Spotted loads more rare and classic cars, but didn't manage to get pictures of them.

They're all on my Flickr account:

Why is it that so many people put on those boot racks the wrong way round?

Original Irish Kildare reg Mercedes SL. Would be interesting to know the history of this.........

..........I think that is Pat Dennings car, of Dennings bodyshop. He has owned an Irish reg'd one for years, least restored it about 15 years ago and currently doing a back one at the mo' !

I can confirm that is the current owner ( of the last 17 years) enjoying what is one of 4 original Irish reg's 600's. I'll be working on it again next week and also seeing another one in Dublin.

Interesting stuff, do you know who the original owners were?

Whats the story with the other one you mentioned, does it get out much?

And what happened to the other two?

Sorry, but my curiosity has been tickled.;)

He's the chap who owns The Thunderroad Cafe, isn't he?

I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years back when he just had it restored. He's a proper classic car enthusiast and a true gent as well.

I know of another Irish reg 600 in Cork, in poor condition though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yes this one was restored by 600 guru Karl Middlehaurve in the US about 5 years ago and is as close as you can get to a new car. It was originally sold through MDL and first owner was the owner of a meat factory in south Dublin somewhere, I cant recall the details.

MDL still own another dark blue one which is looked after by teir ex-service manager Denis Dowdall, who now looks after their entire classic fleet (which includes Irish reg'd 190SL & Gullwing) This may be the blue one that Jack has seen.

There is an Irish reg'd one in Cork, correct, in poor condition according o Junkyard who saw it a few years ago.

The last car, or at least the other one was exported in the 80's AFAIK.

The green one that I drove a few years back, bought/sold by Sport & Classic was repossessed in 2008 fro a solicitor in Dublin who was engaging in dubious practices, current whereabouts unknown, but apparently it has deteriorated in the last 5 years.

The one I hope to see next week is a mint US import SWB, I have a youtube link somewhere which I'll dig out.

Thats a SWB in metallic blue, UK import, nice car, but I haven't seen it in years, only pictures.

What colour is this other one Jack ?

Terry J, one is Light met Blue, its a lovely car and the other one just up the road from him between Shankill and Bray is also Blue. It was for sale about a year back dont think it sold though. A fellow who sells Mercs in Dundrum had it for sale and front the pictures it looked very tired if you get me but was asking big money.

........yes I think I know both of them. There was a Shadow........or maybe a Corniche for sale a few years ago, south Dublin, and in the background was a blue 600 and another scrap white one !

Sorry about the pictures, had to use my phone and had awkward timing on them all!

The second one was in the Electric Picnic staff camping, must've been an old fire engine or something like that, turned into a rolling log cabin. Porch at the back and everything.

The cadillac was owned by a wedding car driver behind my girlfriends house, but he died and left it to his daughter. In 2 years it's never been moved, covered, started. I think it's an eldorado.

saw a nice collection of english reg MGs on Bray seafront at lunchtime, looks like a club tour. Approx 10, including 2 V8s, and a lovely old english white MGA. An Irish reg 67 xx 3litre Rover P5 saloon was parked a distance up the road, didn't seem to be connected to the tour.

thats a 75/76 eldorado which looks like its been given some extra fittings from an aftermarket company, the grille isnt the standard fitting. Its also got an 8.2 litre engine........

If that's the one I regularly see around that area then it's a 100, not an 80.
