Liberty City Stories Delayed

Hey guys, you'll have to wait until next friday. I wouldn't bother importing as it'll take ages and or be incompatible for multiplayer anyway. I know many have said the multi isn't a big deal but I'd far rather be able to than not ;)

No reasons confirmed for delay yet but I'll keep you posted.

Maybe this is so they can implement a version checker to ensure everyone is using 2.01 or higher - I've been waiting with baited breath to hear if this will be the case.
Homebrew is fantastic but if forced I'd choose to play GTA.

Think about it; I certainly doubt a week would be long enough to change info on a UMD. Doesn't make sense to me. Surely the GTA UMDs were in production long ago. I can't imagine them going straight from factory to shops so quickly. Regardless, I'd say it'd be cracked and available for UMD loaders (to those who legitimately own the game) if you want to play on an older firmware. May take a while but I reckon it'll happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

this doesnt make sense. When san andreas was delayed, it was delayed for a week about 1 month beforehand, but what difference can 1 week make when it was meant to come out in 4 days time. Surely all the UMD's are put away in boxes ready to be distributed to europe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭shortys94

i really hope its not 2.01 or higher needed for this, what was the most recent game released in ireland for psp? and what version did it need as this would probably be the same as of course the games are all packed up, a week doesnt make that much of a difference does it?

Can anyone who knows about this sort of thing tell us how likley it is that it is being delayed to allow a firmware upgrade to be made nessecery. I would have thought this to be incredibly hard so close to the release.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 599 ✭✭✭Cabelo

I asked one of the bosses (editor of a major games website) and he didst say this, "Probably all this is is shipping but if they started this two weeks ago and just announced the delay now they could well have done the firmware update. The real question is, has 2.01 been around long enough for that to make sense."

Neither of us knew... nobody in the office could remember dates. The thrust, it may be within the boundaries of possibility but not likelihood. Boss seemed to think it could be done though.

Pity, thankfully the US date is still the same, so I can still grab it tomorrow :D

    PWNAGE
Grand Theft Auto: LCS - Only on 2.00 Firmware

    Gtapsp2352351

After multiple emails from users confirming it, we are confident to post that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will ONLY work on PSPs running 2.00 firmware. It will not work with SXT version changer, Fastloader, UMD Emulator, No Update UMD Starter, or any other version switcher / workaround type program. Looks like your only choice is to upgrade to 2.00.

Note: to upgrade to 2.00 we strongly suggest that you use our tutorial to upgrade instead of using a UMD or network update, as we are sure that you will be able to downgrade back to 1.50 using our method. To upgrade to 2.00, download the eboot [here], and use it with Sony’s instructions [here].

Keep in mind that you can still use the 2.00 eboot loader to run SOME homebrew on your PSP even with 2.00 firmware. You can check out the details of which homebrew you can run [here].

so u need to update. [APPARENTLY]
no way im updating. But i will have to eventually because i take it sonys gonna take this route.

    I'm not sure you've caught that... 2.0

Downgrade again whenever you want... it's as easy as a nice big cake. Jeez Placebo, don't make me do all the thinking ;)

Same as playing many UMD movies... upgrading for a week ain't a problem for me; and downgrading all over the place isn't either.

haha, yeah heard you could upgrade and downgrade, alot of hassel though..

Mwa ha ha, never got around to downgrading, and I don't think it'll be happening any time soon :p

That people are prefering to lose homemade games to play real PSP games?

Do you really need to take a dig at the PSP lineup in every thread.

    haha yes.
homebrew games are awful but there are good homebrew applications being made nearly everyday and on top of that i like to have my games load faster and have more than 1 in my memory stick.

well said that man; unless there's a 3.0 out soon (because it'll take a major firmware change to mean games literally can't play games without an update) then we're fine. No problems :)

    Liberty City Stories Delayed?
Posted by Luke at 15:33. Site: GTA: Liberty City Stories. Category: General

Some news that may disappoint you - the UK release of GTA: Liberty City Stories has apparently been delayed for one week. Neither Rockstar Games or publisher Take2 Interactive confirmed these reports, but UK game distributor Gem have announced that November 4th is the new release date. We're currently doing our best to find out more.

    Source: Pro-G

EDIT: I've just got off the phone with Rockstar's headquarters here in the UK who have assured me that they are still on target for the 28th of October and that everything is currently to schedule, but insisted that they wouldn't know for sure until it was in the shops.
I really hope its out tomorrow, can anyone ring GAME or anything because they will have it now, if it is out tomorrow.

surely there'll be a new trick version changer to make it think it is 2.1 soon!

