Unless you're serious bout gettin lower there are better options out there then those Taylor Made.
I'm playin off 5 usin a set of Wilson Di7's, and find them better then any "low handicap irons" I've used before.....and I've gone through a few!!! LOL!!

Loads of driving ranges now either have demo clubs or host demo days so you should try those out if you can. There are some really nice clubs out there if you look!

Interesting fitting options on the woods, considering that the Matrix comes as stock in the D Comp, aswell as the Diamana in the woods and hybrid (albeit with a choice of Voodoo).

Considering the driver is a 10.5 and has a high launch shaft, it's completely at odds with the 3 wood and hybrid that have the Diamana Whiteboard, which is a low launch shaft.

I'm all for fitting myself just interested to hear the reasoning behind the wildly different setup in the woods?

Also like to know why come the PW from the AP2's and a 49* Vokey in the bag?
How similar are these clubs? Must be a reason...

F22. The first of the woods was the 909f2 and was fitted to that shaft. The problem I had with my Burner 3 wood was I really struggled of the deck with it and I was told it was due to the shaft being too light for me. As I was now hitting my 3 wood so well I went for a fitting of a driver thinking the Diamana shaft in that would be perfect, but discovered that I struggle with launch angles and needed the Dcomp and the high launch shaft to achieve this, (the loft address the problem with the 3 wood and rescue) would I have learned this without custom fitting? no. I have taken my handicap from just under 14 to 11.2 this season and played into the finals of the club championships doubles, so the proof is in the playing.

I'd be interested in how you got on.
Looking for a new driver at the moment, have tried out their Cleveland XLS Draw, but waiting for them to get a Monster XLS in a Draw so I can try it.

The XLS is €149, Monster is priced €279 with a free fairway wood.
Waiting to here what's the best price they can do, cos I can get the same Monster+fairway deal online for about €200 delivered.

So very interested on how good a deal they cut you.

I got all for €199 which i think is a good deal (secondhand). They spent about an hour going through different clubs with me. I told them i was thinking of getting a set of improvment irons and what had they. Assistants and i presume the owner were very helpful. Talked me through the pro's & con's of the different sets.

They told me if i'm not happy with clubs they'll take them back in and will give me what i paid for them against another set (within 6 weeks)

BTW - I originally went in for one wedge!!

Have made a few changes this summer, so here's the new stuff.......

Driver – Ping G10 [9º] [Grafalloy Pro Launch Red Stiff]
    3 Wood – Mizuno F-50 [15º] [Exsar FS 2 Stiff]
    Rescue Wood – Ping G5 [19º] [Aldila NVS 85 X-Flex]
Irons – Mizuno MP-60 [3-PW] [True Temper Dymanic Gold S300]
Gap Wedge – Titleist Vokey Design [52º]
    Sand Wedge – Cleveland CG10 [56º]
Putter – Odyssey Black Series iX #1 [34”]

Swapped my rescue cos the Taylormade one I had was a rescue 4 and a bit redundant . Also have new driver - had the Mizuno MP600 and needed a lower loft but shop didn't have it so I walked out with the Ping G10!! Swapped lob wedge for a gap wedge and got new putter.

They can be good sales people alright.
Still waiting on the exact club I want to test out, looking for a draw in a regular shaft, though I have asked their best price.
Its still €55 above what I could get the same club for online, but would prefer local, depending on how close to the online price they can get.
Waiting for their comeback on price now - if they meet the amount I've set in my head, I'll give them the business, if they dont, I'll go online.

I had considered the mp67's when I was buying a set earlier this year. Can I ask how you find them ???. I decided to go with the 57's

The minute I saw them I wanted them. They have r300 shafts in them so I got them for 200e second hand. Very little wear on them. Because of the shafts in them I cant really swing too fast but they are so sweet to hit & imo the nicest iron ive seen.

Ive got s300 shafts here that I bought off ebay so Im going in for a fitting in a week or two. That should really improve my accuracy as im getting a strong draw at the moment due to the r300 shaft.

But yeah, totally sexy iron, a well struck shot is just so sweet, a bad one really feels really dead but thats what forged irons are all about. No loss of distance either as Ive read players who lost 1 iron in distance.

I hit the new mp68 irons in the states last month. Top line is fatter & not as nice at address imo.

Ping G5 Driver. 12 deg, soft reg, TFC 100 shaft.

Orlimar TriMetal 18 deg Fairway wood.

    Cleveland Halo 3, 4, 5 and 6 Hybrids.

Ping ISI K irons 7,8,9,W, W2 and SW2. Reg. steel shafts.

JBoss 60 Deg Rusty LW (Identical to Cleveland).

Longridge 2Ball Putter, 35". (Similar to Odyssey but with a heavier head).

I have accumulated a huge number of other clubs over the years. I also have a Cleveland XLS, a Callaway Hawkeye and a Big Bertha 454 driver. Callaway Hawkeye and Steelhead fairway woods. 4 other Orlimar fairway woods. A 19 deg (2) Cleveland Halo. A set of Big Bertha 2002 irons. 3 lob wedges, including a Ping ISI K which I alternate with my current one. A Ping B60 and an Odyssey Sabretooth putter. Plus one or two more clubs also!

I probably should have traded some of them in over the years but I'm a bit of a squirrel and you usually don't get much on a trade in anyway. My oldest son plays as well and "borrows" one or two of them from time to time.

Driver - TM r7 460 TP 9.6 Stiff reaxx shaft
3 Wood - Ping G10 TFC Reg shaft
Rescue - Ping G5 Aldila NVS reg shaft
    Irons - Mizuno MX25 3-PW reg shafts
Ping Tour W 60 and 56 degree reg wedges
Scotty Cameron Studio Design No5 Putter
Mizuno Aerolite stand bag (only bought this as it's Man City blue)!!
Balls - keep going back to Srixon Ad333. Have tried TM and ProVs, but just love the Srixons.

Will be replacing most of the kit as I have been working out a lot over the past year and apparantly stiff shafts would now suit me better. Since getting the TaylorMade driver I have been so consistant with my drives and the increase in distance is mind boggling, as I was never a long hitter.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,523 ✭✭✭spurscormac

    Update on my kit...

Driver: Cleveland Monster XLS 10.5 Draw (new)
3 Wood: Cleveland XLS 15 deg (new)
    5 Wood: Crappy cheap Regal
    Irons: Wilson Ci6 3-PW
    Sand Wedge: Old crappy one
Lob Wedge: Wilson Harmonized 60 deg
Putter: Ancient no brand but does the job
    Ball: Srixon AD333

Just got the Driver and 3 wood, distance much improved & has straightened me up a lot. The LW is specifically for my home course to get up & over bunkers with little green to play with.
Only played with the AD333 ball for the first time yesterday, seemed a good ball, will need to play home course to judge the distance better. Nice feel around the greens though.
Will eventually get a 5w or equivalent loft utility to replace what I have. The wedges are also up to be replaced, but will be done over a number of months in these financially challenging times.

    Driver: Titleist 905R 10.5 Reg
    3 Wood: Benross V3 (i think)
    Irons: Titleist AP2 3-PW
Wedges: Taylormade Rac TP 52', 56' and 60'
    Putter: Nike OZ

Still unsure do the irons suit me and my handicap...not hitting them as consistently as my older irons but saying that im also not playing much at the moment.

Also looking for a new blade stlye putter!
