it comes with a prefitted frost stat and a permanent live terminal

but its quite common around my area not to see them wired in usually on replacement boilers

Evening folks, So update on my original issue/ concern - The thermostat on the boiler itself is working as intended, we checked it Saturday and to "speed up" the process of checking unplugged the pump so what wasn't circulating and after a short while the boiler did shut off. So peace of mind that it is working and next to work on getting a room thermostat set up

Any suggestions with regards to this would be welcome. Appreciated the replies and I learned quite a bit about the thermostat which is always good.

Which stat is working, the control stat which you said originally wouldn't shut down the burner at 60C, or was it the hi limit stat that had to be reset?.

The only explanation so as to why the burner never cut out is that the boiler output is less than the heat emitted by your 8 double + 1 single rad.

The very ancient boiler was a wood pellet burner. It had assorted items which required a permanent live supply - along with a switched live. The wiring is partially underground and probably nearing the end of its life. This may be similar to situation of original poster.

Anyway, the wiring will be replaced (overhead, conduited) tomorrow.
