I was in France over the past couple of days & I saw this Austin Metro in a car park of a supermarket:

    f_Image006m_f973a62.jpg

I saw another one about a half an hour later. Funny, you'd be lucky to see one of those once a year here in Ireland!

Also, I have to say kudos to the French for keeping there cars for far longer than us Irish. The amount of old Renaults, Peugeots, etc. was unreal. I even saw a Renault Dauphine that looked to be in regular use aswell.

In this country, we'd nearly scrap a car if it was dirty. :(

Dont get me goin on dirty cars...you would think there was a water shortage in this country i swear...disgraceful..even 08 cars...no pride anymore..

It's amazing what this site teaches you.The Toyota above ,looking at the styling,I bought a little Nissan Exa Turbo (new)in 83 that had the same shape, but smaller, than that Toyota above, always wondered where the styling had come from as it was A) a departure from nissans normal offering and B) shortlived

Nice find Wishbone Ash! I am looking for one myself. But I want to put a 5 speed gearbox in it!

The B Diesel is regarded as one of the best diesels of all time, and it was the first Diesel engine built by Toyota in 1974!!

for all ones out there cant find any. they have just gone to the rust pile on the floor. how many old cars have been spotted and never given to a good home. the other day there down the local scrappy and he had just pick up a load of scrap metal of a farm, sitting on the back a mark1 escort van great nick (strapped for cash at the time) and he had got it for free to clear out of there. it has since been sold on. the thing that gets my goat is the car laying in the field/drive/tarpit or where ever track down the owner and they wont sell it just let it rust to death. i know of a mmk2escort been sitting out side the house rusting away, offered what ever 1st born, ect. so if any one finds a mark1astra give me a shout or even other old cars for free to be saved as i hate to see them die in such an awful way.

I posted up a pic or two of a mk1 astra on the abondoned classic thread a month or so ago, though that car has since been sold on...as for a good home, it depends what you mean, there isnt much point of having 10 cars if all they will do is sit outside at your house as opposed to the last owners house, covered storage is really the only way to go. I doubt if you had alot of rusty cars that you would ever restore them(im probably just as guilty:)), but if they were at least covered they wont deteriorate too much untill someone comes along who might be able to restore them.1982OPELKADETT83PZB.jpgheres a pic of that astra...

That Astra was owned by a Listowel man for years..

He used to pass me every morning when i was walking to school:D:D

I know that yard very well;) did you ask if its for sale???

It was for sale alright,i was going to buy it, but the engine was on its last legs, and it needed a good bit of bodywork,so i didnt, mike told me he sold it after that, so i dont know where it went.I hope it wasnt crushed, because it wasnt that bad really. And it was an original irish car too.

^ I recognise that Porsche, I was walking home from college one day a few weeks back and that drove past me, throwing out blue smoke everywhere Then it broke down, got going, and broke down again. The engine is nearly fecked in it.

It's an American import I think.

I've seen a 912E in an office car park near me - nice machine, seems to have migrated from Germany to the UK to here, going by stickers.

Pre '87 Limerick registered Defender in excellent condition (spotted in Co Limerick yesterday).

Would I be correct in saying that LIV was one of the last series issued in Limerick?

NIV was on the go in 1986 anyway. My father had a car with that reg.

OIV 520 was the last number issued in Co. Limerick on the 31/12/86. I haven't seen LIV 820 in years, but many years back it was fitted with a Mazda 2.8 engine, when its own one failed at around 50000 miles.

Ouch! I'd love to see the description given on that eBay auction... "Needs TLC?"
