😂 when he was in Haganah or the army? I’d say thousands if not tens of thousands, by hand or by order.

The single significant precedent is a case from nearly 40 years ago, in which Shin Bet officials were accused of covering up the execution of two Palestinian militants involved in a bus hijack. The high court of justice allowed the president at the time, Chaim Herzog – the father of the current president – to issue pre-indictment pardons in the circumstances.

This underhanded move by a tiny minority of DCC members should be a wake up call. I know it's only a name, but shows how a determined minority, or vanguard if your into that thing, can steer social discourse when apathy reigns.

Much as I condemn Israel and warmonger Netanyahu for the atrocities meted out on Gaza, this idiotic proposal is just one step too far - and does indeed show that there are those in Dublin City Council who seem to think that renaming parks etc. is more pressing in importance than the housing catastrophe in the city, the recent decline of the city centre, appalling public transport, rising crime and many other issues urgently requiring attention.

Anti-semitic grandstanding that will benefit absolutely nobody and only engender more hatred and division.

Virtue Signaling nonsense. Maybe if the park was called Benjamin Netanyahu park you could understand it but this is just nonsense.

An important point (and sorry if I've missed someone pointing this out already, it's quite a fast-moving thread) the park was named for the then-Israeli president in the wake of the Oslo accords, when Palestinians were offered a state and there was a lot of hope that they would take it and that there could actually be peace. That's what Chaim Herzog was being honoured for in naming the park for him: an Irish man who had (it was hoped) helped bring about lasting peace with a 2 state solution in the middle east.

That that subsequently failed was not Herzog's fault, and that is the version of Israel that we should be honouring. Ireland is just validating the worst of the Israeli far right by "cancelling" someone who represented the closest Israel ever got to giving the Palestinians a state.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians and others died whilst he was in the army and when he was in the Knesset.

How many he murdered himself is unknown. Though the the IDF have a lot of form in extrajudicial killings, murder, rape and pillaging.

So, you're saying that protesting against Genocide and War Crimes is now "social discourse"?
