Bulmers light (the only calories are from the alcohol).

    Wine.

Vodka/Whiskey/Rum/Gin with a low-calorie, non-aspartame based mixer (like Diet club orange/lemon, though I haven't seen it in pubs unfortunately). I used to sneak in Diet club orange, or sneak in "Dietrite cola" which I got off www.lowcarbmegastore.co.uk .

Guinness - its good for you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,084 ✭✭✭✭Stark

They had the same slogan for mars bars and Coke.

Theoretically stout is meant to be relatively low in sugar (about the same as Coors Light), but Guinness is quite a sweet stout, and can be higher in sugar than beer depending on where it's brewed.

Drink makes you fat...FACT! If you don't want to get fat from it, the only way is to cut back on it, or cut it out all together (scary i know!!) But if you insist on getting pished..a mate of mine used to be a professional swimmer...so their body weight percentage and crap was measured, so he just drank shots all night and shot+soft drink in between. My advice: Take up a cocaine habit...it's better than being pi$sed, and doesn't go straight to your hips.*

*may cause loss of job, all funds, friends, devider thing in the middle of your nose, possibly highly addictive also.

What you want to do is get a liebeig(Sp) condenser Heat to 78 degree and drink the liquid that come out the end, pure alcohol

Surely drinking a shot followed by a soft drink would be the same as drinking a short with a mixer?? Also, I heard that guinness had 2-3 times as many calories as most lagers, but less sugar? And that cider was very bad for trying to lose weight.

I think the 'ol vino might be your best bet.. or vodka + diet coke/diet 7up.

I haven't been drinking anywhere near as much for the past year or two, and have found that I've not lost any weight as a result of it.. the beer belly is still there, only now I call it a food belly. :)

I think it'd be fair to say that if it doesn't fit into one of the following categories, you're set:
    * Alcopops
    * Anything served as a pint
    * Anything you see a fat person drinking in a bar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Most people will say a short + a diet mixer, but in reality spirit measures are less potent than a pint (and easier to drink), so you'll just end up drinking twice as many, negating any "betterness".

Just keep a count on your beer intake, and try and cut it down. If you want to go out for a beer or two one night, or after work, cut down elsewhere - don't have a dessert, don't have that mars bars wiht your afternoon coffee.

The biggest culprit is getting sloshed on a Saturday night and ending up in the chipper and spending a tenner on food that you definitely don't need. Have a pint less to maintain your self-control, and try get a pint of water in just before you leave the pub, to fill you up.

Well, in all honesty- a straight whiskey without mixture might be the way to go.

    A 1fl oz serving of 80% proof Whiskey/Vodka/Gin/Rum = 64/65 calories
A 1 pint serving of regular beer (not brand specific) contains on average 175 calories.
A 1 pint serving of Guinness contains 187-190 calories (marginally more than beer)

Drinking, in itself, does not make you fat.
Drinking in excess, while bad for you, does not make you fat.
Consuming an excess of calories over and above those you burn, will normally result in the excess being stored as fat.

A rough and ready rule of thumb is that an average guy requires 2550 calories per day, and an average woman requires 1940 calories per day. Depending on your body type and your level of activity- you may require more or less.

    Drink sensibly.

    S.

No the max you get is only 95.6% :(http://www.chemguide.co.uk/physical/phaseeqia/bpcompn1.gif

    http://homepages.ius.edu/DSPURLOC/c122/dist.htm
Occasionally, mixtures of liquids called azeotropes are encountered. These mixtures mimic the boiling behavior of pure liquids. When they are present in specific concentrations, they will distill at a constant boiling point and cannot be separated by distillation. Examples of azeotropic mixtures are: (1) 95% ethanol-5% water (bp. 78.10C)

As others have stated Alcohol is a food , and like other foods provides calories. So unless you drink so much that you vomit or so much spirits that prevent your body obtaining nutrients form other food you eat you will need reduce your food intake or exercise to balance the extra calorific intake.

