I stopped using ebay to sell goods for exactly this reason. Ebay and Paypal quite a few years ago changed their dispute resolution policies heavily in favour of the buyers regardless of the circumstances.

Too easy to be scammed by buyers claiming item not as described or never being received then opening a dispute.

Paypal is great as others have mentioned for maintaining anonymity during transactions (mostly).

Suddeutsche Zeitung says payments worth in the region of 10bn euros have had to be blocked, after PayPal's fraud-checking system failed. PayPal's filter system did not work properly on Monday, resulting in unchecked direct debits being sent to banks alongside legitimate ones. Shares in Paypal fell 1.9% on Wednesday
