy from the US. Optimum whey is only $13.99/kg from www.bodybuilding.com and if you buy in bulk the extra 30% we get due to the exchange rate all but nullifies the delivery cost.

If anyone has any questions about supp stuff pm me I've been lifting for some time now and am in a good position to advise you on any supplements.

most of the replies in this thread seem to be more about protein supplements than vits and minerals. Do you think it would be better to split this thread to talk about the 2 seperatly????

Good Point! Although I think it's easier to buy vits/minerals in your local health store as they need to be replaced frequently as the price discrepancis aren't as great due to the larger market.

If it matters, here's a list of supps I'll take in conjunction with protein to help with recovery and dietary deficiencies (I hate fish and vegetables).

    Centrum - multi vit
    Vits - C, D, E, B complex
    Glucosamine & Chondroitin
    Chromium Picolinate
    Dessicated Liver
    Zinc

If I've enough money I'll get ZMA instead of zinc and also take another suplement to complement the picolinate in speeding up my metabolism.

Finally, as a drug tested athlete, I think these supplements are necessary for recovery if your diet isn't perfect as joints wear very easily without drug enhancement. Hope this helps!

Bulk Nutrition is the best site I've found for relatively smaller (i.e. less than 5lb protein tubs) items.

For protein, etc iTrance run some excellent specials from time to time and offer free delivery to Ireland.

Anyone any thoughts on the Lidl and Aldi vitamins, are they good quality?

Been a while since I've posted! I got fed up with the supplement situation in Ireland so I decided to just import it in bulk and sell it on at feck all profit. I'm selling ON (Optimum Nutrition) whey protein in 5lbs and 2 lbs tubs in choc, choc mint, strawberry and vanilla. 5lbs is E40 and 2lbs is E25. PM me if you want some I'm in Bray and would deliver to most of Wicklow and South Dublin. If yo're elsewhere I could see bout post...

Sorry if it seems like flagrant promotion but I'm not doing this for a living just to get by while I'm in college so I can afford to sell it cheap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,952 ✭✭✭✭Stoner

thanks for the info easygainer, I think you better edit the text though as you might be banned for selling etc, stick it up in the for sale section, although tech you prob shouldn't there either as its commercial

I can't see an option to edit it, let me know how if you can - normally on vbulletins there's an edit button on the box for the post!

I know gainer, I dont know why sometimes you have the edit option and sometimes you dont, happened to me before, there is a simple answer to it that i dont have, sorry

Has anyone else has problems using phoenixathletic.com to purchase any products? I purchased a product on 20th of Jan last month, never got any email to inform on status of order and have yet to receive the product.
But they where quick to debit my credit card account four days later.

Sent them some emails but nothing back, tried calling them but no telephone number in Newbridge. Poor customer support.

Sorry I used them now, they seem to be a complete waste of time.
Going to contact my credit card company to try and get a refund.
    Won't be using again.

this site has been out for months with a letter from the president of the website. there is obviously a major problem. i am inclined not to believe the reasons in the letter.

Phoenix athletic: i did get what what i ordered. they are, however, way too expensive and more importantly the order took forever. 5 bloody weeks. and it was a small/light order. and they didnt answer my persistant emails.
also they have no selection on good/value brands.

Thats good but 2lb is 908grams. 25euro thats 27.50euros for 1kg. my mate sells pure whey protein concentrate for 25euros/kg or 5kg kg for 110euros. thats even better. i get all my vitamins/fishoils/etc off holland and barrett sales or off bodybuilding.com. but beware there is a lot of new legislation in ireland not allowing many of these supplements through customs. Not just prohormones. since january of this year things like tribulis terrestis herbs and many others wont go. Also a lot of delays with this new legislation.

Tell me about it, got package sent from Bodybuilding.com, 4 days to get from Idaho to Dublin :D, then seven days sitting in Customs for clearing.
On the plus side it sure is a whole pile cheaper to buy your potions and lotions esp if your buying for 2 or 3 or....

Yeah I hate that customs bull! I had clothes coming from the States a while ago and it took less than a week to get to Ireland and THREE weeks in GLS - I rand everyday and freaked and sent emails - the customer service was atrocious... buy irish!

I am goin to gym 4 times a week, 3 times doin weights and small bit cardio and once doin a lot of cardio. I have started to take a Tony Quinn <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=22&amp;k=casein protein&quot; onmouseover="window.status='casein protein'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">casein protein</a> supplement and hav noticed a difference in strength and fat loss. Is that just because of working out cos some of the posts here don't think Tony Quinn supplements are any good. Should i keep going as I am or change suplements? I wanna tone up and add some muscle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 592 ✭✭✭poobum

majority of supplements are realy the same(basically but not exactly) main problem with tony quinn is that they seriously overcharge! but remmber its not what supplement you take its the work you put in! supplement only build on the work youve put in! and if youve put no work in you will get no return! most people take them becausethey wouldnt at enough protein in the day or at the wrong tims! if you ate a few cans of tuna a day st the right tims there would realy be no need to take protein supplements for example! loads more people take them because they are very misinformed and think that these things just naturally put on muscle for you with no work and do this and end up wasting a lot of money for no return

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭kwinabeeste

cheers! The protein from Tony Quinn is under €40...I thought some of the other stuff was more expensive?

when is the right time to take it? At mo on advice on the guy in Tony Quinn was in morn and after gym. I go after work so prob every 12 hours? is that right or should i take it more often?

40euro but for how much? within 40 mins after training and either morning or just before you sleep(iv hard both not sure which is best id advise before you sleep do) but if you take it before you sleep its best to take casein protein whereas during the day after your gym its best to take why protein! this is what my protein thingy says anyway plase correct me somebody if im wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭kwinabeeste

It lasts about 2 weeks...90g a shake twice a day.

Yeah I read that before I bought that whey is a quicker release than casein and that casein is a slower release but the guy in Tony Quinn said that casein in the morn is pretty much the same at nite time.

The "research" on the tub said that casein is more effective than whey for fat loss and increased strength. Thats why I'm on here just wanna see what other people are taking cos my mates think I'm taking steroids or something!!

Gimme a pm I´ll let you know best places to get what you want and for what ya need - gotta rush now, in lanzarote - laters!

tony quinn- slick oil salesman. can't be trusted. i'd love to get his powder analysed to see what's actually in them.
fitnessireland.ie - O.k but too expensive for my tastes.

Personally i get all my stuff from the states at www.bodybuilding.com even after shipping they still work out way cheaper than any irish prices and they have the biggest range of supplement i have ever seen. shipping usually take 7 - 14 days.

Not anymore! Maybe when it was 1:1.33 with the dollar but when you take customs and shipping into account with the weakening euro you've to shop local ;)
