Lloyd LT 600 from 1955 is the first ever mass produced vehicle designed as an MPV. This is distinct from something like the VW T1, essentially a commercial where seats and windows were added.

Alfa had an earlier MPV but it never was really a mass seller.


Lloyd LT 600 had 6 individual seats or 4 seats and a bench in 3 rows, spare was carried inside the car (on the right in second pic).

I doubt very much that the Lloyd was a 'mass seller', considering the company went bankrupt in the very early 60's.
The Fiat 600 Multipla would be a better choice, granted it appeared a year later in 1956, but it was still being built and used up to the 70's.

CX looks like its in Milltown opposite Spar, there's a Citroen specialist on Vernon Ave so usually a few around there.

It was a decent seller in it's day. I said it was the first mass produced car designed from the outset as an MPV. The first Renault Espace* wasn't a huge seller, but in Europe it kickstarted the MPV craze which led to the Ford Galaxy etc and down to the Renault Scenic, Modus etc.

* Chrysler Voyager was a year earlier but the Espace was on sale here first.

EDIT: They built a total of 44,605 LT 500/600 of which 19,937 were the 6 seat version. Some of that 44605 total were vans and special bodies. Less than 50 survive in Germany today.

Saw this baby this morning. A nice trip down memory lane as I drove an 89 in the same colour for years and loved it.

We had some adventures together and it ferried more than one lady on dates.

Great cars, I used to own this 2.0 16v one - I bought it in the UK in 2003 and, after 8 years of ownership, the guy I sold it to later emigrated to the UK, so it's still on the road, and back on its original UK registration. (My pic, but not a recent shot in keeping with the thread, but nip over to Plymouth and you can still get one!)

been meaning to show you guys this Mk1 Jetta for a while, finally got a couple of shots today. Local retired publican, has had it from it was a few years old. When the Vento was released, the local VW garage persuaded him to try a Vento and he traded in the Jetta. However he didn't get on with the newer car at all, and brought it back to the garage and took back his Jetta!

I see he give the wheels a skite of silver paint, and fitted mud flaps, lately.

The VW Microbus was launched in 1950 and was a vehicle designed to carry stuff - the stuff could be people as well! It was sold as a Microbus five years before the Lloyd was, whether it started out as a van in a sales sense or not is irrelevant because two models were offered from the start, one was a van and one was a Kombi with seats !! It was the first MPV.

Saw a white BX on a trailer on Friday. It was heading from Kilkenny towards Clonmel. Lot of green on it,like it was lying under a tree someplace. Few and far between nowadays.

I spotted that heading south on the M8 between Cahir and Michelstown. It was fairly green alright......

Wish I'd taken a photo now. Saw two yellow Porsche/VW 913s fresh off the boat from the States. One was 1970 with a 1.6 from Long Beach, other was 2.0. I'll see if I can get a pic tomorrow.

That's a Glanbia store the Cobra is at, probably going in for a roll of barbed wire and a bag of sheep feed....
