and who should play the lead?
    well?
i think half-life. the plot alone was just enough for it to be made into a film.
the guy who played dr. green in E.R should play gordon freeman methinks
    :)

    toodles

Huh? Do you mean E.R. ??

I'd like to see Deus Ex or System Shock. System Shock is a bit of a one man show, so it'll never be made, but Deux Ex is do-able.

If they got it right Deus Ex could be fantastic, but there has never been a good game to film(final fantasy was good though, not great) so i wouldnt hold my breath.

David Cross (the comedian) is the spitting image of Gordon Freeman .... that'd be fun. :)

i think the plot is a little too cliche. its been done to pieces. the amnesiac who saves the world, think steven segal, chuck norris or other d-list action heros.

true, don't be dissning segal tho:mad:
    he's still c list.

    make GTA into a film.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

i could be wrong, but apparently gta has already been made into a (crap) movie.

You would have to make a distinction between a film with the characters and a mildly related, mostly new plot or a Film following the Game Plot Exactly.

Half-Life Would Not be suitable for the latter cause it has very little plot when you look at it compared to other games, you would need a lot of new stuff and it would probably
be over-queered by some script writer.

Resident Evil comes to mind, I mean were they all Drunk or Stoned when the wrote the script?

Deus Ex would be a great game for a film, its got a great story that would need very little modification and would appeal to those who liked the matrix (nano-augs, run fast, ballistic protection etc)

I think i heard Die Another Day has nano-aug stuff in it.
final fantasy was good though, not great

Final Fantasy was not a game-to-film, more of a Brand Name I think. I heard square pictures was making another.

Shenmue was made into a 90min film rendered on dreamcast hardware, apparently it was good

square definitly are not going to be making another final fantasy film. it nearly bankrupted them. and they shut down the studio in hawaii that it was animated in.

I knew about all that but I heard recently they were going to have another go at it after the relatively poor success of the first.

Considering some of the stinkers they have made already, none would be the best answer.

Now that I thing about it the story of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997) is alot like Simon The Sorcerer (1993), Both have a normal child who both become wizards, very strange?

but simon the sorcerer has nothing about parents getting murdered by evil wizards, or kids going to live with large hairy men with a possible unhealty fascination with children and harry potter does not have the voice of arnold j. rimmer in it.

yea just saying that the start of both stories are the same, which is strange

    Half-Life

    Directed by tarantino.

    Think of the possibilites.

Tarantino using his story telling techinques to combine HL, OF and BS in an epic movie to rival LOTR

    Clive Barker's Undying.
Although, I think that might already be in production.

Alice is currently being made into a film, I hear Wes Craven is involved.
I dont hold much cop for that though.

Edit: Yep, I was right: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0270909

It would have to be metal gear solid. If they used the original storyline that is.

    Starcraft?

    Arnie could do Doom lol

MGS maybe, although it would be very James Bond esque (without the women)

Mafia, Planetscape Torment, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Final Fantasy 7, although they kind of did this one with the FF Movie what with Planet Life Forces and what not. I'd still like to see FF7 the movie.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,388 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I'd rather see FF7 the mini series since a film would be far to short for FF7 epic story. Don't think most ignorant twats that inhabit this world would get it though. It's their loss. And yours Praetorian. Youre missing out if you don't play this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

AvP - being made into one by Fox atm isn't it?

Cannon Fodder tbh tbh, with full on gore and pop-guns. And Skidoos.

    Elite.

    Half-Life would kick arse tbh.

    Mechwarrior saga.

Big Fúck-off Whirr-Whirr-Stomp-Stomp mechs rampaging through villages crushing pe0ns beneath their 2 tonne feet while dodging hurtling volleys of LRMs and casting searing beams of parallel light into the cockpit of that wánker that just shot out your left arm with the Gauss cannon on it......

max payne could be good, or maybe silent hill...

oh yeah, i reckon the plot (?) of gta3 is pretty close to that of payback.

metal gear solid would be a class movie...kinda like a darker james bond....I think grand theft auto or return to castle wolfenstein would'nt be half bad either

In February we had rumors going on about a GTA movie. Well now Rockstar have confirmed they are interested in making a GTA movie, but they're not looking for the blockbuster.

Apparently Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games, has been going around and trying to get people interested in making a GTA movie for 5 years. Noone even blinked. Then after GTA3, producers started calling in, wanting to make one, and discussing ideas.

Rockstar knew that if they wanted to make a movie it would be more of a personal movie, with their touch. They clearly knew that they don't want to have a blockbuster. In their own words: "A bad movie, a commercial movie, would damage our game".

So for now there is no GTA movie, but if there ever will be (and if the GTA series will stay popular), you can expect something cool. Something original. A "landslide approach".

i'd buy that for a dollar

They is already making a Deus Ex movie. :) Mafia? C'mon! How many gangster films do we have already? System Shock 2? Agree completely.

Can't believe nobody mentioned DUKE NUKEM!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

Because it should have been made 10 years ago when arnie wasn't a geriatric.

And it would still be shít.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭GiMiC

I remember hearing about a year ago that there was some talk of making Duke Nukem into a movie, with The Rock as the lead. IMHO it could have possibly worked. The target audience for a film like that would be the same sort of people who enjoy Arnie movies (like me ;-) ), so a decent plot wouldn't be required.

I have horrible visions of someone buying a franchise for UT or Quake and making it into some cheesy movie following a young hero's exploits in the Gaming Arenas etc - not good.

All that said, Quake 2 (and the pending Quake 4) have story that could work as a Movie (big scrap against the Strogg), but it's been done before and would probably look pants! :)

Max Pane would work since the game plays like a movie anyway - same applies for GTA (especially GTA3).

What you've got to remember is, most games take their influences from the movies...

Only American games copy movies because American developers have no imagination. Japanese British and French games are usually original with lots of imagination.

Then you have the films that actually copy the games like The Matrix. It will be a bit of a disappointment to see Morpheus doing exactly what MGS's ninja did with the katana in the film. Most people will think it's cool but for me I'd have already seen it before.

yeah, plenty of imagination after a big bucket ful of mushies.
Goes a long way to explaining Pikmin, Choo Choo Rocket and Pokémon tbh.
