"I hope these bastards leave some of the enemy for me. That damn crazy lunatic always rushes in first."
Vollbart knew that the enemies and the remainder of his own team were completely blind in the smoke. What the enemy couldn't know was that Vollbart had quite exceptional vision, and night vision. That allowed him to at least make out shapes in the smoke-ridden area. And that was more than enough. Vollbart armed himself with his two combat knifes. He always carries two, one in his shoulder holster and another one tied to his leg. After swiftly sneaking by the blinded enemy he emerged behind two of the remaining Tau troopers and stabbed them both in the back of their necks at the same time. He also gave the knifes a little twist to make sure the wounds inflicted sufficient damage. "That should make them sleep for eternity," Vollbart thought with a big grin on his face.

    Combat Turn One: Engineering

    Lemming:

All reason lost, Arkerius keeps stabbing at the corpse on the floor until he sees outlines beyond the smoke screen. His bionic eyesight makes out the thermal images of a number of figures running toward the room. They appear to be running blindly in. Of course, the subtleties of this are completely lost on him in his frenzied state, and he simply charges headlong into the nearest, blade striking at the neck of the unfortunate. The poor human has no armour, let alone knowledge that he's running straight into a knife, which is exactly what he does. The momentum of yourself and the attacker knock you both prone as you crash into eachother, but the Tau Auxiliary stays down, clutching at the spurting wound and the knife up to the hilt in his neck (That's right, you are now unarmed. :) ). As you are getting to your feet another human, near blind in the smoke, trips over you and lands heavily behind you, and a Tau, wearing helmet sensors and much better able to see as a result, steps up smartly and stabs at you, but misses. You are flanked.

    Thegogz:

Jarred's whimpering is getting on your nerves as you casually snap out a wicked looking knife from your belt. Maybe the anger will help you in the fight. Only one way to find out. As if on cue, a small squad of both humans and Tau charge through the smoke. You see Arkerius take one down with an absolutely savage stab to the neck. The rest run on, and you find yourself face to face with an armoured Tau wielding a slightly curved knife that looks incredibly sharp (Think a Japanese wakizashi and you'll have an idea what it looks like). He makes a slash in your direction, but the charge left him off-balance, and you dodge it easy enough. You can dimly make out another approaching attacker behind this one. Better dispatch the alien quickly, before you're outnumbered. (You will be flanked in two turns if the first attacker is still alive)

    Qwertz:

You dart silently over to the doorway and position yourself just inside as the smoke wafts through, concealing you from anyone coming in. You carefully wait for the first troops to charge through- It wouldn't do to get surrounded at all- And the final figures (one Tau, one human) run through, pausing for a moment to get their bearings in the confusion of the smoke and whirling combatants. That pause is all you need to casually step up behind them and strike both at once. The human has no chance, the blade sliding effortlessly between vertebrae, severing his spine and killing him instantly. The Tau, on the other hand, through a combination of helmet mounted sensors, some small neck-protection and blind luck, suffers only a flesh wound as he half dodges, half turns around on a hunch. Blood begins trickling through the slash in his neck armour, and he screams something alien at you as he jumps back to a safer distance in an agressive stance. Looks like you'll have to do this the old fashioned way...

    Combat Turn One: Generators

The charge detonates in a sloud of flying razor edged shrapnel, completely shredding the officer's unprotected face and piercing his armour in a hundred places as he takes a full quarter of the blast. The guard to the left of Argeus is knocked off his feet and sent flying and bleeding, while the one to his right staggers backwards a little, taking a not insignificant amount of damage. The two remaining aliens were running off to search for Raphael, so they take no damage. They do, however, turn around and run back to the source of the noise.

    Raphael:

You hop out of the spare coil, landing lightly on your feet and adopting a fighting stance as The two remaining Tau arrive back. They both look at the situation, surprised. They turn as you hop out. Then, surprisingly, they bow slightly, drop their guns, and pull out large combat knives of their own. One of them heads cautiously towards Argeus, while the other charges straight for you. He aims a series of thrusts and stabs at you, but they miss or you manage to dodge.

