    Shock horror- Superquinn appear to be flogging the bargain of the year here.....

    Its a "Digimax" portable DVD/MP3/CDR/DVDR+ player with a 6.5" TFT screen.
    Comes with S-Vid cables, rechargeable battery and also a car adaptor.

    Its only 99 Euro- I saw the exact machine in Superquinn before Christmas for 239 Euro. I'm guessing they are just clearing their stock- but its bloody good value for a portable machine.

    They have about 20 of them in Superquinn Lucan, not sure about other locations......

    Shane

    Nice one, could do with that right now with another hour of work to go, think I might be heading to SQ tomorrow before another evening of endless internet surfing occurs!

    Any photos of this by chance mate?

    Is it one of those fold up ones? Sort of like a mini-laptop?

    i bought one there just before christmas. Very same spec as above and make is Digitrex. Must say it is top class. It even has inputs into it also. I use it as a dvd player for my sons bedroom when not using it on the move. I paid €199 for it mind you, so if it is €99, its a steal.

    Here is the full spec of the one I got:

    * CD, CD-R, DVD, MP3, Video CD
    * 6.5" 16: 9 TFT LCD Resolution 480 (RGB) by 234
    * Composite output/input, S video output, composite input
    * Two channel down mix output/input, built-in two-channel stereo speakers, headphone jack
    * DTS/AC-3/PCM coaxial output
    * Audio 24 BIT/96KHZ. VIDEO 10 BITS
    * Slim Card IR Remote Control
    * Parental Rating, OSD Language selection, auto power off, NTSC/PAL Switchable, OFF/ON switchable, A/V output/input switchable
    * Machine size: 190mm x 155mm x 29mm (W.D.H)

    And I have also uploaded a pic for you also. By the way its also multi region straight out of the box.

    Muti region - thats brilliant. Will be beating down the door of Superquinn tomorrow :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭irishbigfoot

    Nabbed two of them yesterday in Lucan Superquinn- MULTIREGION from the box as well! Tried loads of different Region 1/2/3 DVD's to make sure it didn't set it on one region and they all work fine.
    Correct spelling of brand though is Digitrex (PD-650) in case anybody is looking for specs- looks like the player can play nearly everything with the exception of DVD-R/-RW (Box says DVD/CD/CD-R/RW/DVD+R/+RW/MP3)
    Website at link below says it can handle WMA files as well- don't have any on a CD to check out but it does JPEGS and Kodak disks without any problem.
    Picture can be located at this link
    Digitrex PD-650

    Forgot to say that Superquinn Lucan is open till Midnight.....
    Sorry Mon-Fri and not this Mon as is bank holiday as smccarrick says below.

    I can confirm that it will play DVD-R/RW. And yes it does also play WMA's.

    Does it include the cases for the players. Mine did not, but they were on sale at the time for something like €6.00

    how does the power work? no batterY? you have to plug into mains at all times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭irishbigfoot

    Didn't come with the case's and didn't see any in Superquinn- had a quick look in Argos and didn't see any seperate cases. Where did you see them?
    Would be handy since I will be bringing them with me to the States on holiday in an attempt to keep the kids quiet in the car on the long drives...

    Player comes with NI-MH battery with seperate input for charger so it doesn't have to be plugged into the player in order to charge it.

    Just off the phone to the Waterford store who could not confirm the €99 price which does not at all surprise me as often a flyer would come in the door advertising something on special offer and when you would go out, they would have no knowledge of the offer.

    By the way they have none of the portable dvd player remaining in Waterford. They were all sold @ the €169 price over the last week or two

    Just bagged one in Superquinn Sutton. They seem to have quite a few left. Open until 6 I think. Northside S.C. is closed in case anyone is thinking of going there. Beautiful little machine and a lovely slim remote control. Thanks for the tip!

    I just took 3 of them from Superquinn Sutton. They had 9 left at 5 O'Clock today. They said they sold about 50 over the last few days so yous had want to hurry!

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭CuppaCocoa

    My friend went at 5:30 and took another 3! They said they had only 3 left then. Probably gone by now. Best bet to ring first in the morning. they're very helpful and might put one away for you if you give them a sob story! Also bought a cd micro system as an impulse buy for 30 yo yos. Not bad, 2 band radio, neat little system. Will do my Mum as a replacement for the crappy portable one she has in the kitchen. Happy Easter to us!

    If you copy and paste the image url it works.. Must be something to do with angelfire not letting people hotlink images or something.

    Superquinn in Blanch village had a dozen or so remaining yesterday around 11am.

    The TFT didn't look great though - rather poor colours and a lot of pixalation (?) – I wonder if its any good wired to a telly?

    What kind of battery time can be expected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

    Manual says 3 hrs, but could vary based on brightness and volume setting etc. 5.5 hours to charge fully, and will last for 300 or so recharge cycles.

    I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it, they've been running out in all the stores, at this stage you'd be lucky to get one.

    I'm keeping two of them because it works out nearly as cheap as buying a spare battery pack and replacement power supply. Besides, it makes a great spare DVD player for the house hooked up to a TV. I think these prices are in Aussie Dollars:

    http://www.digitrex.net/Product-Detail.asp?ProductID=61&CategoryID=18

    I would be a bit concerned about finding a spare battery for this player in a couple of years time. That link is the only one I could find and they're in Australia. I reckon though that inside that battery pack there'll be standard rechargeable batteries in it. I went to open it to find out but there appears to be screws under the 4 pads which I don't want to rip off cause I can't really glue them back on afterwards. But if anyone else decides to have a look, let us know what's inside! Also if anyone finds a decent carry case to suite them, let us know.

    It seems to play all the major file types (except avi) and through folders etc.

    Just after seeing now, it appears to be also known as the Apex PD650 which is all over Google.

    Would anyone be so kind as to pick one of these up for me? I'm living in Galway and according to their website the nearest location is Dublin. Please?

    I would, of course, transfer the cash ASAP (before you buy).

    Anyone have any idea if there are any left in the SuperQuinn in Waterford, or is it just wishful thinking :D

    The going price is now Euro 149 apparently, for a 6.5" mobile player. You can pick them up at this price in Spectra among other outlets. I'm thinking SQ Waterford is wishful thinking!
