Obviously not room to include everything - hence the 'other' option.

I prefer The Guardian although The Irish Times is pretty close.
I cannot understand why people read tabloids.

I especially cannot understand people who complain about the 'arrogant British media blowing up England's chances' and then buy those very papers.

Daily Telegraph. I hold little sway with their political assuasions, but like the journalism, the wit and the style of the paper. It also happens to be cheaper than nearly all our homegrown papers, broadsheet or tabloid.

I usually read the Irish Sun, the main reason i like it is i can read it without spreading it out over a table , I absolutly hate Broadsheets !! they are just a load of right-wing codswallop, I also hate the star ala Sports only paper, I don't want to know how the dublin under 12's soccer league is going as that rubbish is all that is in the star along a bazillion crazy frog / ringtone ads

I prefer the Irish Independent when I come back from work or want a decent read.
If I'm out on work I don't have much time to read something proper so something that can flicked through in a minute or two is handy like The Sun or The Star. Just something mindless with a bit of eye candy.

Evening Herald on Mon - Thurs, like the sports coverage.

Irish Times and Friday for the business/recruitment/tech section

Hahahaha! Anyone who regards the sun as a source of news is delusional. Sure, broadsheets are harder to read because of the way they're built but at least you get stories that resembles the truth! You might as well be reading the beano if you're going to get your news from the sun.

Take your broad sheet and fold in half so it's tall and narrow. Then fold it back the other way so there is crease in it. Now read the half pages folding forwards and back. You read the bit in the middle of the W

Jesus. If you're going to say you like tabloids, don't try to get political with it. Say something dignified and self-deprecating like "Ah sure it's just entertainment and I can't be arsed reading broadsheets" or whatever. Don't gloat at your own ignorance.

The irish Independant, although there doesnt seem to be any decent Papers in London.

All the papers here are either retarted (Sun, Star Etc.), Non stop Scare Tactics (The Guardian, The evening Standard) or Too Intillectual (The Times).

Well, at least the papers here are reasonably priced, unlike the Irish ones.

are you a fan of the England football team?

The Sun is one the worst papers for hyping up their chances in the most arrogant manner possible.
The obnoxious English media 'We'll never hear the end of it if they win' is one of the main reasons why Irish people love to hate the English national team.

Yet the paper sells in droves over here. Makes no sense whatsover.

I think it says quite a bit about the demographics of boards.ie when such an overwhelming number of people say the times and the indo. The circulation figures for the indo and the times may be big, but the sun sells as much as the times, and the star is up there.

For Dublin news I find the evening Herald to be a good rag, and the Star for lightweight but entertaining stories. If I want to go high-brow I'd plump for the compact Indo. Much handier than ****ty broadsheet version.

I certainly wouldn't read the Guardian though!

I don't buy papers much. but when I do its the Irish Times. The red top tabloids can lick my crack. The Irish Sun/Mirror are much the same as the UK versions, but with a couple of sports pages on GAA and the odd irish interest story thrown in - i.e. they're SH1TE.

Maybe because anybody who does read the tabloids is ashamed to admit it? They should be.

Irish independent for me, although since they brought out the compact edition there's been a worrying tendency towards slightly more tabloid features. Still good for the moment though. The Times is good as well, but the Independent really cornered a market when they started with the compact.

.Why would anybody be ashamed to admit readiong a tabloid!? What's with the attitude towards tabloids. They satisfy a READERSHIP.

People who read broadsheets and tabloids have a far better grasp of current affirs then people who just read one of the two.

I get that when the UK Indy isn't in, and I buy the Observer on Sunday - purely for Nick Cohen and, although I think he left, David Aaronivitch. The UK Independent is my paper of choice though, you've got Johann Hari and the hilarious Miles Kington, also if you're into it, Robert Fisk writes for them.

Yeah, he's excellent. Used to write for The Guardian, and still does the odd column for The Observer occasionally.

I bought the UK Independent regularly for about a month after the British General Election, because they were the only Paper pushing for a debate on the merits of a PR System, which I am a supporter of. But aside from specific instances like that, I stick with the Guardian.

Broadsheets cover news events in an unbiased and objective fashion. Supposedly. Not always true, but they're a hell of a lot closer than The Sun's rantings. I guess it depends on your definition of current affairs and what is considered news. If you want to know what the latest state of affairs in the EU is and how Chirac is handling Blair's rebate argument, you're going to head for the broadsheets. If you want to know who decided to move a sofa 3 inches to the left in Big Brother.....

I don't have a problem with tabloids as such, more with the culture that produces them. And I don't think they should be allowed to be marketed as newspapers

OT for a bit. PR=Proportional Representation? Are you saying you are a supporter of PR, or a supporter of a debate on it? Don't they already use that in the UK?

The IT has gone downhill in recent years. Its tech section was good when it was Computimes but went terminally cretinous during the dot.bomb period and now is just a bunch of irrelevance and product pimping masquerading as technology journalism. (Interestingly it has split the news coverage of the tech field out of the Friday tech section so I don't think that 'Technology In Business' will last that long in its present format.) Though in general, the IT has slipped more towards the OpEd style of journalism than the raw news reporting style. The Indo is getting too flooded with recycled material. The IT has always been a Dublin paper with delusions of adequacy when it comes to national coverage.

I used to regularly read the IT and the Indo but now tend to rely more on the web for news. After all, if I want coverage of the US, I can read US newspapers. If I want coverage of the UK, I can read UK papers.

    Regards...jmcc