    Argeus (by proxy):

The weak dithering fool gone, Argeus arrive back at his senses just in time to see the shredded body of an alien officer fly past , clipping his shoulder to land in a bloodied heap behind him. Two more aliens appear from behind a generator, arm themselves with knives, and attack. "You will suffer!" he screams, as he grabs his chainsword and switches it on to full power. He charges straight for the Tau, weapon raised and screaming hymns of contempt and revulsion...

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Arkerius screams with frustrated rage at loosing the grip on his knife. He manages to evade the Tau's stabbing motion and grabs at his wrist before the blade can be pulled away and pulls the Tau forward to make it fall. As the Tau falls, his other hand connects with its mid-riff in a brutal uppercut. Just before his fist strikes home, the computer spike flicks out to skewer the alien.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

Raphael froze in almost complete shock as the Tau bowed to him, but broke out of his stunned reverie when he was charged. He felt the blade thrusted towards him and managed through some combination of skill and sheer luck not to be skewered. Seeing his oppurtunity, Raphael flipped the blade so he was holding it backhand, then grabbed at the Tau's right arm, then drove his knife arm forward in an attempt to hit to dislocate the Xeno's shoulder.....Fething hell he hope the thing had a shoulder joint

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭thegogz

A slight smerk appers on domincuses face as he watches the tau lunge towards him. After dodging the initial attack from the tau dominicus grabs the back of the taus helmet to get some extra leverage as he jams he knife as hard as he can into the gap just below the base of the taus helmet.

"Always the hard way, Tau scumbag. You will pay for your incompliance, bastard!" With that Vollbart launched at the Tau trooper, his remaining knife tightened safely in his hand.

As the turn starts, you all hear emergency alarms going off, and someone speaking in Tau language over the ship's intercom. You have no idea what was said, but it's a pretty good bet that you're actively being searched for now!

    Combat Turn Two: Engineering:

    Lemming:

You grab the arm and pull the Tau off balance so fast he is rendered helpless for a second (A critical success!), and punch him viciously in the ribs with your extended uplink spike. The tip manages to find a weak spot in the armour (Another critical, you lucky bugger!) and slides straight through the warrior's ribs up to its full length. The Tau spasms violently and then goes limp. Unnoticed, the human behind you has now gotten to his feet and attacks. It's a half-hearted attempt, though, because after seeing what you did to the last couple of opponents he doesn't really want to get close to you. Nevertheless, the point of a crowbar finds its way to your right shoulder. Arkerius screams, more with anger than from feeling any actual pain in his deranged state.

    Thegogz:

You grab the Tau's head and ram the knife at his neck. At the same time, though, he manages to slash at your extended arm (Decide which hand your knife is in. The Tau hit the other one). You almost let go with the pain, but you hold on long enough for the knife to connect solidly, punching a deep hole in the alien's throat. He staggers backward, spraying foul-smelling blood and making gasping sounds. He's dying on his feet, but he doesn't seem to realise it yet. He launches himself back at you, this time backed up by the attacker previously mentioned, a human with a large wrench.

    Qwertz:

You slash viciously at the Tau, and catch an armour jount (A good attack roll). You open up a nice gash on the Tau's left arm. The arm goes limp and he drops his knife (Yes, you cut a tendon). With a scream he punches you in the face with his good hand. You reel backwards, and the Tau hooks his dropped knife with his foot and flips it into his hand before charging at you again.

    Combat Turn Two: Generators:

    Raphael:

You see an opening, and a nimble sidestep and grab secures his arm and throws him completely off balance (I'm rolling a lot of criticals today! :) ) Your aim is off though, and you strike him in the gut. He retaliates by grabbing the very hand holding him, and twisting in some fancy way you haven't seen before, and all of a sudden you're the one in an armlock. The Tau know takes this opportunity to smack you in the face with an armoured knee. You're sent flying on your back, head spinning. And if the bowing earlier wasn't odd enough, the alien just stands there, waiting for you to get back up. About this time, you notice that his knife looks highly ornate. You get a sinking feeling as you recall how champion fighers back on Tanith were sometimes awarded beautifully embellished weapons...