BUT the games are actually using the 2.00 functionality, it doesnt just read the version number and gets tricked, eg: GTA uses the new video codec that came with with the new 2.00 upgrade.

apologies for not clearing up my earlier statement lads. I saw the exact same statement that Kanny posted above. That's why I thought it might still be on for release tomorrow

im not too bothered though, its just GTA. ive played 3 , vice and san andreas on the ps2 before - alot.

Damn, it is Nov 4th. Im pissed.

I've just reasearched it and you absolutely have to update to 2.0 for this game to run which has seriously pissed me off because i hoped the WAP version changer would handle it.The game is encoded with 2.0 software or something like that so alas there is no way to get it to run on 1.5,looks like we'll have to upgrade and get it or stick with homebrew.
on other homebrew news, basic 2.0 homebrew software is now able to run using something that i saw somewhere.nothing fancy yet but give it time i guess.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 599 ✭✭✭Cabelo

This is exactly the same as watching UMDs, you must update to 2.0 to gain use of some video codecs (as pointed out here).

Honestly, I don't see the problem. If you want GTA that badly you'll upgrade and downgrade. If you don't then you won't. It's not an irreversible change either so it's not an issue.

I don't see why people have a bee in their bonnet about waiting a week for release either. I've waited longer for a lot of games; some of which I don't doubt better than LCS will be. Come on lads, it's just a game :)

Just wondering how close to the delivery date do they actually deliver the game? i.e. is it possible that there are some independents that may have the game and haven't got the word about the new release date?

/me crosses fingers on the slightest change of getting it tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭lafors

I'm over in the U.S. at the moment, and got GTA on tuesday morning.
You have to update to 2.0 firmware, but I used a method I found on pspupdates.qj.net, which, from what they say will be possible to downgrade from or use homebrew on at a later stage.

About the game, well its pretty good so far. Missions are way to easy so far, and I've been playing it a lot. Custom Soundtracks are broken which according to rockstar was added at the last minute. Would be cool to have your own radio station :) The music is OK, not great though, and I hear the same songs over and over again. I'm not sure if this is because of the fact a UMD is smaller than a DVD?

City is the same as GTA 3 with a couple of minor changes, and some of the same people are in it again.

Controls were a bit annoying to start with but thats because I'm used to xbox controls, Playstation owners will have no problems (I can't make them the same, there are only 2 options).

Even though most of what I've said is minor complaints this game it still good. I love the intro music, and the movie clips are very good so far, definitley an 18s cert game :)

So, if you likde the others then you'll like this.
    (Apologies for the long post)

2.00 is running homebrew like emulators etc but now kernal commands etc = so no umd emulators yet etc.
some guy already haas found the problem. It will be cracked soon, ive no problem in buying the game but not upgrading for now,too much hassel but all games will have this now.. i would love to have a big collection of psp games, i dont mind - i can afford it BUT GOOD games, not old ps2 ports, as i have a ps2.
Give me Street fighter 3, give me a new Street fighter game with new sprites, new console, new games. fools.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭dimerocks

so all the emulators are now fully operational on 2.0 because if thats the case ill simply upgrade.and downgrading is a problem because it still has unknown effects to your WiFi and apparently some umd problems.
i hooked on chrono trigger so i dont want to loose it!!!

I'd bet 100 euro on GTA being playable on 1.5 by the time we get it next Friday. From looking at other forums it's looking like people are making a lot of progress with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭dimerocks

are you sure because the thing i read which is from a very good psp related site is saying it is looking like it will be impossible to play it on 1.5. if links to those forums dont contain anything illegal could you post them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭spritey

    I knew this'd happen.......

Well, good news is that there are SNES, NES, Master System & a few other emulators working on v2.0.

Bad news is this could be the start of a long long line of "do I upgrade?" questions.... I'm leaning toward it because I've got more enjoyment out of proper PSP games so far than the homebrew, and I can always play emulators on my PC... the PSP makes an expensive emulator.

No way I'm going to upgrade/downgrade all the time for whatever takes my fancy!

the main progress seems to be happening on maxconsole.net

wouldn't post any links to that on here. It's rife with illegal conversations ;)

big progress has been made indeed and they have actually found the lines of code, a few hex lines that are stopping it.
I give it a week and its hacked. But surley this is a big step for sony.
