just upgraded my psp to play this. decent enough. i'll wait until i get into it to make a proper opinion... but it's defo worth upgrading compared to the homebrew scene which is slowly grinding to a halt (emu's just aint the same on psp)

I paid £23, so about €33 or so. Good old Tesco with % off offers and vouchers you can exploit...

Just need to a) Get the game (in no rush at that price) and b) decide when to upgrade.

Does anybody know if you can trade in games from another region in shops like Game? I've got Wipeout Pure US version and I'm wondering if they'll take it anyway.

Try selling or trading it on Boards. You'll get more than GAME would give ya.

Yeah I was thinking of eBay too... just more hassle involved selling it online than wandering into a shop I guess heh.

i only really get bad ghosting at night in the game, no that noticeable either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,422 ✭✭✭Doodee

the ghosting is bad alright. but the game isn't that bad.
the cutscenes are pretty good, little humour thrown in, and it explains a bit more about GTA3.

I think its good. If the ghosting were to be fixed then the psp is well worth what ya pay for it.

To the people who are complaining about the price of the game (€60), Sony will charge as much as they want, knowing people will pay for it. I too think it's a scandalous price for a portable game, a four year old ported game at that. The only way game pricing will change is if people in droves simply refuse to pay the prices and don't buy the games, like that's going to happen. I myself want Football Manager 2006 for the PC, but absolutely refuse to pay the €60 Gamestop in Carlow want for it... GOOD LUCK

    How can you say that?

The GTA3 game engine and game mechanics/physics have been reused for Vice City, San Andreas and now Liberty City Stories, all Rockstar are doing is making new missions, throwing in a new gun or two, changing the era (80's etc.) and being paid for the same tweaked code again.

Sorry I didn't see the word ported in your original post.

everyone knew lcs was a port before it was out, so there's no point bitching about it now.

as for the other gta games being "ports", the engine is very different in each game, and the cities are entirely different. i see no problem in them tweaking the engine for each game as long as the gameplay works - which it does.

anyway for their ps3 gta game they're making their own engine. if you dislike the renderware engine, wait for that

Isn't renderware a middleware software suite that EA own?

    Yep, they bought it recently.

But it's not a true port is it - a port is just a straight transfer of a game from one platform to another - for example Grandia II from Dreamcast to PC/PS2, and even Skies of Arcadia from Dreamcast to GameCube, though that did have a few bits and pieces added.

Yes, GTA:LCS is in the same city, but everything else about the game is different is it not...? Aside from the basic game mechanics, but come on they can't change that or it's not Grand Theft Auto is it?

Hmmm I don't understand all the negativity. Especially about price, oh my god its the same price as every other new console game! Who'd have thought! I'd rather spend the money on GTA than anything else released recently.

It's got lots in common with the other GTA games sure, but I don't mind a port when it's a port of one of the best games on home consoles, and it's not like its a true port, it's got a completely new set of missions and stories, and just playing around in the sandbox of Liberty City when you don't have time to do missions is perfectly suited for a portable too.

Ghosting is pretty noticeable though, I'm confused about that because it hasn't seemed bad in any other games, surely its a screen thing and should be independent of the game but I dunno. It's mostly noticeable in cut scenes tho so I don't worry about it too much.

Overall I'm happy with the game. Sure the locations are familiar and the gameplay mechanics are familiar. But their familiar in a good way and there's more than enough new content to justify the purchase.

Well I personally cant be bothered almost every psp game i got was great for a few days then when i got over being able to play good looking games on the go I realised how so so they where. Ive personally not finished gta 3 and vice city is still a good way off being done so im sticking with them and ill get this next year when its going for €20.

don't own a pps but two guys in the house do and Pete bought GTA: LCS over the weekend.

    > On foot is muck imo, havn't noticed loads of ghosting but it just doesn't feel right.
    > driving is much better.
    > soundtrack is good :) [default taxi music is a laugh but gets annoying after more than a couple of listens]

not the greatest game ever by far but good :)

    8/10 maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭Peteee

Picked this up at the weekend. Only played it for an hour or two, But overall impressions are that its GTA3 in your pocket (Which is fine for me because I never really played gta3 all that much)

Nicely sized city again (San Andreas far too big)

Good radio stations (Like Kai said, I love the hindi taxi music!!!)

The out of car controls are a bit dodgy with the analog controller. Cars are nigh on perfect.

The ghosting issue, I'm not sure if this is the game or the screen. I remember GTA3 had a 'blur' option, so this might be the same thing. Havnt encountered ghosting in other games/movies

I'd easily pick the ghosting over the 15-20fps mess that is GTA:SA on the ps2

For anyone interested game in blanch (not sure about others) are doing a deal trade in wipout or ridge racer or some other game and get lcs for 25 euro. Im thinking i might do this cause I am finished with ridge racer. The ghosthing thing was in gta 3 and vice city maby its a setting that can be turned off.

    no witch. just lying.

or he doesn't know what ghosting is

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭TheLedge

There are some ghosting issues as discussed above, but tbh its not a problem. It won't affect your enjoyment of the game unless you're a perfectionist and expect to have the processing power of a PS2 in your hands.

The radio stations are excellent and the sounds/acting is great. The differences between this and GTA III are minimal.

Go out and buy it. it's the best thing on the PSP.

    9.2/10

it's definitely the first game i got on psp that i play religiously. on staunton island now :D

also, star wars battlefront II is pretty damn good too for psp

While not a great game (because it's worse than San Andreas), it still is the best game for PSP yet.....

How can you compare the two? One is for a home console, the other for a portbale one. Of course it's going to be inferior.

agreed. what do people expect from a handheld console??

I gave in and got it and the ghosting is very bad but I can ignore that. My only real problem is that when your on foot its very hard to control him with the nub, in the car its fine just walking is a pain. Its a mixed bag its good in some places and not in others it just seems a bit rushed to me, only on the first few missions and seems to have borrowed from the sopranos story line a bit which isnt a bad thing I suppose. I dont know if id give it a 9/10 like most people id say more like 8/10 its impressive for a portable but there are some flaws. If your looking for the next evolution on from san andreas your going to be dissapointed this aint it but more importantly this isnt imo the killer app for the psp.

    the hell?

it's a psp for christ sake. no one should ever expect "the next evolution on from sa" from a console that fits in your palms. that's not the purpose of the bloody yoke

Tbh all this ghosting nonsense people are complaining about is pathetic. Throw your minds back to GTA 3 across all formats. There was an option to turn the blur effect on and off. The 'ghosting' on the PSP is just the same as that. Personally I think its deliberate, making it feel like GTA 3. I just played it 5 mins ago for the first time and as soon as I saw the "ghosting" I immediately thought 'Ah, just like GTA 3'. This should deffo not be an issue for anybody who can appreciate GTA...in your hands...whenever/wherever the feck ya want!

Now, please, forget the ghosting issue and continue with your thoughts and opinions on some other aspects of the game for a change. Pfft. ;)

    END OF RANT...

The ghosting on the PSP version is caused by a mix of the horrible black response of the PSP screen and the "trails" used by GTA games.

I always prefered trails off, thought the game looked much better without.
