Does anyone remember these crisps - they were in a blue packet, round shape (larger than onion rings), salt & vinegar flavour. I think they were called smacks or something like that?
I mentioned them here in work & everyone keeps mentioning onion rings & hula hoops.. They think I'm imagining them!!

Cool, knew I wasn't imagining them... Everyone here thinks I'm mad, but it was annoying me that no one knew them? Just after finding them on the Tayto website - they're called Snaps!
On that note, just after seeing King Crisps on the tayto.ie website - are these made by Tayto??? This throws a whole different light on the whole King vs Tayto arguement!

Does anyone remember Golden Wonder potato crisps and are they still made? They were the nicest ever!

Snaps are still around where I live (where the 1980's reign supreme) but they're pretty expensive considering the amount in the pack. :-/

Golden Wonder crisps are still around, unless my memory is completely gone, heh.

Snaps weren't salt and vinegar flavour - they were clearly spicy - Mr Bumble, Mr Bumble - I demand a recount!

P.s. does anyone remember the smiths crisp ads sung to "bobby's girl" it ended with the line "we'd change the sign while the farmers gone to tea" - oh how we laughed. :D

Yes, I do remember them fondly. They were lovely!

Also Farmer Brown's Loops were very nice too. IIRC, they were in a white packet with a stereotypical French cartoon guy with onions around his neck. Damn, I'd love some of them now.

Ah yes. I'd go into a shop with 10p and buy a packet of crisps and a Woppa bar.

    Ah the memories............

They changed Golden Wonder crisps. Hideous new logo/packaging and they taste crap. They were getting hammered by Walkers in the UK, there was a really interesting show on (it think) the BBC where they went into the history of UK crisps. Talking to the company directors and stuff. :D

I really miss Jacket potatoes. They're still around but not nearly as nice. They used to be black around the edges and taste fantastic.

You can still buy the ole snaps, but they have more grease than a greasey thing. On the 80's/90's crisp thingy, whatever happened to banshee bones and ghosties!I also saw burger bites the other day, made me think of hours of trying to pick the bloody things from my teeth! :D <- Proper Bastid!

good old burger bites.. oh how i miss them :(

the new ones are NOT the same as the old. They changed all those types of crisps... they just dont have the same quality to them.

anyone remember bikers? they were def the best of that league. They brought them back recently as well... but not the same at all.

Yup, Banshee bones and Ghosties are still around, though it's hard to find shops that stock them. True that Burger Bites aren't like they were, but nor is Tayto Snax, IMO, which I used to love.

    Snaps are Pickeled Onion flavour.

I use to go swimming every tuesday and afterwards I would buy 5 packets for 50p and eat them on the way home. One day I had £1 and bought 10 packets. My stomach was in bits afterwards.

Bikers are still around too, well were 2 years ago anyway. I saw them in a shop & bought around 3 packets in delight.. They definately were one of the nicest crisps...
Were those Farmer Browns crisps the ones that were 5p? I used to love those ones, 10p could stretch so far!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,388 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

    Bikers? do you mean wheelies.
    what about "screaming green mummies"
alien spacers were the best, closely followed by the old style mega meanies, original king crunchos were great.
They always end up changing them for the worst, but always say "new and improved"

Most of those starch snacks are just made from the waste of the real crisps.

Snaps were great, I remember one christmas going to musgraves and getting a box of chickatees, think they lasted about 3 days, had to get my mate to get me another box before anyone realised Id eaten the lot. As far as I know there still about.
Im a bit of a meanies man at the moment.

Does anyone remember the orange packet of monster munch?

I remember these crisps that my friend brought over from england which I thought were the coolest ever!!

The were vinegar flavoured or plain flavoured or something but there was a sachet of salt in the packet which you sprinkled over the crisps!! How cool is that!
