Remind me of where you are located again Do-more? Norway or Sweden?

I'm strongly thinking of going to Vasteras next year.

Ye I'm in Sweden but down on the very south coast so Västerås is a 7 hour drive for me or more.

Big Meet looks good, hadn't heard of it before, there's a huge Yank car scene here, there's an American car show in my local town Trelleborg every year but I've missed it both times it has been on since I moved here, might try to get it first before haulin' ass all the way up to Västerås! :)

    3. Buick '55 Special
    4. '56 Chevy Bel Air
    5. '58 Chevy Bel Air

Thanks Alastair :) As a matter of interest, how do you know the exact year of each vehicle? Were the models changed every year back then?

Now that would be an old car!;)

That car was pure oldschool and was very similar to this:

...but it was without any roof or glass. ... driver was like 30 years younger than the car.

Forgot to ask if you were considering to bring the car or to just fly?

If you are planning to bring the car the most direct route is to head across the UK and take the Immingham to Gothenburg freight ferry whilst intended for freight they do take cars but note that facilities on board are limited. Otherwise look at Harwich to Esbjerg and drive through Denmark or Harwich to Cuxhaven and drive or take another ferry from Travemunde to Trelleborg.

If your flying you can connect through Stansted to Västerås with Ryanair or fly direct Dublin to Stockholm Arlanda with SAS.

Sorry for the off topic mods but it may help anyone considering travelling to the show.

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.

Yeah - body styling was changed pretty much every year. The mechanical side of things - not so much.

How many of the pre-embargo cars are left? are they more common than contemporary cars?

Hi. Not normally a poster in the motors forum - but I visited Cuba recently, and got some classic pics! These cars are in daily use in Cuba.

I need to research the makes of these cars. If anyone can help that would be appreciated!

If anyone wants to get some knowledge on American cars, I'd recommend this book. It goes through US production year by year from 1893 - 1994, its packed with 600 pages of photos showing the styling changes from year to year and loads of info on production figures, prices and industry news.

Wouldn't be driving over, would cost me about 20 tanks of fuel over and back. Ryanair wouldn't use as much on the flight! :D

Not a classic as such, but getting rare and in exceptional order for its 215K miles. Even more amazing because it's parked near the sea!

There used to be a 1992 (or around there) Vannette in the villlage. It was like new - just needed a polish. I think the old fella who had owned it from new scrapped it for a new Kangoo. Shame.

Yes - they definitely see more common the contemporary cars.

Travelling around Cuba I noticed lots of classic cars (in various states of repair), lots of Ladas brought in from Russia, and a much smaller number of contemporary cars. The local tour guide told me that most of the modern ones are hire cars, used by tourists.

I've added another few (including one Lada shot) for the interest

PS: Can anyone tell me how to insert the pictures, rather than showing them as attachements?

    Is that a 2dr estate!?!

    Sweet!

When I was working at Plessey in the 80s, we had 50 or so of those 2 door Astra estates as pool cars, 1600 diesels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭Blue850

I think the 91 estate was a 1.7 diesel. did they change from 1.6 to 1.7 when the Vectra was launched in 89?

There were 9 out of the 10 generations of Kadetts/Astras there, only one missing was a Kadett A( ie Oliver from Top Gear) but theres one being restored so all 10 should be there next year.

I recognised the DI roscommon regged Kadett immediately - That car belonged to a teacher of mine in 1981:)

MG is there at a garage, I'm guessing maybe someone wants to restore it but the garage dont have the time to do it..................yet.

My father used to own one SZE 132 as in Kadett A
