I'm sure this has been done before, but i'm bored and wasting some time before an exam.

I followed a link on the PhantomFM webpage to the forum in November 2001. I didn't venture far outside that forum, and it was a few years before i realised there was worthwhile time to be spend on other forums.

And thank Gord i found this refuge.

I aint complaining but I've been doing pretty much buggery all at work for months now and no one seems to care so Boards really helps me through these hard days

Essently Im getting paid to read boards.ie

Seriously, its an invaluble resource for all sorts of stuff, ranks next to google for me at this stage.

    Thanks to the founders :)

Boards.ie to me is a bit like going through puberty, I know it happened but I'm not quite sure when.

I was on an ign.ie team fortress classic server in 1999 some time (when boards resided at cloud.ign.ie and some uc galway adress too I think) and someone on the server pointed me here (might even have been the message of the day on the server now that I think about it).

I was in a summer course called CTYI and someone else told me about the board - it was ages before I realised there were other pages too though! Well, I knew they were there, I just didn't think they were worth looking at haha

Knew about it from playing Quake when it started in 1998, but never registered until 3 1/2 years later. Didn't want to be one of those guys with thousands of posts and nothing to say...

I can't remember. Possibly through someone on the Eurogamer.net forums.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

I was told about it sometime in 2002 as it was the place where LAN parties were organised. Eventually signed up in Jan 2003 and made a tit of my self with my first post in the CS forum :/

    Oh well...

I've been going through phases... sometimes I wouldnt look at boards for months, while others it seems I cant get away from it...

I haven't been given out to yet, so i'm presuming he hasn't been reading my posts.
But i did still flick through new members from around the time he stopped posting one day when i was feeling bored & paranoid!

Someone asked me too "sign" an anti-eircom petition, then soccerboards took over my life in 2002 for a bit. Weird, I don't even like football much now!

It's a rather complicated story involving a scheming evil SyxPak, several crates of cheap beer, an ill-considered wager, and for some reason I cannot ascertain to this day, fifteen yards of network cable attached to a modified dildo.

I posted under a different username back in college, can't remember who told me about it (around the '99 - '01 time), left college and had no access to proper internet, only at home on a 56k.

Then I stopped working in a particular job where I had no internet access, and while I was job searching I came back to boards, on my join date.
    <

I got a job where I have internet access, then got dsl at home, so am a regular. Then I subscribed, and here I am.

    Ta-da!

Was reccomended years ago, forgot, got mentioned again, forgot, got influenced into signing up, forgot about my account and (honest to god) saw it scrawled on a toilet seat in a cinema in Cork and it encouraged my irrepressible urge to tell you all what i think of the forums.
