Just wondering what the interest level is on the boards. I'm an armchair fan and have been from a pretty early age. Any boxers (amature or pro) here? Anyone watching Trinidad vs Wright later on Sky Sports?

I love Boxing....I am trying to get a Forum going if there is the interest. What do you think..?

Did you see the Bernard Dunne fight....he is one for the future.

another armchair fan here , I love the sport and would certainly like there to be a forum for it .

Yet Another... Lets get the forum...

I'd be more than willing to support the creation of this forum if there is more than the 3 of you going to be using it.

    :)

Haven't been able to check the boards for a few days so it's cool to see a few replies. A boxing forum would be great :D

I agree Dub13, Bernard Dunne is definitely a man who is moving on to bigger and better things each year. Training in the US has been a great experience for him, especially with Freddie Roach.

Any of you guys giving Ricky Hatton a chance and Tszyu next weekend? I really think he could pull off an upset though Tszyu is the favourite (with good reason) Actually dreamnt that Hatton would loose by TKO in round 8...

Oh and one last thing. Anyone know if the Tyson vs McBride fight is being broadcast on Sky?

Oh by the way, Bravo are showing UFC 53 on Sunday week. I know not all Boxing fans are into MMA but it's worth checking out.

I would love to see a boxing forum on here.
re: bernard dunne , he's quite a fighter alright but that last fight was very scrappy and even though his punching is quite good there would be absolutley no point in him getting in a ring with one of the top names in the division untill he improves his defence vastly.
the likes of morales ,barrera or paquiao would not have lett him stagger around like a zombie for the last round without knocking him out cold.
still that fight showed us he has heart and if he can shore up his defence and stop sticking his chin out he could become a top contender someday

I do , I think Hattons incredible workrate will force Tszyu to fight at a tempo he doesn't like , remeber he's 35/36 , if Hatton keeps him working for every minute of every round (he can do this , its just ****ing amazing) Tszyu will tire and will quite possibly be knocked out .

On the other hand if Hatton ends up fighting at Tszyu tempo then I would expect a very early stopage . Its gonna be all about who controls the fight .

It's going to be interesting to see how Hatton reacts to all the home support. It could be a real encouragement but then again he might feel under pressure to go for the big punches early on (too early). I guess Hatton is at his best when he's on the attack and Billy Graham will have him well schooled on Tszyu's tactics. It's definitely gonna be an interesting fight...however long it lasts.

Anyone know what the televised undercard is going to be?

Also, any thoughts on Harrison vs Brodie? It's easy to forget about this fight since were all caught up with 'the big one'. It's pretty hard to pick a winner in this one. Scott wasn't on great form in his last defence...but then again how much has Chi taken out of Brodie? To be honest I think Brodie can do it...

Ok lads we need your names down Here if you support a Boxing forum

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

    Done :D

Someone made the point about posting boxing threads in the self defence forum. I think boxing has too much scope for something like that. Besides...gettting paid $1 million to KO somebody isn't really self defence ;)

if we can have a forum for frisbee then we should be able to get the numbers for a boxing forum

    Wow, what a fight

Well done Ricky, awesome performance. My respect for Tszyu has doubled (if that's possible)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

That was incredible !!! , id talk about it more if more than a handful of people were interested . Tszyu could still hack it at top level id say , id rate him above Gatti , Harris and Cotto for now .

Am I right in saying that the Tyson McBride fight is on Saturday night?

Can't seem to find it on any TV station.....Any ideas?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

Yeah, it's on this weekend on Setanta PPV1, Mace. It'll cost you £12.99 or 15.99 euros. The pay per view starts at 2am and lasts for 3 hours. I'm not going to be buying this one though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

I was checking what the boxing coverage is like for the week ahead and couldn't believe what I saw on Setanta PPV 1.

Graeme Earl vs Kevin Bennett, for the british and commonwealth lightweight belts.

Is there anyone out there who plans to buy this? It's on next Sunday, coverage starts at 9PM. Personally I think it's crazy. If the fight was on sky sports I'd watch it, but pay? No thanks.

ya thats a bit crazy , Earl is overated and Bennet isn't great . This will be a very average fight. Whats the undercard ?

Checked the details on Setanta's website. They had no specifics apart from the main event, but here is what they did say:

Three other title fights and a superb undercard back up this show.

You can read their promo here - http://www.setanta.com/content/setanta/website.nsf/page/c4d9caf910cfede98025701f0030d4fe?open&pageid=6b8c2e174528a4e680256e74006a3432&

I think one of the undercard fights is for the English lightheavyweight title Peter Haymer v Tony Oakey. Doesn't sound too tempting to me. Carl Froch is fighting on the 9th of July in Nottingham and I think the same night Junior Witter is fighting That'd be the next British fights I'll be looking out for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

Does anyone know how committed to boxing ITV really are? I think it's great that they're showing these british fights, though I'm just wondering if they plan to pick up a few 'big' fights from the states. Maybe the ones sky aren't interested in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 190 ✭✭snakeater

Yeah that'd be great. Remember when Pacquiao fought Morlaes recently? I don't think any of the channels were showing it.I'd say for the near future ITV will just show British fights and see how they get on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

remember Gatti V Mayweather 26th June and Harris V some average fighter is on the undercard . Sky Sports one at 2am I think and replyed on Sunday at 8:30 .

