    1 IF to 9999 IF is Nov 1973 - May 1975
    The wing mirrors look very JDM-ish, but who's to say if they weren't added to that car at some later stage? Where E25's sold in the UK?

    no not sold anywhere in Europe I think, I'd be fairly certin that the log book for that car belongs to a ke 20 unless it was a personal import at the time. A friend of mine is currently restoring a ke 25 and a lot of searching has been done for bits and bobs, it's a rare car here!

    An Irish reg coupe? I've heard that only 2 or 3 were sold new here.

    One of the most comfortable cars I've ever sat in for a long journey.

    Spotted this outside my neighbours house this evening. Its not his, just someone visiting. Could not believe the condition of it considering that most fiats of this gen just rot out. This one must have been restored.

    .........you couldn't do personal imports at that time.Only motor dealers could import cars then, and its unlikely that someone went to all that trouble pre internet.

    Whats the difference between it and a KE20 ?? Looks very familiar to me !

    Is the rust on the bottom of the doors original as well?

    Said it was original, didn't mention if it was well preserved.

    E25 is the coupe version - the rear end is more sloped and it looks like there's less space in the back than the 2-door saloon.

    For this generation:
    E20 = saloon
    E25 = 1.2 and 1.4 coupe
    KE26 = estate
    TE27 = 1.6 DOHC twin carb coupe (Corolla Levin in Japan)

    We don't know what engine is in that one so it could be a KE25 (1.2) or TE25 (1.4). The first letter(s) in Toyota chassis codes signify the engine, e.g. the current petrol Corolla saloon sold here would be a ZZE150 (4ZZ-FE engine).

    OK, variation on a theme here...

    Was shown this 'barnfind' in Galway on Saturday. Long story short, completely original, dust-covered .....sold, and re-sold and sold again........and yet each owner never used it...........'yoke'........you have to work it out :D

    1978, completely unrestored original, still on original wheels and tyres - 18 from new. Unused for.........oh, gosh, 15+ yrs apart from one sojourn of a couple of miles to a parade, last year........

    So, some piccies. Brownie points for spotting the weird stuff.

    Hope I don't say anything too stupid...

    1st pic:three wipers is odd enough. I have no idea what vehicle it is.

    2nd pic: where is the coil? In the thermostat housing LOL? Or has the lead just fallen out, and is sitting on top of the thermo housing?

    Is that two alternators? Only place I have ever seen two alternator/generators is on a firetruck. Also, what drives the top alternator?

    What carb/s are on it? single SU or something?

    Is it a firetruck, or some sort of emergency vehicle??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭Slidey

    Its a jeep.

    Bottom 'alternator' is the compressor for an old AC system?

    Probably wrong on both counts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,755 ✭✭✭ianobrien

    Right, this is what I reckon

    1. It's a Left hooker.

    2. It's an old design for the age. The poster says it's a 1978. Triple wipers were not common back then. Also, for 1978 the windscreen is very straight (ie not raked)

    3. It's got wide wings. The cars quite wide (triple wipers) but the engine bay seems quite full for a 4 cylinder.

    4. It's not running on McPherson Struts. I can't see them in the engine bay

    5. It's got a short bonnet. Look at the distance from the bulkhead to the rad

    6. There has been some messing with the vacuum hoses (it's missing the vacuum advance hose off the distributor, and the one off the carb is heading where?)

    7. It's a large displacement (judging by the width of the rocker cover) 4 cylinder pushrod engine, of about 2liter capacity I'd say.

    8. The fan belt's interesting. I'd say the alternator is on top, maybe a hydraulic pump at the bottom with a viscous fan at the front (just clearing the water hose)

    9. The engine is either totally or almost behind the front axle. You can see the steering column.

    10. I'll stick my neck out and say it's a Citroen, maybe a DS or something like that (I think that's a suspension sphere I spy at the bottom of the engine bay - EDIT - It could also be a fuel filter, is it mechanical fuel injection )

    No, No, No, No and..........No. Sorry about the HT lead, yep, it's just resting on the 'stat housing - didn't spot that when taking the pic....

    Is it something UK built, BL type window washers, Lucas looking alternator and distributor.
    I like the radiator cap instead of an oil filler cap!
    Is it some sort of kit car built from BL parts?

    If it's a Triumph engine, it could be a Saab 96/99. They used Triumph engines for some of their models