Argeus Roe (Once again, by proxy), however, cares little for the twisted honour of the blasphemous foe, and cannons straight into his opponent with his chainsword (An all-out attack, for anyone interested). The Tau tries to parry, but the whirring sawteeth smash right through the knife and bite deeply into his shoulder, nearly severing the arm in a spray of ichor. Argeus strikes again, this time at the torso, and the weapon glances off armour with a shriek. He strikes again, and this time he finds a gap in the plating, and the saw sinks into the poor Tau's gut, ripping out organs and killing him. Argeus is having none of it, however, and keeps at it, angling the sawblade to carve off most of his chest. Just to make sure the filthy alien sinner is dead, you understand...

[Sarky] The fighting is nearly over. Now that you're being searched for, speed is of the essence...[/Sarky]

"Alright, this mother is tougher than I thought!"

With no time to waste Vollbart charged forward, feet first through the alien's legs, grabbing his enemies ankles to make him fall flat on his face. With the Tau trooper temporarily disabled Vollbart launched himself onto the confused alien's back and victoriously wrapped his own hands around the poor soul's neck.

Snap. The Tau trooper was no more.

"Success! Let's get the hell outta here," he shouted towards his team.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Arkerius howls with rage, the crowbar hit barely even registering, and rolls to his feet and spins around to face this new assailant. He eyeballs the human auxiliary wildly whilst human & tau blood drips from his face and left arm, a few entrails sticking to his now saturated clothing. Time seems to slow as the auxiliary recoils in horror. Arkerius screams with absolute animal instinct and lunges at the auxiliary, both hands clenching around the shocked man's shirt-front and pulling him forward whilst Arkerius brings his head forward to deliver a brutal headbutt

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

Raph lay on the ground, studying his opponent. "Feth," he muttered. "I ain't gonna beat this guy. Not with a knife anyway.."

Raphael pulled himself up onto one knee, breathing heavier than he needed to. He slipped a grenade from his bandolier then clicked once, setting a short fuse. Then he lept to his feet, knife raised and the grenade shielded with his body, and charged the Tau.

At the last minute however, he clicked the grenade armed, then dived to the side, sroppinhg his knife to cover his head

Once Argeus was sure that the scum that now covered his feet was truly eradicated he turned his eyes to the next abomination.
    "DIE, XENOS SCUM!"
Argeus bellows before charging at the startled Tau, chainsword held high. As Argeus reaches the Tau he launches himself in the air, preparing to come down on the xenos spinning chainsword first.
"I AM THE EMPORER'S WEAPON AGAINST THE ALL WHO WOULD SULLEN HIS GLORY! I WILL PURGE THE XENOS, CLEANSE THE HERETIC, CAST OUT THE DAEMON! THEY SHALL KNOW HIS FURY AND THEY SHALL KNOW MY RIGHTEOUS BLAAAAAAAADE!"

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭thegogz

Watching the tau stumble he brings a swift boot up to meet the tau in the stomach and push him backwards, hoefully knocking him directly into the approcahing human. Once they are off balance using his large size and muscle Domincus charges them with the shoulder of his hurt arm with his knife held backhanded in the other ready to slice any flesh he sees.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

    Combat turn 3- Engineering:

    Qwertz:

You snap the Tau's neck like a soggy twig, taking note of the fact that Tau bodies are really quite frail underneath the (admittedly excellent) armour. Close combat is a real weakness for them if they get hit...

    Lemming:

The terrified trooper has the time to scream once before his face connects violently with your forehead. A vicious headbutt by any standards, the metal plating in your skull and bionic eye only adds to the damage. There is a spurt of crimson, and the scream changes to something between a sigh and a gurgle, as the man collapses, his nose and upper jaw smashed.

    Thegogz:

You do indeed manage to kick the Tau into the way of the oncoming human. The Tau however collapses from his wounds and the human jumps him easily, bringing the wrench across in a swing at your face. You try blocking it with your injured arm, but it's no good, and the makeshift club connects solidly with the side of your head. Everything starts spinning, and your vision goes blurry. The attacker raises his weapon to finish you off, when you hear a familiar explosive sound behind you, and all of a sudden your opponent explodes from the sternum up. Looking behind you as your head clears, you see Jarred letting go of the trigger to your heavy bolter.

