  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeah 2.0 it is but i can't upgrade!!!!!!

edit: ok i got it.. when i tried to upgrade i just got a blank background screen...i just restored to factory settings and we are in business...phew :p

Would xtra vision accept xbox game trade ins so I can get this cheaply? Or would I have to go into town and Gamestop/Game for that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

its fantastic lads well worth the upgrade and i have the web browser back :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭lardboy

Yup, it's definitely 2.0. Just upgraded (boo!), but I'll be downgrading later.

I've had a quick play and it seems good so far. The screen is a little smeary at night, but overall it's pretty similar. The most annoying thing so far is that you can't swim, so it's game over when you hit the water.

whats the price in most shops? also does anyone know how much i'd get for wipeout as a trade in?

€60. there is no way im paying €60 for a PSP game.

Trade in seems the only way to get it for a decent price.

    Good luck.

Just trade in old PS2 games ;) Get some munnies together and get it.

    can v2.0 be downgraded?

does the gta umd have v2.0 on it?

i've got it but i'm in two minds whether to install v2.0 as i was thinking of going homebrew aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

€54 in Smyths with Loyalty card.

You can downgrade from 2.0 and it is on the GTA umd.

    do smyths take trade ins?

    €54 in Xtra-Vision.

Got it for €55 in Xtravision especially for the train. Couldn't upgrade to 2.0 though because you have to have the PSP plugged in so couldn't play it :(

In work now so haven't played it yet. Thank god for Virtua Tennis on the train!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

em theres a special way to upgrade so u can downgrade again easily.
    google it.

Cheapest place to buy would be Argos, all of €45. Got it in game myself purely because i was trading the massive disapointment that was Burnout.

I ended up tradin in 5 xbox games (some fairly new) and got it for 74 cents! Its good so far but the screen response time is unreal - ghosting everywhere.

Glad it's not just me. It's almost unplayable it's so bad. I guess I'll get used to it, but it's really, really bad. He looks like an octopus when he runs!

I was getting really excited but I don't think I'll buy it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,680 ✭✭✭Skyuser

would you believe the stupid idiot dude only has gone and forgotten how to swim. i went and got drowned. btw got it for 54.99 xtra vision even though they had 50euro sticker on it. but the dummy at the counter wouldn't give it to me for that price.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭Nephew

i played it for a bit earlier and the graphics honestly gave me a headache. its essentially gta3 portable - i never really played gta3 so i decided to buy lcs. i bought san andreas (pc) last month and going from that to lcs feels like a culture shock, causing me to be less impressed. e60 for a psp game, **** off. no wonder there is such a high rate of game piracy.

I'll reverse judgement on GTA until i have gotten into it a bit more, but the hype surrounding some of the PSP's top titles is deffo having a negative effect on the games. I was reading a Playstation mag which classed GTA LCS as the best game of the year across all formats, period. The ghosting issue wasn't even noted in the review. I'm not gonna even mention again what a load of flawed toss burnout was.

€60 lol no thanks, not with this ghosting issue i am reading about

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭Nephew

    could he swim in gta3?

just so no one freaks out. if you are on v1.5, you have to restore the psp to the original factory settings in the system folder, if you dont when you try to upgrade to 2.0 you'll just be presented with a blank screen and the options of x and o.

i got it for 30 by trading in a game. when you consider that its a psp game, a port of a 3 or 4 year old game which can be picked up for e15 now and i bought pes5 for the pc for e30 last week its an absolute disgrace that they have the gall to charge e60 for it.

The ghosting is noticable, but it isn't a problem at all.

I paid £23, so about €33 or so. Good old Tesco with % off offers and vouchers you can exploit...

Just need to a) Get the game (in no rush at that price) and b) decide when to upgrade.

Does anybody know if you can trade in games from another region in shops like Game? I've got Wipeout Pure US version and I'm wondering if they'll take it anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

just upgraded my psp to play this. decent enough. i'll wait until i get into it to make a proper opinion... but it's defo worth upgrading compared to the homebrew scene which is slowly grinding to a halt (emu's just aint the same on psp)

Try selling or trading it on Boards. You'll get more than GAME would give ya.

