You get stung for customs, tvnutz?!

If so, how much was the damage?

Very much enjoyed the last 3 episodes, we made a night of it with a few beers and the surround sound turned up high.

I'm not going to mention the exact part but we got a big fright at one particular scene when something unexpected happens, do you know which one I'm talking about.

    Hint: <spoiler removed>

Edit: Just remembered you wont have seen the episodes yet if you only got the box set a short while ago

It's on my da's credit card,so Ill have to see if they charged customs onto that when he gets the bill :p

I think only Amazon.com charge the card. They have no authorisation to charge more than the price online when you bought it.

UPS will be the one who'll send you an invoice for the customs charge (the above €16 + government import tax), though they usually won't hand over the package until you've paid the duty.

In your case, if you have the package already, it must've slipped through the net altogether. Weird, but it happens.

Basquille's right - regular Amazon shipping (anything from a week to 21 days) has always come through An Post for me, and doesn't get customs taxed.

Surely they would have given me the invoice when they came to the door,no? They just asked me to sign and that was it. What sense does it make for them to come with an invoice or send it in the post when they could give it right there and then?

Have you ever used this before with amazon? Are you sure part of the money i pay to amazon is not going to UPS? Priorty shipping is $26 plus the dvd, altogether it came to about $65. amazon wouldn't charge that much for putting it in a box! some of that has to be to pay UPS?

 lol I wouldn't have the first clue how it works to be honest, even if I did work in An Post for 2 years

The invoice may take time to process from a different department. I don't think it normally comes with the box on delivery, but then with most imports via courier, the box isn't usually handed over until the customs charge is paid.

Nope, never did the UPS option with Amazon. Mine always come through regular post. Going with a courier usually causes it to be spotted by customs.
The charge for the courier option via Amazon *is* going to UPS, but the "customs administration charge" and the "import VAT charge" is added on once it arrives. It's about €16+VAT (21%, I think of the total cost of the product).

Yeah, the €26 is for UPS to ship it faster, that's all paid for. The €16 administration + VAT is the customs charge which you might be invoiced for later. That'll be the Irish Goverment looking for a cut, the jammy gits. (Although, as I say, I thought you couldn't get the box until you paid, so your case may not be usual.)

Have to admit I'm not 100% sure myself. Regular Amazon.com (standard shipping) boxes do go through An Post and don't get customs charged. Couriers are different, though (supposedly). Friends who did import via courier (computer parts, games and even a lightsabre replica!) always had their package held by the courier until they paid the customs charges to 'release' it. Yours may well have slipped through the net (in which case, fair play to you!)

I have NEVER been charged Customs when using either standard or expedited shipping with Amazon.
A few weeks ago however Amazon.ca decided to upgrade my shipment to courier and that indeed was nabbed by customs.
I would appear that An Post just don't bother their arses following it up, whereas UPS/DHL/whoever do things by the book.

I didnt get mine yet and I ordered and had it dispatched from Movietyme on Sept 12th as well!!

Its a conspiracy between them and CDwow I know it

I'm really cracking up. I think those of us that have ordered from Amazon and haven't gotten the DVD yet, should write a petition and send it to God, asking him to make CD-Wow send them tomorrow. I have to watch them all on DVD before the second season!

CDWow had better dispatch it tomorrow or I'll be cancelling the order...

How do they lie? Do they say it's a gift on the package and therefore you don't have to pay tax if it's less than €45?

Is the tax relief limit €22 if it's not a gift?

Once it's coming through regular post, the chance of having to pay tax is small. Even packages worth over €100 usually get through.

Well I saw on a different dvd forum that someone that ordered it with the 20% off discount from cdwow yesterday had it dispatched yesterday as well
Pretty bad form if its true (I would have linked to the post but the person who commented on this seems to have had the post deleted as you cant mention discount links on that particular site)

Doesnt make sense if they are not shipping pre-existing orders first?

Tell them you are cancelling your order unless you receive a discount, you have been incovenienced enough by CDwow.

    see what they say?

Cdwow seem to be a bit of a joke alright, don't think that I will be ordering from them again anytime soon.
In fairness I can't see them giving any discounts on it to be honest. Is there any other place that I could order it from and would have it quicker than cdwow could send it out anf for around the €40 as well?

There is movietyme which is about €43, a few posts ago someone said that it got delivered to them in four days. Not sure myself because i've never ordered with them.

There is dvd empire which is about €35 but i don't know if that includes delivery charges or not and i'm not sure of the time of delivery.

There is dvd pacific aswell but i've never ordered from them so i can't say much.

I got mine from playusa.com which cost €52, it arrived in six working days though.

Cheers for this Apapaia. I thinkk I can wait on the DVD, I don't think that it is worth the hassle. What I can't wait for though is season 2!!

Just emailed CDWow... be interesting to hear what they have to say:
I'm very, very disappointed in the ridiculously poor service you're providing and want my order cancelled immediately so I can buy my DVD from a reputable supplier...

<my order number> is my order number and the item is Lost: The Complete First Season Region 1.

The dispatch date has been put back 4 (yes, 4!) times.

Cancel my order immediately and I expect a full refund for the DVD you have constantly failed to supply me with.
I'll order it from someone who'll actually send it to me...

Heh, just received a €2 discount on anything I want from CDWow!

Ah, there's my full refund email now :) With no comment

I got mine from Movietyme this morning!!

Am really happy to have it...although I have read on different dvd forums that CDwow are starting to ship it now...again though all these people are in the UK and I'm not sure if that made a difference compared to international orders (It shouldnt of :()

Anyhow....Mine worked out at approx €44 from movietyme and no customs charges..took 8 days compared to 4 days someone else got it delivered in though!

As for the discount...I think Basquille ordered using the 20% discount link so its unlikely they would give a voucher as goodwill for the delays. I've never gotten a voucher from cdwow even after complaining and going mental when they took 6 weeks to ship Cool Runnings to me a few weeks back!!!!! (They were probably doing me a favour :) but it was for the kids honest!)
