ALl of the tony haws games have some great music in them.

I'm gonna exclude tracks that were done by mainstream artists and then licensed for games (a la Tony Hawks and Gran Turismo) for this one... which means I'll have to go for anything from the Final Fantasy series really, spine chilling stuff all round there. If I had to pick one track I'd go for "One Winged Angel", the final battle music from FFVII. The MGS soundtrack was excellent as well actually... Psycho Mantis' mind reading music and the background music to Rex's layer etc - VERY atmospheric stuff.

Chrono Cross, sheer class with Xenogears and Final Fantasy 7 a close second.

Dragons Breath on the amiga has an amazing background tune.

On the pc the best music has to be Hong Kong Streets from Deus Ex

/me digs out chrono cross sound track :)

Mostly agreeing with DiscoStu here... "Time's Scar", the Chrono Cross theme music, is superb, and FF7 has a whole range of excellent music. "Liberi Fatali" off the front of FF8 isn't half bad either, and Eyes on Me is a really nice song - as, indeed, is FFX's Suteki Da Ne.

I quite like the Hikaru Utada track on the front of Kingdom Hearts at the moment, its very upbeat and reminds me a bit of Ayumi Hamasaki - rest of the music is quite unremarkable though.

Chrono Chross' soundtrack is very nice, I must admit, but they do the celtic theme throughout...some diversity would be nice.

Final Fantasy OSTs (FFIX's in particular) win across the board.

Another soundtrack worthy of mentioning, and one of the few FPSes where you can leave the bloody music on, System Shock 2's pumping, techno beats had me gunning down The Many's Minions in rhythm. ;)

Tony Hawk's games were 50/50..get rid of all the bloody hip-hip/rap ****e!

Now where'd I leave that Doom Midi...

Zophar.net have tons of music ripped from snes roms and an application you can use to listen to them through winamp.

I love Squaersofts soundtracks. At the top would be Chrono Trigger and FF7.

A worthy mention goes to Rocket Knight Adventures.

FF series all the way baby... but i agree that Quake 2 should be given an honourable mention.

Quake 2's music sounded like it was done by a head banging monkey with a synthesiser. Instead of atmosphere we got ear melting noise.
Half-life and MOH. Now thats how you do a fps soundtrack. The beach landing was great. No soundtrack required just a brilliant use of sound.

mohaa, great msic in that. its sounds a lot like john williams

I loved the music in the Amiga version of Turrican II particularly World 2 round 3 "Metal Stars"
The Last Ninja remix (Cart Version for C64) from system 3 has an excellent soundtrack

With you on that Turrican thing Logie.

Also liked the loading music (C64) for the original turrican.

    Ditto Myth on the C64.

Also that scene we don't talk about in FF7 on PSX.

Therapy? teethgrinder on Road Rash (PSX) - shame bout the game.

Some of the NIN stuff on Quake 1 (PC also).

Edited in case some of these PEONS haven't played FF7 yet :) -S.

Rock n' Roll Racing on SNES, brilliant midi (or whatever the snes used for sound) recreations of greats such as "Highway Star" by Deep Purple, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, "Bad to the Bone" by i cant remember right now (it was in Terminator 2) and "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, its all pure class

tell me if i forgot one.

also "the grand theft auto song"(dunno what its called) that was in, you guessed it, GTA3 and i think in GTA1 aswell is brilliant (its on the "Lips106" station)

Praetorian must have read my mind.

The Streets of Rage soundtrack kicks butt from start to finish. Me and me mate even made up a dodgy song for the Stage 2 music.

Command & Conquer (original) is also excellent - Fight! Win! Prevail! and Mechanical Man - the only ST I know the names of songs on.

Must give an honourable mention to the title screen of Beast 2 on Amiga, it really is quite classy.