Yeah I was thinking of eBay too... just more hassle involved selling it online than wandering into a shop I guess heh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭shortys94

i only really get bad ghosting at night in the game, no that noticeable either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭Doodee

the ghosting is bad alright. but the game isn't that bad.
the cutscenes are pretty good, little humour thrown in, and it explains a bit more about GTA3.

I think its good. If the ghosting were to be fixed then the psp is well worth what ya pay for it.

To the people who are complaining about the price of the game (€60), Sony will charge as much as they want, knowing people will pay for it. I too think it's a scandalous price for a portable game, a four year old ported game at that. The only way game pricing will change is if people in droves simply refuse to pay the prices and don't buy the games, like that's going to happen. I myself want Football Manager 2006 for the PC, but absolutely refuse to pay the €60 Gamestop in Carlow want for it... GOOD LUCK

    How can you say that?

The GTA3 game engine and game mechanics/physics have been reused for Vice City, San Andreas and now Liberty City Stories, all Rockstar are doing is making new missions, throwing in a new gun or two, changing the era (80's etc.) and being paid for the same tweaked code again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭Stompbox

Sorry I didn't see the word ported in your original post.

everyone knew lcs was a port before it was out, so there's no point bitching about it now.

as for the other gta games being "ports", the engine is very different in each game, and the cities are entirely different. i see no problem in them tweaking the engine for each game as long as the gameplay works - which it does.

anyway for their ps3 gta game they're making their own engine. if you dislike the renderware engine, wait for that

Isn't renderware a middleware software suite that EA own?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

    Yep, they bought it recently.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭spritey

But it's not a true port is it - a port is just a straight transfer of a game from one platform to another - for example Grandia II from Dreamcast to PC/PS2, and even Skies of Arcadia from Dreamcast to GameCube, though that did have a few bits and pieces added.

Yes, GTA:LCS is in the same city, but everything else about the game is different is it not...? Aside from the basic game mechanics, but come on they can't change that or it's not Grand Theft Auto is it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,653 ✭✭✭steviec

Hmmm I don't understand all the negativity. Especially about price, oh my god its the same price as every other new console game! Who'd have thought! I'd rather spend the money on GTA than anything else released recently.

It's got lots in common with the other GTA games sure, but I don't mind a port when it's a port of one of the best games on home consoles, and it's not like its a true port, it's got a completely new set of missions and stories, and just playing around in the sandbox of Liberty City when you don't have time to do missions is perfectly suited for a portable too.

Ghosting is pretty noticeable though, I'm confused about that because it hasn't seemed bad in any other games, surely its a screen thing and should be independent of the game but I dunno. It's mostly noticeable in cut scenes tho so I don't worry about it too much.

Overall I'm happy with the game. Sure the locations are familiar and the gameplay mechanics are familiar. But their familiar in a good way and there's more than enough new content to justify the purchase.

Well I personally cant be bothered almost every psp game i got was great for a few days then when i got over being able to play good looking games on the go I realised how so so they where. Ive personally not finished gta 3 and vice city is still a good way off being done so im sticking with them and ill get this next year when its going for €20.

don't own a pps but two guys in the house do and Pete bought GTA: LCS over the weekend.

    > On foot is muck imo, havn't noticed loads of ghosting but it just doesn't feel right.
    > driving is much better.
    > soundtrack is good :) [default taxi music is a laugh but gets annoying after more than a couple of listens]

not the greatest game ever by far but good :)

    8/10 maybe.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 2,432 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peteee

Picked this up at the weekend. Only played it for an hour or two, But overall impressions are that its GTA3 in your pocket (Which is fine for me because I never really played gta3 all that much)

Nicely sized city again (San Andreas far too big)

Good radio stations (Like Kai said, I love the hindi taxi music!!!)

The out of car controls are a bit dodgy with the analog controller. Cars are nigh on perfect.

The ghosting issue, I'm not sure if this is the game or the screen. I remember GTA3 had a 'blur' option, so this might be the same thing. Havnt encountered ghosting in other games/movies

I'd easily pick the ghosting over the 15-20fps mess that is GTA:SA on the ps2

For anyone interested game in blanch (not sure about others) are doing a deal trade in wipout or ridge racer or some other game and get lcs for 25 euro. Im thinking i might do this cause I am finished with ridge racer. The ghosthing thing was in gta 3 and vice city maby its a setting that can be turned off.
