Heavy mix of hail and snow here at the moment.

Temp could rise to 5 or 6 c by the afternoon so don't be counting on more snow except in heavy showers, temp got up to 2c here but has dropped back to near 0 again probably thanks to this shower.

well I woke this morning and went down for breakfast and looked out at a normal wet type morning, then there was a heavy hail shower. Turned on the radio and to my disgust hear reports of snow all over the place! The ever effective snow shield in the Lusk area is still working!

yup this snow seemed to hit south Dublin, north and mid wicklow.
The m50 on the 1pm news looked very slippy.
Lots of roads in wicklow very slushy still.

Well just to update ye-the wind has veered northeasterly along the East coast now which could spell a little trouble as theres a lot of showers out on the Irish sea.
Some of them have came in here giving mini hail storms but snow is possible in the heavier ones definitely on higher ground.
They look like hitting anywhere from Dublin south to wexford.

Incidently, this is the 12th day in a row that snow has fallen at some stage during the day at the London weather centre-parts of Kent have had up to 6 inches today so far as has northern France, reflecting the colder pool of air around that area.

High pressure should dampen down our showers in time for the w/end

No sign of any mild weather returning in any model I've seen by the way and there seems to be plenty cold attacks in the offing out in the 5 days plus.
They are only indicative though, but its not looking good for springtime given that none of them have any hint of south westerlies, it all coming from the north or the East...
Some stuff does run around our high to the west bringing temporary mild air from time to time with rain via the north-but as it passes through , its back to square one again and the borderline rain hail sleet or nighttime snow scenario.

Hell i dont pick the good times to have to go some where

    What a day :D

Woke up at 7am and noticed something white outside the window :D
Ran over to the window and found that there was a thick layer
of nice snow formed by heavy snow hail if one could call it that and
it was still chucking it down. Needless to say i ran down stairs in
a dressing gown and ran out into the snow, there was around 2-3cm's
of level snow totally blanketing the road :D It was proper a snowfall
not like the other falls this year :D As i knew time was going to waste
as i had to go on work experience at 20 to 9 :( I quickly got work
at building my snow man :D

The most amazing point was when i was rolling up my snow for my
snowman there was a loud bang and it thunder and lightning started
it was about 3-4 miles south or even less i counted around 2 seconds
    in between lightning and bang..

Anywayz it was great my sister had to turn the car round in Portmarnock
village as it was an ice rink.

So then i went to work and when i entered Malahide there was no snow
Just 1 mile back at my house there was 2-3cm's no exaggeration!

So after just arriving home all that's left is a little thawing few patches
in the garden but gladly my snowman still has 2/3 of its body left :D;)

Best weatherr day in years :D

First appreciable snow since 2001 :D

Those showers are hugging the coast, one or two have made it as far as me falling as hail.
Temp is 5c which is what it stuck at all day.

AirTemp out in the Irish sea 6.2 c
    Temp at Dublin Airport 6c

Too warm for snow on the coast, ok for hail though, at the moment if you like hail.
Very windy here and Dublin, that will have to die down if the Temp on the coast is to drop like it did last night

Just got home from work and I see that there is still snow in the front and back gardens and also on my dads car. Little snow drifts at north facing walls too. The snow must have got mad heavy after I left for work at 06:45 this morning. There was already a slight covering when I left this morning but it was quite heavy during the thundersnow as I drove through the Phoenix Park although it wasn't really sticking. Weathercheck, how heavy was the snow and how deep did it get this morning (I'm in Baldoyle)? Considering the temp is well above freezing all day with a fairly strong wind, I was surprised to see so much snow still lying!

it seems Portmarnock was worst affected from this mornings
shower and your area as it's only a wee trip across..

There was around 2-3cm's of lying snow everywhere this morning and
in the little area in my driving facing northeast drifts to 8 ir so cm's ;)

The accumalated snow consisted of small hail..

Beefy shower to my east heading bang slam into Dublin
probably slipping south of here but the anvils are tall
    and beautiful :D;)

An shower ro vicious heading for Dublin :D

    Orange and red echoes

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,153 ✭✭✭highdef

Just about to mention that shower. Appears to be two separate cells. And My God, they are huge. Some lucky people (Earthman maybe!!) look like they'll get that. I see the planes are avoiding it too. Planes appear to be coming up parallel the east coast before turning in very close to my house!!! Must be an active storm all right. And my car got it's first proper chance of using the traction control today - I had some great fun in the empty car park at work 1st thing this morning!!! :D

wind is direct northerly again though
The worst of those are going to stay out at sea

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

The planes seem to be going around the south of the storm..
just seen one flying right up from way out south usually the
flying in from the east over Portmarnock village ;)

She's a coming with grey and whity orange.. she's beast
    hopefully she'll deliver a punch :D;)

She's gonna affect here anyway Earthman by the looks of things ;)

She's coming over me now ;)

Earthman - This thing is heading straight for Dublin. I can see a wall cloud out toward Howth. It's dropping quite low. New cell popping up to the NE, heading for us I do believe Weathercheck  Actually it looks like it'll just miss us

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,153 ✭✭✭highdef

I think it's just gonna miss us herre - South Dublin should get a battering. I'll be checking the traffic cams on the Dublin City website shortly. Looking very black over Howth now!