Your last enemies down, Vollbart heads through the thinning smoke towards the doorway as the rest of you pick yourselves up. A walkway leads straight out for 10 yards, ending in another doorway (The room you may recall the captive Jarred mentioned). Halfway along the walkway, a stairway leads downwards towards the core of the ship's engines, bizarrely shaped monstrosities glowing with heat and power, walkways and elevators around and even through them, encased in shielding designed to look like stained glass windows depicting a battle from somewhere in the Imperium's vast history. The whole place looks like a small cathedral, and this is exactly what it is. The machines, the controls, even the walls are engraved with prayers and images depicting the glory of the Machine God. You may all be traitors or heretics, but you are all very much aware that this is a holy place on this ship. Even Arkerius, so full of bloodlust, can appreciate the scene. Well, if he can be persuaded not to attack the rest of you.

    Combat Turn 3- Generators:

    Raphael:

You dive away, dropping the grenade at the Tau warrior's feet. He is obviously quick witted, and gets halfway to diving flat when the explosion lifts him upwards and smacks him against a generator railing. He is stunned and bleeding, but gets back on his feet. He turns at the sounds of screaming behind him, knife raised, and the last thing he sees is a spinning chainsword dropping towards him, propelled by a frothing maniac with murder in his eyes. Oh well, you can claim you softened him up for the wacky preacher, at least...

    Zounds:

Your sword arm fuelled by righteous zeal and burning hatred for the alien (As well as a nice little runup :) ), you bury your chainsword in the Tau's head, splitting him in two almost down to the hips.

Gathering your bearings once more, you return to the bay door generator. It still bears the blinking error message "Error- imperfect coil alignment. Remote recalibration required." The guys in Engineering better be alive, it's a long trek on a ship full of enemies searching for you...

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Arkerius follows the falling human auxiliary's limp form to the ground, half falling, half jumping on it mid-air. Upon thumping into the ground he grabs the auxiliary's shirt and pulls his head back up for another headbutt, delivering it with a sickening crack and an equally sickening thud as the back of the auxiliary's head slams back into the metal deck-plating and splits. He then straddles the prone (and probably most likely dead at this point) man and repeatedly punches his face again, and again, and again. Without retracting the computer spike.

Within moments the man's face is a bloody pulped mush and the deck & componentry surrounding the scene is slick with blood as Arkerius howls with bloodlust, wide-eyed with a gleefully sadistic smile on his face.

Cyrel starts to laugh. Or at least Arkerius is fairly certain it's him. He sounds a long way off and probably slaughtering some poor unfortunate for the thrill of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

    "Ahem....Thanks Padre"

Raph got to his feet, then the flashing screen caught his eye. "Error, imperfect coil alig-ment? What the fething hell does that mean??"

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,726 ✭✭✭qwertz

"Wow," Vollbart whispered after taking in the breathtaking surroundings. "These Tau are tough as hell and they can build alright." After making sure that the area was secure, well, as secure as it could be on an alien ship, Vollbart turned around and wielded his sniper rifle in Arkerius' direction. This split-personality maniac should be locked up in a loonie-asylum and the key thrown away.

"Path cleared! Don't forget to bring the traitor along."

    Engineering:

The party gets about 1/2 way across the walkway to the other control room when gunfire starts peppering the grating beneath your feet. Another larger squad of Tau has taken up position directly beneath you and is shooting at you with everything they have. You make a mad dash for the safety of the room (Everyone recieves another 2 points of damage from running through a blizzard of energy blasts). When you get inside, the firing pauses, and you hear the sounds of troops running up the stairway outside. A squad of Tau appears and makes to run towards you, but an ominous creaking from the walkway causes them to pause. The walkway lurches suddenly and gives way, destroyed by the earlier suppressive fire. Most of the squad fall with the walkway, but those at the edge manage to make a running leap for safety, and two end up hanging by one hand from the remains of the walkway just outside the room you occupy. Against the odds, they still managed to hold on to their rifles. They begin pulling themselves up. You find yourselves wondering if the other two had things this bad...

