Only in Ireland does a 9 year old child have to ask for gloves on a summer morning due to cold, windy weather while cycling his bike🫣

Anyone notice how hazy the sky is today? We've had showers on and off but it should be clear blue skies between showers, instead it's a milky haze, watery sun. In a, westerly flow, that's unusual surely?

Well done appledrop . There was 11.4mm of rain in 1 hour in Casement at 3am. Nearly 20 percent of its monthly average in an hour!! Ended up being 24mm from last night there.

14mm fell here near Tralee yesterday evening and just 0.2mm today. Breezy and only getting up to 14.8C and down now to 12.8C

Up in Limerick today , a few showers on the road , very windy around the Shannon on the coast road with some distant heavy showers. After a dull morning nice and bright this afternoon and a nice bright fresh evening.

Winter can still hang around in June. It's going to be like last year. Maybe a bit wetter. Still signs of higher pressure midmonth. Until then green cold snot.

After what looked like a showery day in Dublin(looking out an office window), the latter part from 4pm was dry. Had the ole jumper on when went for a walk in the city after work.

Back in Meath and the sun has an orange glow again similiar to this morning.

    LOL @appledrop

Pauldry I was saying on our contest page we might not get a dry day until Sunday, we'll now that's not even certain it's mad!

I live near the airport so I can look up the hourly forecasts, I will keep you all updated.

At least we are all back in school, creche work tomorrow so you don't mind the rain as much then😁

A high of 11c in the west and north west

    Tomorrow

A mix of sunny spells and showers tomorrow, with cloud increasing in southern areas later. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, coolest in the west and northwest, with a moderate westerly breeze.

    Feels very cool this morning

They will all be freezing in the exam centres this morning as the LC and JC get underway.😐️ Still, maybe the sun will shine when they finish their exams if summer might come later.

The only thing defining seasons in Ireland these days is daylight. Weird to have mid teens in December and a very short day. But low teens in June and a day that goes on forever. I'd gladly trade some of that light for a bit of heat.

Yeah it was, I just checked the 1st of December and it was 12/13c. Mad when you think about it.

isn’t the weather “always good” when the exams are on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,132 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

I’d rather be freezing doing my exams over the former personally. Makes me focus better.

Both my JC and LC were during poor weather, most notably my LC was during the June 2019 atrocity when we had 3 days under 12C as a daily high temperature in Dublin. I was blessed then the weather improved as soon as I was finished with a decent though never amazing or exceptional few weeks through July.

most years yeah Leaving Cert week is 20 to 25C and sunshine but not this year! Same happened of course in 2020 when the amazing Spring spell of 2020 broke on June 2nd and that was curtains on the rest of summer that year (at least for Ireland).

As for the rest of June well it looks like we will have a cooler than average first half of June in the bag at this stage but what happens from mid June onwards remains a great unknown. charts want to try and bring high pressure and warmer temperatures from mid month but every day we get a few runs like the GFS 0z that keeps us cool and unsettled right to the end. More model runs needed.

13.1C here near Tralee this morning and feeling cool without any direct sunshine, cloud cover but no rain yet, could get damp /wet at times here in the SW during the afternoon and evening and some more persistent rain overnight from the slow moving occluded fronts. Time for some wood working projects in the garage!

Little bit of electrical activity off an active shower in the N near Strabane.

I'm due to work at the Beyond the Pale festival site next week in Glendalough Wicklow, I hoping that the weather gets a bit warmer when I'm camping in the field next week.

strange? Dublin Airport only got 6mm and I got 9mm. Such big differences over a relatively small area is normally associated with thunderstorm activity but there wasn’t any and this was just a standard Atlantic front albeit an unusually active one for the time of year.

Rain in Galway and the temp is showing 9.5 degrees bloody cold for June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭goldsparkle

Is that the end of the sunshine now? Was that it a few weeks ago for the year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

apple weather says temps will pick up by next thursday, I hope so because current weather conditions are pretty unliveable, can’t plan anything in the rain & require a few extra layers

GFS 6z is an improvement from 0z for long term from 13 June onwards. Fingers crossed this holds.