They don't normally show these fights live but now that Hattons become the king of 140 I get the feeling we will be seeing more live fights of his possible challengers .

Cotto impressively beat Abdullaev earlier this month .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 190 ✭✭snakeater

I hope we get to see Hatton v Corrales. Corrales had a savage fight against Castillio last month, both of them ended up in hospital after it. it'd be great if it was on the same card as Calzaghe v Lacey

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

Sky's boxing coverage this summer is great. So many big fights and all of them for free. Who'd have thought it a few years ago? Guess they got sick of all the emails telling them to get their act together. Good job Sky.

Not sure if this is considered spamming the boards but here goes. For those of you wishing to discuss boxing there's a forum over at Irish-Boxing.com.

    The address is http://www.irish-boxing.com/forum.htm

You'd all be more than welcome over there.

seeing as you only have 3 posts that all say the very same thing and your name is the same as the site , I think it is spamming .

Yeah but the whole point of the two threads I posted in was to campaign for a boxing specific forum on here. I'm merely informing those interested that one already exists on another site if people wish to use it.

East side boxing forums is possibly the biggest boxing forum on the internet which I use regulary but I don't go touting its name around here .

Lets stick to getting a forum on boards first as its better to have all your forums on one site .

Fair enough. Only reason I posted it is there didn't seem to be all that much support for actually setting up a dedicated board here despite the fact that there appears to be quite a few boxing fans posting here.

Just saw Tarver vs Johnson and to be honest I was a little disappointed. Both guys were cagey in the first few rounds and then it just looked like Johnson had run out of ideas. Still, they'll probably do the third match and who knows, it could be a great fight...I'm just not so sure.

Ya wasn't that great a fight , although Gatti V Mayweather tonight  im so hyped up about this fight . Harris is on the undercard aswell .
How id love the fight tonight to turn into a war and 'Pretty Boy Floyd' ends up losing his unbeaten record aswell as taking a beating . Not going to happen though Mayweather will get a UD over the 12 .

Totally agree with you Big Ears, it would be great to see Mayweather pick up his first 'L'. I don't think it'll happen either , although Gatti has the potential to give him a few scares. Hope I'm wrong though. Go Gatti!

    http://www.frankwarren.tv/fw4/mainheadline.php?subaction=showfull&id=1120222994&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&

Now unless you can get UTV terrestially or you have NTL/Corus or have FTA cards then you won't be seeing any fights promoted by Frank Warren for a while .

Sky will most likely to continue showing the big American fights but all I can hope is TV3 do something radical and pick up the fights too , but that isn't going to happen :( .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

    Wow...I'm shocked...

I was just thinking, maybe Sky will use the extra money to buy the rights to some more American fights? Although Skys coverage has gotten alot better, we missed Ruiz v Toney, Brewster v Golota etc. It was interesting to note Paul Dempsey was plugging Skys international coverage on Friday. I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed. Does anyone know what Sky plan to do with regards to their lack of fights for the next 2 years?

I presume we will just be seeing more International fights on Sky , maybe I should pick up a cheap sateleitte for the TV that doesn't have Sky , then id have UTV , C4 and possibly C5 which I don't have any of now .

Let me just check. Are ITV showing all their fights for free? On their site they specifically mentioned showing big fighters such as Hatton. For a guy that just got onto PPV last month he can't be happy with the ITV arrangement? Unless I'm missing something...I heard rumors of him leaving Frank Warren (before the ITV deal was announced) Is there any truth to that?

Hatton will definetly leave Warren if Warren can't get him some more big fights . (this isn't news reports or anything this is from interviews I have heard with Hatton while talking to SKY after fighting yet another nobody) Up until the Tszyu fight was announced Hatton was becoming impatient with Warren and he was obviously frustrated . It would be weird with Hatton not being on PPV in the UK but any big fight (Corrales , Mayweather , Cotto) will certainly be PPV in the states .

Wayne McCullough's chin...amazing. I think the doctor made the right call (and Wayne himself addmitted it) but you have to feel bad for the guy. At 35 I don't think there's much more he can do, though he's well connected and may still be involved in boxing. A true warrior.

If only he had a punch to go with that granite chin he would have been a top top fighter

Time to stop now Wayne, too many beatings

I honestly beleive his chin would be good enough for a top middleweight (which is about 40 lbs heavier) his skull is twice as thick as a regualr persons but its not just a chin that keeps you upright . He has been hit with some ferocious body shots in his time but has never hit the canvas . The man is the definition of tough .

Any thoughts on the IBF ordering a box off between Wladimir Klitschko and Samuel Peter? As poor as Wlad's chin has been of late I don't expect a repeat of the Corrie Sanders fight. It's good to see fighters earning a title shot for a change...

I actually favour Wlad by to UD Peter or win by late TKO . Peter has got some very ruff edges skill wise and once Wlad doesn't let Peter back him up and unload he will win . The WBC have also ordered a box-off for Peter , against Samil Sam . Unless Wlad doesn't want the fight I think he will go for the IBF one .