    Generators:

The generator warning lights continue to blink in a mysterious fashion. Perhaps getting on the comm-link to the engineer might provide some insight (*cough*subtle hint*Splutter). Argeus shudders again in what Raphael has come to recognise as another loony taking the wheel. When he regains his composure, Argeus blinks timidly at the bloodied, scorched trooper beside him and flinches, screaming "Oh God-Emperor, please don't kill me sir!"

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Arkerius, splattered in gore and still halfway gripped in the thrall of psychosis makes a running charge at the two figures trying to haul themselves up from the ledge of the walkway and lashes out with a boot to the face of the nearest as it climbs up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

"Oh feth, not again" said Raphael, burying his head in his hands. "Look, however, or whatever you are, just don't touch anything" Raphael wandered over to the lights and spent a few minutes examining them, hands held behind his back so he didn't "accidentaly" brush anything. Eventually he stopped, and spoke into his vox-bead.

"w..w..w..what??" Argeus' face displayed confusion and fear along with a peculiar child like innocence
    "Mister, am I dead?

Vollbart swiftly dived for the entrance, his combat knife in one hand, rifle in the other.

With his rifle pushed against the the left Tau troopers head Vollbart says "How's it hanging, guys?" Vollbart pulls the trigger on the rifle and starts working on the other fiend.

Chop, chop, chop, and the fingers of the right Tau trooper were cut off...

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭thegogz

Taking up position behind his team mates Dominicus aims his heavy bolter at the edge waiting for one of the tau to manage to pull themselves up. If they do he'll fire if they don't well they don't and his teammates have dispensed of them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

    Engineering:

    Arkerius:

A series of nasty kicks to the face of the unfortunate Tau knocks him off the platform. He falls with a yell and lands badly on the floor below, where he thrashes about, screaming in pain for some time. His back is probably broken.

Of course, standing as you are in plain view of the squad below, kicking one of their friends to his death, they open fire on you. You get clipped by a couple of rounds and one solid hit to the midriff, and you're down. Not dead, but nearly unconscious and in a pretty bad way. You'll be fine with a bit of first-aid. :)

    Vollbart:

You have a much easier time of it, as you hit the floor and slide along to end up with your rifle jammed in the other Tau's helmet visor. The force of the shot destroys his head and sends him flying backwards like a limp ragdoll.
Unfortunately, due to the frankly ridiculous amount of firepower being levelled at Arkerius beside you, you also take a hit. Perhaps it's poetic justice for what you did to the traitor Jarred earlier, you think, as a shot blasts a hole in your knife-arm the size of your fist. You drop the blade as your arm goes quite, quite limp and you mercifully lose all feeling in it (Decide which arm it is yourself). The wound is cauterised, so at least you won't bleed to death. :) Arkerius crumples beside you, nearly unconscious, and you hear a burst of static in his earpiece and what sounds like Raphael's voice.

    Dominicus:

The two grunts are quickly disposed of by the others (it's worth noting that watching Arkerius getting riddled with enemy fire brings back one or two amusing memories from past campaigns :) ), but you (luckily, I might add!) notice another couple of troops trying to peek out inconspicuously from the room you just left, obviously attempting to draw a bead on you and the guys. A quick squeeze of the trigger and a hail of explosive shells clips one of them and forces them to duck for better cover.

Guys, your position is getting pretty unpleasent!

    Generators:
Very little happens, I'm afraid. The Tau you just killed bleed a bit more, lights on consoles continue to blink, and the shredded Tau officer's comm-link occasionally crackles with static and alien language...

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭thegogz

Watching Arkerius fall to the ground Dominicus shouts "Hey Vollbart Keep an eye out for enemies trying to make minced meat out of us. I think our comrade needs some help" Dominicus then picks up his first aid gear moves over to Arkerius and gets to work bringing him back to the world of the concious making sure to keep out of sight of any enemies.Turning to Vollbart Domicus with almost a smile on his face announces "He doesn't seem too bad should be able to get him up and about again then I can have a look at that arm of yours"

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Arkerius drops to the gantry walkway with searing pain coarsing through him. His attempts to will his body to move simply don't work as he feels his senses overloading with pain. Darkness. Light, hazy and faint.

