We have finally reached meteorological summer now that the epic spring of 2025 has passed us. Will 2025 be similar to 2007 or 2011 and spring was our summer for the year or will nature be a little kinder with more high pressure around the corner? Getting off to a mixed start anyway..

A very active front inbound tomorrow afternoon. Gusts up to 100km/h on west coast with heavy rain

I sometimes worry about the amount of sleep sryanbruen gets with those amazing dawn to dusk photos all over the country.🙂 An amazing Spring which will live long in the memory.

Sunny start this morning. Spent all day yesterday fighting nature and weeds. The growth was amazing. Time for some golf...

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

What a wonderful start to the Irish summer. Why would it start off any other way than with a yellow rain warning.

currently watching Gavs Summer forecast, and his forecast matches 2020 the most with 10 hits, not a good sign for this summer!

Infact his analogues mostly matches some real stinkers of summer such as 1990, 2007, 2009, 2024 with 2020 the leading analogue year/summer.

Not a good start to summer, very windy here in Dublin, already two very heavy showers and another on way!

Now when the sun appears for 2 mins feels grand but unfortunately not appearing often.

Finished watching Gavs summer forecast and he's going for a mixed summer with a better chance of hot and dryer conditions as we move through the summer. He mentioned 2020 alot as that is the leading analogue year but he said that summer had some very hot conditions particularly in early August, for us in Ireland I don't remember any warm or hot weather that summer. England had several plumes that summer which from memory had absolutely no impact on Ireland. While he is predicting a mixed summer he reckons this summer will be about 1C above average and not as poor as last summer. June is likely to be quiet unsettled but opportunities in the second half of the month for something more like summer.

Given he's based in Northamptonshire, he will be biased to England in his memories of particular seasons. And there it wasn't a particularly bad summer as it was for many of us in Ireland. Plenty of thunderstorms (one of the most thundery summers in modern memory), short heatwaves and heat spikes. The August 2020 heatwave brought the most 34C days to England since 1976 which is so strange to happen in a random heatwave in such a random summer.

For us in Ireland, I've expressed many times my deep burning hatred for summer 2020 because of just how much cloud it had. It was also extremely wet and windy. I mean, look at the anomalies and sun totals for Irish stations in summer 2020. Doesn't inspire much.. it was every bar as bad as the summers people talk crap of from the past in my view, just a little warmer given the times we live in. July 2020 especially dismal.

Whilst summer 2025 is highly likely to not be as good as spring was (obviously), I hope it doesn't deteriorate to a disaster as much as 2020 did after the legendary spring with a bit more usable weather in store. Even if it does, my expectations are rock bottom.

On this day, back in 1962, the lowest air temperature for June was recorded

It was -3.3°C at Clonsast, Co. Offaly

Today, the provisional lowest air temperature recorded was 8.8°C at Oak Park, Co. Carlow

a fairly noticeable temperature drop over the past 2 hours here in Meath, was lovely and warm in the morning and early this afternoon but it feels very chilly out there now despite the sun still shining.

I think by the looks of things that June 2025 in Sligo will be remembered as WINDY. Looking at my app the calmest day in the next 10 has winds gusting 40kph and even when weather improves further into forecast the NW stays breezy.

Not looking as wet as when I looked yesterday and even a lot of sun here today maybe 7 hours but wind ruined everything.

Early in the week but that's a lot of rain showing up for next Friday/Saturday.

Yesterday was the typical good summers day for me, the kind I remember from my childhood. Big fluffy white clouds, sunny spells, no rain, a nice breeze and bright until after 10pm. Thoroughly enjoyed a round of golf and went for a long cycle in the evening. Great drying weather too.

Things have been pretty good in South Wicklow all weekend, much better than I thought it would be. A few light showers Saturday and Sunday but nothing worth mentioning really, and plenty of sunshine and warmth here too. The only real complaint I'd have is the wind, it's been pretty breezy making it a bit unpleasant to sit out at times.

The rest of the week isn't looking too bad here either after tonight, Friday and Saturday looking showery but seems to be downgrading on each run.

Finally a lovely summer days! Great few hours out in park.

We had very heavy showers Saturday & Sunday here in Dublin.

There was some wait in park for ice cream van today but he was saying he was quiet yesterday due to all the showers!

Day 2 of wind here. Rain for month only 2.4mm so far but will be into double figures after today. Sky news had a lot of rain going through the centre of Ireland on their forecast so I'd say Galway and Mayo will be wettest n maybe SW. We in Sligo will just get rain every day and wind with no real large totals and temperatures of 13c or 14c. Not as warm as Spring was.

Oh its very windy here aswell Pauldry but we are just happy it's not raining!

I know its coming this evening but that's alright.

Got up pto 17.2C here near Tralee and currently 14.8C, after a brighter and at times sunny first half of the day increasing cloud and wind this afternoon but dry up until a moment ago, just starting to rain, great day really pottering around the garden doing a few jobs.

Thankfully a dry day here in Meath and mildish but very windy, some garden furniture sideways on the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭appledrop

That rain is coming Gonzo but luckily it won't be until evening time for us.

Our back garden is usually very sheltered but not today, the 3 year old is amazed at things flying around and blaming the ghost😁

Just shows how much we all differ on what constitutes a "great day." Can't argue with science but real feel and perceptions differ a lot. I'd say my location is very close to yours, Meteorite58, but more town side, and for me the day up to 4.45pm was just ok. Passable enough but you would expect better on June 2nd, even here by the Atlantic.

All gone south now though. While the rain had been threatening since lunchtime, with ominous clouds and wind, it did stay bone dry. Then very suddenly at 4.45 the heavens opened. Down for the night now so blinds will be down early in this house and a good netflix chosen.Thank god for Netflix 😊
