Best be quick with this! Already cancelled my order with Amazon for this instead.

Simply use this link with no vouchers - it's 20% off the current price!! (normally £31.99 on CDWOW!)

Can only do it with one item per time!

No customs / import taxes for me! :D

PS - Thanks to acquiescefc for the heads-up!

Brilliant.. Just ordered mine there and cancelled the one from amazon..

    Amazon: $45.97 = €37.43
    CD WOW: £25.59 = €37.54

Plus you're not charged customs for items under €45...

    Am I missing something?

    thanks

    Amazon:
    Item(s) Subtotal: $38.99
    Shipping & Handling: $6.98
    Total Before Tax: $45.97
    Estimated Tax: $0.00
    Grand Total: $45.97 (EURO: 37)

    CDWOW:
    TOTAL £25.59 (EURO: 38)

Correct me if i'm wrong... but whats the rush over to cdwow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

How did you do that? lol...if you don't click that link, and just go over to the site, search for Lost, there is no 20% off...its £31.99...

The link does work,it is only £25 when you click the link, just wondering how you managed to do that :D

Also,ye,there isn't much a difference at all...except will Cd wow be faster than Amazon? If it is I will change, but if not I dont really see the point...and I think I have until the 6th to cancel...any thoughts? :D

I'm going to leave it as long as I can to order it, make sure I get the best deal, but I can't see much of a difference between the Amazon one and CDWow...

Anyone know which is the most reliable, if it's the same price may aswell go for the quickest/safest option...

Wrong.. done extensive research on the subject.

No taxes for regular items under €22 from outside the EU! And no taxes for GIFTS under €45 sent by a PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL outside the EU.

So, unless it's a birthday gift from Auntie Amazon.com - you are still liable to pay tax!

    PS - you're welcome all! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,180 ✭✭✭samo

Thanks Basquille - good suss by you and the OP on bargain alerts - paid off in the end!!

CDwow SHOULD be a bit faster than Amazon - normally about 7 days or so while amazon quote 9-20 days!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

I just cancelled with amazon as well..you convinced me basquille :D I did it mostly because I hope it will be here sooner than the end of September.

So Cousin CDWow.ie/ .co.uk in Hong Kong counts as being in the EU then and the 45euro limit does not apply?

Or is that what the extra 1 euro charge that they had to add on sometime last year about?

Exactly! As long as you're ordering from inside the EU.. you're fine! I'm still ordering Undeclared on DVD from Amazon.com so i'll let you know how that works out.

Importing from the US can be seriously risky though! Very pricey if taxed.

No idea what you mean by the €1 charge... the only charge i know of is Amazon.com charge you $1 (or €0.81) to check your credit card information (but reimburse it after it's been checked - providing you don't use a 3V Voucher).

I seemed to remember it being only 1euro extra that they changed the prices by last year, but it could have been a bit more according to these threads:

Ah yes.. i remember reading about this! As far as i know.. i remember CD WOW! finding some loophole around this.

The prices advertised on the website is the price you should pay.. i think they may have went up temporarily last year at some stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭Peace

Changed order over to cdwow as i think their shipping is indeed faster than what comes fromt he states sometimes.

    Thanks to basquille!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Am just hoping they honour all the orders - CDWOW accidentally offered a free CD yesterday. But now has changed the price back up to €8.45 and cancelled all orders of it.

Also last week Amazon.co.uk were selling boxsets of Angel / Buffy (etc.) for practically nothing but cancelled everyone's order due to a pricing mistake.

Hopefully.. this way is a bit more legitimate and not a CD WOW f-up!

horray! I've ordered it! thanks! I work shift and kept missing bits, now I'm all over the place with it!

I've finally settled on this deal. Now we play the waiting game.

It's released next Tuesday in the US.

Any idea if it'll be shipped before it comes out officially?

I've heard of people ordering things from Amazon and having it through their door the day of release

    Hey all,

I ordered the Lost boxset about a month ago from playusa. Would anyone be able to tell me if it will be taxed or not? And also, how long it usually takes to deliver from playusa? is it the same as play.com?

I still have a while to cancel the order in case i want to change to cdwow.

No.. you won't be taxed on PlayUSA.com as they operate inside the EU. They just specialise in Region 1 DVD's - hence the USA bit! :D

Deliver should take about the same as Play.com - a week to 10 days typically!

    Cheers basquille!

Thats what i thought but i was unsure. I'll stay with playUsa for the moment so.

Just so you know, the prices are a tad different.

    PlayUSA price = €52.99
    CD-Wow price = €37.57

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Narcissus

yeah i know, i'll probably change over in the next day or so when i can set up an account with cdwow.

Why is it £25.59 in the checkout but £31.99 if you search for it?

    Cheers Basquille !
Just ordered it there, am I right in assuming the DVD will erach me before the series finale on RTE ?

Also I recieved the Simpsons season 6 over a week earlier than expected so it may be here in the next week or so.

    Happy Days !

actually thats not true, they ship all their dvd's straight from the u.s. even if tthey are actually based in the e.u. there was a big disclaimer about it when they first opened it, that you can and will be charged customs

im ordering mine from dvdpacific, with airmail it comes to Euro40 exactly, so i'll see how it goes

    News to me!

Don't think that's true as they operate under the same policy CD WOW! do with regards to Region 1 DVD's.. they hike up the price on the imported DVD's so you've no real chance of saving money by ordering it outside the EU.

Does anyone know if dvdempire.com is any good? reliability? delivery on time?

they have the lost boxset for $42(about €35), but you have to pay delivery aswell, which comes to about €15 for 2 - 5 days, or €8 for 1 - 4 weeks.

just looking at all the options :)

I think it's a discount from the referrer in the link... ie the link sends you to some site (www.points.com?) and that redirects you to CDWow which discounts your order because rsites have paid CDWow in exchange for the advertising they get (doesn't really work for htem though when someone links to it externally, like in this thread :))

I could be completely wrong here though...

Yep, released today but CDWOW seem to be taking their time shipping mine (see below)!

Expect it to pop in your door 5 - 7 days after recieving an e-mail from CDWOW! saying it's been shipped!

Same problem here... very annoying. They should have known what their demand was as all they had were pre-orders.

    Ah.. feck it!!

Didn't get the e-mail yet but expecting it!

    Just got that email too.
Still, at least I'm getting it on the cheap.

Yeah I got the same e-mail. Mumble grumble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Got that as well, they are normally very quick in getting extra stock in, and always add a few days to cover themselves.

Remember pre-ordering a product, and got an email saying it would take another week due to high interest, got it a few days later.