He can hear Cyrel screaming and howling with frustrated rage. Screaming at the Xenos. Screaming at Arkerius. Screaming that he'll kill them all.

Arkerius moans, dimmly aware of static in his earpiece, watching everything go into what seems likebslow motion as he sees Volbart get hit, and the sound of Dominicus' heavy bolter spitting shells, hearing each round his and buzz like an angry hornet in slow motion.

He feels hands on him. Eye sight quite hazy and dim. Dominicus kneeling over him. Pain. Cyrel screaming with bloodlust.

Raph tapped his voxbead with his finger.

    "Hmm....no answer. Guess they're busy."

The demolitions man leaned against a nearby bulkhead and began playing with a lighter

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,726 ✭✭✭qwertz

"Thanks for patching me up, laddie," Vollbart said to Dominicus. "It's all in the head, all in the head...doesn't work today." Fortunately shock settled in soon after the Tau's projectile hit Vollbart's left arm and took away most of the excrutiating pain. After his arm was patched up Vollbart went back into a prone position to make sure that there were no more surprises, at least not in the next couple of minutes.

"Damn freak, somebody's gotta straighten you out for good. We can't spare any time to guard you and your split personalities." Vollbart activated a comm-link to the other team since Arkerius was in another realm again. "Raphael, Argeus, come in. What's your current status?" Vollbart spoke into his microphone. "They are probably just sitting around doing nothing as ususal, lazy bastards."

    Engineering:

The barrage of Tau blaster fire lightens up abruptly, and troops move in to drag their wounded from the area where the walkway collapsed. There are still several large guns trained at the opening, but it's more suppressive fire than anyone actually aiming at you. They want to get their injured out of the way.

    Dominicus:

You manage to drag Arkerius and Vollbart out of the way and start working on keeping both alive. Vollbart is pretty much fine, apart from an arm that won't work (the shot vaporised a large chunk of muscle), but Arkerius is in a very bad way. It's easy enough to patch up the bleeding from shards of red hot metal being blasted off the walkway, but There's only so much a field medic can do, and the ex-technoseer is pretty shot up. (3 hitpoints left, for the sake of rules) He won't be able to run, and even walking will require help from someone. A few adrenal shots to keep him conscious, and a sedative to calm him down and numb the pain, and he'll survive for a few more hours. After that, he'll really need a full infirmary...

    Vollbart:
You can't use your injured arm. Dominicus patches it up well enough, but it'll need proper surgery to repair. Heh, or a full bionic replacement, but who'd waste such precious technology on a worthless criminal? Still, your other hand is fine, and shooting from the hip has never bothered you before. It's all a minor setback, when you're this close to getting out alive.

    Arkerius:

Everything is going dark, sounds getting fainter, you're losing feeling in your limbs. You reckon you're probably dying. On the edge of hearing you think you can hear a choir singing praise to the Emperor, and fancy you can smell incense. So you ARE dying, and this is the afterlife. Then suddenly you feel a stabbing jolt in your heart, and searing pain floods your body, as the adrenal shots bring you back. Another needle stabs into you, this time flooding you with a vaguely numb, comfortable sensation. Whatever they put in those painkillers, it's... nice... You feel very weak. Looking down at your torso and glancing at the technical readouts from your bionic eye, you're not surprised. But you feel very lightheaded and in good humour about it, and a stupid smile creeps across your face. You hear Raphael and Vollbart in the comm channel, and start waving and calling "Hi, Raph! What's up?"

    Generators:

The radio chatter from the equipment of the dead Tau is getting a bit more frantic, but nobody seems to be coming down to inspect things yet. Raphael's conversation with Vollbart starts getting interrupted by Arkerius, who sounds really, really drunk. He sounds quite jovial too, which is a nice change from screaming psychotic bloodlust.

Argeus looks around blankly, eyes all misty and lower lip going all wibbly. :)

"Hey Jarred I've got a few things I need your help with. First the guys at the generators are getting some message about misaligned coils do you have any idea what that means and how to fix it? Also, can you show us how to restore power to the generators? and is there an infirmary in this fething place?"