Just order a diet soft drink and munch some celery.

Best low calorie drink - Martini (Dry) and Slimline Tonic! It's a nice drink for a change!

Avoid all the alcopops and beer!
Spirits are all ok - if you mix them with diet mixer.

I think cutting out all fizzy drinks is the best bet for loosing weight!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭Blub2k4

Shots of vodka with a mineral water chaser, that way you drink the water as the long drink and when the it comes time to order a new water you get a shot in, that slows you down on the shorts. You will also hardly ever get a hangover from this combination, even better if the vodka is ice-cooled and in a chilled glass.

i presume your taking the piss, those things are about 80% sugar. i'd go with a hot toddy - the warmth means it mixes with the blood much easier and so you have to drink less before you get blairy eyed.

Yep. Plus the fact that alcohol slows down the metabolism.
    It's scientifical -

Oh, fair enough.. but then that just means he is drinking two shots (at around a fiver a pop in city centre) and a diet soft drink.. meaning he will be pissed in no time, and it will cost a fortune. I think he wants something he can drink while socialising over the night and still get something out of.

Drugs are never the answer, unless they are drugs prescribed by a registered medical practitioner and purchased from a registered pharmacist. Even then they may not be the answer. Don't really want to get into a drugs debate though, as it is off topic and there are many people here who are pro-drug, whilst at the same time being unaware of the problems which drugs can cause in society. Drugs are not big or clever, and if this guy wants to socialise down the pub, he cannot take them anyway.

I'd rather put on a few pounds from the beer than suffer a stroke or depression/other mental disorders. ;)

ye i think its more the chipper after the night out rather than the drinkin! sure just go dancin and that'll burn of some of the calories! then afterwards if ur starvin, just get a bag of chips. i noticed that i started gettin the belly after switchin from chips to battered sausage, quarter pounder, garlic cheese chips and garlic mushrooms! now ive gone back to chips! hehe the things u eat when ur buckled!

Perhaps you should do some research on regularly drinking alcohol, the social problems it can cause and its associated health risks . It is very much a "drug".

Just because your mammy does it, doesnt mean its any more or less dangerous than any other recreational drug.

    umm what he said^^^
And while were whining about drink putting on the pounds, maybe just maybe your eating crap?
Chances are if you buy it in a shop and its got plastic on it, Thats probably the origin of the weight. Also Im not sure but dont you need to be consuming Oils or fats in the first place for calories to be stored, Ie calories dont matter a damn if you just eat foods with a low fat count?.

While oils and fats may be higher in calories than carbohydrates or proteins- fat is accumulated from an excess of calories- regardless of the origins of those calories. A lot of "low fat foods" contain startling amounts of sugars and salts, and would normally be considered quite unhealthy, but for totally different reasons. There is a misconstrued conception that if its "low fat count" (or more to the point, lower fat content) that you can eat those foods to your hearts content. This is nonsense. All foods should be eaten as a part of a balanced diet, and as required by your body, not your impulses. There was a nursery rhyme that went along the lines of:

What a wonderful bird the pelican,
Its mouth can hold more than its belly can......

oh my god such intelligence for this time of the morning!

Greasiest and yummiest thing to eat at 2am in the morning - curry chip butty with mayonaise and onion or a shish kebab (from Zaytoon, Dublin city centre)

As regards alcohol - I think alcohol puts on weight full stop! So if you are serious about losing weight - join a gym, unislim or weight watchers! I lost a stone in weight watchers (and had it off for a year and it crept back up - but I'm back to watching my weight again) Its terrible to have to watch what you eat isn't it? :(

well, weight is not going to just magically disappear by drinking less alcohol... exercise is the real solution and it doesn't take much at that! Go for a 30 min jog 3 or 4 times a week and keep to a well balanced diet.
Then you can stay on whatever drink you like and dont go too crazy! Keep it to once or twice a week... make yourself a designated driver one of the nights, excellent way not to drink and no one can put pressure on you to have one then!
