    I think a lot of the people here need to stay home for a bit and study a bit of geography. It is strange the places that people think of as being countries. Then of course we have people saying they have been in both the north and south of Ireland. Has nobody here been in the east, midlands or west of Ireland? I am from Dublin and if I am ever asked if I am from the north or south of Ireland, I always answer that I am from the east. Of course the most northerly point in Ireland, Malin Head, is in the so-called south! So it is no wonder some people are confused. :)

    I live in Scotland and people regularly ask me if I'm from "Northern or Southern Ireland".
    I'm from Galway but if I said I was from the west they would ask if I was from the west of Northern or Southern Ireland.
    Therefore I always say I'm from "Southern Ireland".
    It's easier that way!

    By the way I've been to....

    Ireland (North and South)
    USA
    Wales
    France
    Scotland (where I now live)
    England
    Italy
    Czech Republic
    Spain

    Get out your atlas people :rolleyes:

    The Isle of Man is a country with it's own parlament and is NOT an official part of the UK.
    It's classed as a "Crown Dependency".

    The Isle of Wight is classed as an English county.

    Still the United Kingdom though so you're both correct

    I've been poring over a world map for ages now trying to make no. 20, but it's just not happening unless I count Scotland, wales etc separately, but I do think that's cheating. India next year should round it off for a while , I'd say :D

    [EDIT - Hold the front page:

    20 Switzerland!

    Yay! /EDIT]

    According to dictionary.com;

    "Britain" and "Great Britain" include Northern Ireland (I personally disagree - it is a US dictionary though)
    "Northern Ireland" = A division of the UK...
    "England" = A division of the UK...
    "Wales" = A principality of the UK....
    "Scotland" = A costituent country of the UK...
    "Ireland" = A country occupying most of...
    "Gibraltar" = A British colony...
    "Isle Of Man" = An island of Great Britain (...) an autonomous possession of the British crown.

    I lost a boardgame years ago - the question was States that begin with the letter D - others said Depression, Disappointment, Delaware but I wasn't allowed to use Denmark. "Denmark is a country not a state". I even quoted Shakespeare but was shouted down. Still bummed at that :(

    Thank you. I'm half welsh and I get so pissed off when Irish people try and tell me that Wales isn't a country... like they actually know the history of Wales. Half of them spell it with a h. Being a principality is a technicality, do you actually think the Welsh think of 'Prince' Charles as their figurehead? Did you not see what happened when he arrived at the Welsh Grand Slam party in the millenium stadium? Give me a f*cking break.
