It’s a good move for Kelleher I think. He’s a promising goalkeeper. Slightly over rated by some Ireland fans and Irish Liverpool fans I think. He’s 26 and has 25 career league appearances, 67 appearances for Liverpool total. It’s a small sample size. Also important to note he’s played in front of a pretty great back 4 most of the time too, in a very good team. Has made a couple of mistakes for Ireland. Hope he kicks on now, nice to see him out playing regularly.

I was against him being Irish keeper while he was on the bench but he got a decent amount of league time this year and done quite well. I'm pretty certain he is better than a lot of keepers that will be playing for decent Champions League sides next year.

Martinez only started being a number 1 keeper at 27 and safe to say he's been brilliant for Villa and Argentina, albeit the last few months.

I'm sure Kelleher will be fine.

Looks like wages are the problem. Chelsea only picked up half his wages during his 10 month or so stay. £5m is about half his wages for that time, so effectively United get back the £5m salary they paid Sancho when he was gone.

Talk is that Chelsea would have signed him if he’d accepted £150k salary, but he wouldnt do it.

Where are United getting all this money?? I thought they were sailing close to the PSR limits?? Bruno is really their only saleable asset at the moment.

That's pretty much been proven to be a myth, United are fine in respect to PSR, just not very liquid with cash hence the need to sell to bring in actual cash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,219 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

A myth? Jim said they could run out of cash....and was serious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,559 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

You didn't read my post did you?

A myth in regards to PSR.

It's also been spoken about by financial football journalists (sad that this has even become a thing) that what SJR said was basically hyperbolic nonsense about United running out of cash. As they're a publicly listed company, it's easy to see all the financials and the club was nowhere near to going bust.

no one here will really know. but the recent reports have been that United had a buddget of around 125m ex-sales to spend. and that is what we look to be spending on Cunha and Mbeumo.

from what I had read, PSR for the current season is fine, but it could be tight next summer.

and all the cost cutting United have been doing is part of this. Its not simply cuts to keep us afloat, it is also cuts to create buget space to invest in the football team. We, apparently, cut around 45million in costs - which if we were in a neutral position would be 250m in PSR space (not that it is that simple). We weren't in a neutral space, obviously, but it all ties together.

and I would argue Garnacho is sellable.
Mainoo would be sellable though I would be disgusted if we sold him.
I reckon we will get some interest in Antony, had a very good loan tbf to him.

Rashford wiil have clubs that want him, but he seems stuck on Barca and they don't really want him so that will drag.

    Sancho is a disaster.

(and then you hve Mount, Shaw and Casemiro costing waay more than they contribute)

Chelsea have approached A.C Milan about Mike Maignon. Finally they are looking to sign players (Delap also) in the positions they actually need and getting someone in with a lot of experience. He (Maignon) would be a great signing for them imo

I don't think what he said was a lie, but it was also a common occurance for United. the money United get is front/back loaded in the seasons, so around december is when cash flows would be getting poor - for any club. They have routinely got used a credit facility to fund the operations, paid it back at the end of the season then use it again the following year. Without using that facility we would have been out of cash.

But we had the investment from SJR, and then lower use of the usual credit facility - so it was never really an issue of going out of business, but the reality of needding to dod these things is also a poor state for a club making the revenues we do.

wsan't he absolutely rubbish last (this?) season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,443 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I'm surprised Milan kept him for this long. His only real downside is injuries. He has made mistakes this season but I really think that's down to the shtshow Milan have been this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,559 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

Look at Kieran Maguire's response when the SJR's quote was put to him, he basically laughed it off as a nonsense statement. However when it gets reported over and over, the majority tend to believe it especially when it was said by the de facto owner.

Our finances granted our terrible, but the hyperbolic statement didn't help the situation and in my opinion was just used to justify the extreme cost cutting, some was desperately needed, some not so much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,700 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

he was also liberally quoting our EBITA figure when saying how great our position reallly was… which makes very little sense to me. you can argue it means the club is in a good position if it needs financing, but it doesn't mean the club is actually liquid and in a positive cash flow.

additionally we would have assests we couldd sell if needed - but you csan see from our cash on hand position, the club has been in a poor state for years, and getting worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,559 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

I don't think anyone believes that Manchester United are in any great financial position, even Kieran. I think he was just trying to tone down SJR's hyperbolic statement.

Anyway, this is getting off the original topic. There's funds available for Cunha and it seems also for Mbuemo before the June deadline and it would be a very positive start to the window. Let's see if it's as positive with sales.

    inzaghi off to saudi:

Simone Inzaghi will sign in this week as new Al Hilal head coach, here we go!

Deal in place for the next 3 years with huge salary for the Italian coach due to leave Inter after meeting today.

Feeling was clear yesterday: it had to be, it will be Al Hilal

With the talk of Frank going to Spurs, that might not be the best move for Kelleher. If they also lose Mbuemo, they could actually get relegated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,443 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Awful shame to lose a good young manager to that nonsense. Would have been good to see him at a side that can compete financially in the Champions League.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,042 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Well there is an easy solution to this, Uefa should NOT allow them access to the Champions league, plain and simple.

Of course uefa will do whatever brings them in the most money. So it will happen. Uefa have no shame. At that point it will be one of the final nails in the football coffin.

That made me laugh about Barca.

Financially sound? Ha. Probably the most indebted club in world football who have sold a lot of the family jewels to keep themselves afloat, limiting their income in the future.

Just watching The Transfer Show on SSN.

What is the countdown clock supposed to represent?

In the below picture it looks like

    6 Days, 23 Hours, 6 Minutes, 31 seconds, 31 tenths of seconds.

That's roughly 6pm on the 9th of June.

What is relevant about that date?

Transfer window opened early this year to allow teams sign players before the Club World Cup. It'll close before that starts and reopens in July.

It's still daft, but then again it's Sky Sports. Tacky is their style.

Is Zubimendi going to have a change of heart and reject an agreed move away from Real Socidead for a 3rd year in a row? He did it to Bayern Munich, then Liverpool and he might be doing it to Arsenal now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭brianregan09

Nah that deal is more or less done Sociedad basically asked Arsenal to delay to the July window because it's a new financial window for them or something

I'd say either way he won't have wanted to say anything definitive while he's trapped with the national media for the next week on Spain duty. The comment that it's "going to be a long summer", was a slightly odd one as one would imagine any move would be done quickly since the fee is going to triggered via release clause — but those words could equally be interpreted as something like 'plenty of summer left after this week, all in good time' type of thing.

I do think he's going to finally bite the bullet and move on. Though I wouldn't rule out Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso known to really like him having managed him in the Sociedad reserves, and with RM needing a more metronomic player to replace Modric.

When Zubemendi turned Liverpool down last year, I was convinced it’s because Madrid told him to wait a year. The Arsenal news in January put me off that notion, but those quotes doing the rounds would lead me to think he may be holding out for Madrid.
