Hi All, I hope someone can help me out. Sorry if this is not the correct board. I would like to have a go at having something published. It would really only be of irish interest. Does anyone know where I can find a list of publishers?

http://www.writerscentre.ie/centre/publishers.htm <-- list here, though it's not complete - I would suggest checking out the section on Irish publishers in the Writer's Handbook 2007, which will give you details about what kind of stuff each publisher is looking for and what their submission process is like, etc.

Also might be worth your while checking out the Irish Writers' Union - http://www.ireland-writers.com/

I run a monthly PDF magazine for absurdist writers and I'm looking for nonfiction article submissions. Can I post a call for papers in the main area here? Is there a more appropriate place to do so?

    Thanks

Well a more appropriate place would be to start your own post but I think that this forum is fine for what you're looking for...

    Basically, you can't.

Ask myself or BEAT nicely, explaining exactly why you want the change, and we might do it for you.

How do i go about changing the title on a thread i posted? the edit icon seems to disappear after a couple of days.

I sure would appreciate it if you could change the title of my thread 'for all you haters out there, meet party jack. chapter 1 of the book' to simply 'Party Jack chapter 1' because the long intro is hindering people from finding it in searches and on your main boards.ie page.
    Thanks.
    Best
    Jack

ps. i asked the same question in another thread coz i hadn't seen your reply, sorry bout that, wasn't pestering

Just out of interest, if an individual posts a story up here, does that mean that that individual is by contract giving up the rights to said story? Let's say that the story is great and worth publishing etc does an indivdual being anonymous as such give up their work? Or is it the sole intellectual property of the poster ie if someone else used it outside of this forum to gain profit how would said indvidual prove that the work was their own. Just curious.

You can post just as you did here, and tell people they can send you a pm for more info ;) do not include your personal email address in the post or links advertising other sites. ;)

    Hi,

I've written a feature-length screenplay which is Dublin-based. I was wondering if anyone had a list of production companies that accept original work in script format?

    Thanks

    hi everyone,
Just did a creative writing course a few months ago and i have wrote three short stories about 4000 words each, i entered one into rte competition.
I think there really good (but i would) and i would like to know if i have a talent or not.
So i want to know if it would be worth sending to an agent or to a publisher.
Do they normally take short stories or would it be wasting their time.
    Any advice really appreciated.
    Thanks

For short stories you really need to submit to magazines, competitions, anthologies, whatever yourself - agents/publishers don't normally take on short stories (you possibly might have a chance with a collection of short stories, which are quite difficult to sell anyway, but before you can even think of that you need to build up a publication record; most collections like those have a whole list of 'previously published in...' at the beginning).

Lately I've been thinking I'd like to write a comedy sketch show and maybe even have a go at filming it. I know a few film students. It wouldn't be exactly high budget or anything but we could throw something together.

I'm just wondering what the next step would be if I wanted to pitch it to a tv station. I don't really know how to go about doing something like that and am wondering if anyone has had any experience in the area...?

hello all. I noticed that in http://www.shantaram.com/
in 'The Novel - Author Notes' has some guidelines that may be of interest to aspiring novelists. P.S.: the book is very good!

    Hello,

Im not sure if this is the right place for this question. I would like to learn how to proofread and copy-edit. Has anyone taught themselves to proofread and subsequently found work, and if so can you recommend any books that would be useful? Alternatively, has anyone done a distance-learning course in this area that they could recommend?

Hi people, I've been given my first college assignment in the form of a character analysis. What would be the ideal 3rd level way to approach this?

Any tips would be most appreciated.

I've done a few bits on scripts. They're like normal fiction, but can be a tad tricky until you get the hang. Check out http://www.museoftheworld.wordpress.com for ideas, also many other items on wordpress are pretty good for this. I realise boards dont like links, but, hey...if the net nazis kick off again, well...its back to the good old bbc for me.

Boards loves links. Blatant pimping/advertising is what gets slapped around the face.
