Chemistry: Compliments of Caoimhe: Chemistry experiments were the clove oil one, the bleach titration and the Le Chatelier one. Do all three. Watch out for the method of extraction of the emulsion, its called solvent extraction. In the titration know your experimental detail really well - like why you add in excess KI, why you use sulphuric acid instead of HCl or nitric acid, etc. Make sure you know your calculations, you need to be able to get the %age of hypochlorite in bleach.
One of the questions is oxidation and reduction (balance a redox equation etc) and electrolysis. Another was based on Atomic Theory - who did what, the periodic table, etc. There was a full question on Stoichiometry so be able to do questions involving moles, grams, stp, etc. Know your organic stuff, its really easy to get high marks on those questions (there was a half question on the infra-red/ultra-violet spectrometry afaik). Can't remember much else but if you've most of the course done you'll be grand.

ok heres some random info that might help some people....

in my particular higher level art history, there was no specific question on impressionism, surrealism or cubism (the three i had done >_<). however in the "describe a painting that falls under one of the following..." question there was one on war, one on a landscape and one on an upright figure, so anyone out there like me who only did the more modern art movements should be ok with Picasso's "Guernica" or most of the impressionist stuff.
section three i did art exhibition question - you are asked on access, lighting, relevant technology and placement among other things.
section one there is a nice question for anyone who did manuscripts - tracing development from book of durrow to book of kells. theres one on the really early stone carving too.
for anyone who did renaissance, baroque etc sorry i didnt even look at those ones on the paper :(

also if anyone gets the higher physics paper that i did - its the one with ohms law, joules law, snells law and conservation of momentum on section A, look out for the conspicuous lack of a section b question on electricity (obviously the applied electricity option is there but no current electricity as such). in question 10 - particle physics, definitions of the hadron and lepton are asked.
be careful with these as giving quark compositon, relative mass etc will get you precisely nothing according to the marking scheme. you must talk about the fundamental forces to get your 12 marks (these 12 marks personally cost me an A2).

thats all i can remember, i hope it helped someone a little.....good luck

Ok, my higher level Biology paper today had the following:

    Section A

Giving the names for a couple of definitions - it wasn't on a particular topic, but it was pretty easy

Match words with each other - not on a particular topic either, also very easy though so don't worry about it

    Question on the nitrogen cycle

Question on the digestive system - name the labelled parts, name an enzyme produced by the pancreas and what substrate it affects and what product it makes, state two functions of the liver

Question on DNA crosses - South American honey bees or something, three variables are their eye colour, wing shape and their leg shape - you're given their genotypes and you have to state their phenotypes, work out what percentage of their offspring will have red eyes (showing your working out) and write out all the possible gametes what they can produce. You also have to be able to define linkage and gene locus (I think?) It wasn't a hard question though.

Question something to do with nephrons and kidneys

    Section B

The experiment with the immobilised enzymes, be able to give an example of how that could be used and know the basic procedure. You'll also need to know which tests are for which nutrient (for the part a) - Benedicts, Iodine and the Copper Sulphate/Sodium hydroxide one

The experiment with the extraction of DNA from an onion. Know the reason for every step in the experiment, because thats what most of the question is. The part a requires you to name the base pairs of DNA and state two differences between DNA and RNA

I can't remember what the other experiment was, cos we haven't done it!

    Section C

Question on ecology, can't remember what it was about though because I didn't answer it

Question on food - know two minerals needed in trace amounts by the body, and a function and source of one of them; name and state the function of a fat-soluble vitamin; name the three types of carbohydrate and give an example of each one; state two functions of lipids in relation to cells; give three reasons why living organisms need water; briefly describe laboratory tests for starch and lipids

Question on reproduction - what is male infertility; give a cause and treatment of male infertility; draw labelled diagram of male reproductive system and mark places where meiosis occurs, sperm are stored, seminal fluid is produced and where testosterone is produced; name three hormones that affect the menstrual cycle, say where the gland they are produced in is found and give one effect each of them has; name a menstrual disorder and a medical treatment for it

Question on genetics and stuff - three parts, answer two - First part has an article about cloning, you have to state three advantages and disadvantages stated by the article and then have to explain a couple of terms; second part was all about mutations - what is a mutation, give two possible causes, how does it give rise to alleles, then briefly give an argument that supports the theory of evolution; third part was about mitosis and meiosis - what is the difference between them, draw a diagram of a plant cell undergoing the metaphase of meiosis, uggghhh I can't remember the rest of it

The next question was something to do with non-endospermic seeds, naming different parts of it, I can't really remember. Thing is, we were given some replacement questions on stuff we had covered in more detail, so I didn't bother really reading some of the questions because I didn't have to do them

I think I'm the Dublin Commision set or whatever they're called - my higher English paper had reading comprehensions on water and reality TV, and the Hamlet question was on Claudius. My higher Irish paper had comprehensions about Europe turning into America and the Kennedy family - if you had these papers too, chances are you'll get the same Biology paper as well
    I hope that helped somebody!!

Can anyone please tell me what was on irish paper two? I did paper 1 today and my comprehensions were about "no ordinary women" and aiden mcgeady.

Okay, here's the questions I picked from the mock I got:

Q1: Parnell, Butt and the general journey of Home Rule until the failure of the first bill.

Q2: The Civil War - The Causes, Course and Consequences

Q3: Franco-Prussian War - Just know the little passage they have of it in the book (provided you're using the European History book I am) and know the consequences and **** and you'll be fine.

Q4: Hitler BEFORE World War II, 1933-39.

Q5: Special Topic. Or alternatively I did an essay on Michael Davitt.

Okay so if anyone has any more hints or even the paper of the Physics mock exam I would love it. If you have the paper scanned and can email it to me, pwleggo@gmail.com is my addy. If not then any hints are MUCH appreciated. It's either that or learn the book in a space of two days...
