Is Amad being sold? Mbuemo plays right side forward. Amad plays right side forward. He can play in a front 2 alright, but I don't think Mbuemo is an out and out CF.

Mbuemo is a top player to be fair, but I would have thought that other positions were more pressing for Man Utd.

I'd guess Amad will take the right wingback role, with Mbuemo then playing inside him as one of the two 10s behind the lone striker.

Surely if Amad is going to be play RWB, then Amorin would have played him in that position at some point in the Europa League final? Instead of persisting with Mazraoi and the unfit Dalot.

But I can see the merits of playing Diallo there moving forwards. Plenty of pace and energy to get up and down the line.

Yep he does get backed in the market alright, like most of the managers at the top teams, in the most part though he tends to deliver in this department with the recent purchases been the exception rather than the rule.

I reckon Ait Nouri will get done for less than 50 but i think livramento will prove too dear and wont get done esp now with Newcastle getting cl. Not sure who the second choice is.

I think pep has been quite good reinventing players to full back, this season alone Nico O Reilly(AM) played a chunk at left back(he will stay as back up), Gvardiol id argue isnt a left back but had at least played there before. Mattheus Nunes did one game at left back(the derby…) and played predominantly right back. Hes another centre midfielder. Then zinchenko, sergio gomez, fabian delph all examples of pep reinventing players to play different positions(full back in particular). He is actually criticized heavily by city fans for NOT playing players in their natural position.

I think you are getting your RB and LB mixed up, Gvardiol is an ok left back but potentially an elite CB. Rico Lewis is a RB and a very poor one at that, i suspect he will leave this summer. Benjamin Mendy is the only actual left back Pep has bought in ten years at city and city have a history of never having a good one(Terry Phelan one of the best since the prem started and he wasnt as good at city as elsewhere tells its own story) so a signing like Ait Nouri well overdue.

He made an absolute hames of his final lineup anyway, but I think for that game he wanted the defensive solidity of known defenders in that spot rather than an attacker. But he's played Amad loads in the RWB/RM position through the season — and as you say, the fact Mbeumo looks to be coming in basically means that's where Amad has to play.

That was 1 game, he's played RWB a lot this season.

Pep now looking to add a RB in Livramento.

So with Livramento and Ait Nouri has the best coach in the world worked out how to get the best out of Haaland ?

It will all be for nothing if they are found guilty and then hopefully they start the season on about -80 points.

I wonder does that mean that Cunha will be played in the no.9 role. As they would have spent around 120m already on players who normally play just behind a front man. Unless they do sell Bruno (which would make getting Mbeumo sorted quick a smart move.), you would imagine that'd be all their signings for the attacking roles already done.

I guess it'll all depend on if they can shift on the loanees and seemingly Garnacho.

If they don't get a striker everyone should be fired.

If you've sign cunha to be a striker, you shoukd be sacked.

The talk for ages has been we want a striker and two 10s this summer. Along with a keeper and a cm.

Imo either Bruno is leaving or the plan is to mainly play him as an 8.

Deco has come out and said that Barça are now a well run club and no longer need to sell to buy

On the same day Luis Díaz is rumoured to be in talks with them and rejecting a Saudi move. Barcelona is his dream and his father said sp last year. Hopefully this means Barcelona now have the money for this as I think it will happen and could be a decent move for all parties if the fee is high enough [edit: rumours of talks are apparently not true now - apologies I may have jumped the gun on a poor source - but sounds like he'll either be sold for a high amount or sign a new contract if valuation is not met]

Sounds like there's also a real possibility of a cross-Merseyside transfer, the first in over 20 years, and the first Liverpool to Everton transfer since the Premier League started in 1992 - Ben Doak is a target for Everton and David Lynch (respected local journalist) suggests that he could go for a bit less than the £25m Liverpool said they wanted for him last year

I think £15m gets Doak to Everton and would be a good move for the lad to go work under a Scottish manager

I think Amad would excel at left forward in a 4-3-3, but obviously bundles of talent and can play multiple positions. 10 seems to be the preferred position for Amorim, but with the new signings maybe he will be at wing back next season, as seems to be the preference for most United fans.

Since Dorgu came in (meaning no need to play Dalot/Maz at LWB), Amad has started very few league games at RWB. One I remember was v Southampton. which was going very badly. Until he got switched to 10 and banged in a quick fire hat-trick!

Makes absolutely no sense to me to play Amad as RWB and Mbeumo as right sided 10. Both would have a strong preference for cutting inside thus restricting the ability to get wide. But as suggested above, maybe Mbeumo at 9 is the plan, I could see that working.

Bruno has said he is staying at Manchester and not moving this summer.

    Good news for United fans.

If they get a striker now that’ll totally change things at the club and it will be deemed a good summers business.

Will be interesting to see Bruno playing deeper as you’d imagine that Cunha will become the playmaker now.

Edit - they’ll buy a new Gk too obviously

Be interesting to hear non-United fan’s view on whether they’d prefer United to keep Bruno or ti get £100m+ for him (and assuming they don’t waste it). Seems 50-50 on the United thread, although the ‘half’ that want him to stay are more convinced of their position

As a non-United fan i’d be happy for them to keep him. He is a very good player, but when he’s their best player and best leader, you know they are in trouble. His non-performance in the Europa final surprised nobody, as it was not unusual. Other days he can look like one of the best players in the league, but I think they could do better with the cash.

Paul Scholes had an interesting take on a recent Overlap. They were talking about Amorim’s system and how it clearly hasn’t worked yet. But it’s a system that definitely can work as proven by Inzaghi, Alonso and Amorim’s Sporting. Scholes said maybe Bruno is the problem. He has his role in the system (which can change), but hasn’t the discipline to stick to it. Popping up all over the place, but leaving gaps where he should be. Scholes said, as a midfielder. he would not have liked to play alongside a player like Bruno.

But maybe things will improve with better players around him.

Bruno's a top player but as a non United fan I've never rated him as a captain. It's kind of like how I viewed Aubameyang as Arsenal captain, I saw a couple of games (likely against Liverpool) where he just fell short of what I'd expect from a captain in a big game to drag them through and although I don't watch much United I've gotten that same sort of feeling from Bruno.

I don't think it really matters either way but I'd likely lean towards hoping they keep him if he's continuing as captain as I just don't rate him to drag the team up to his level like a Keane/Ince/Robson

If they are going to play him as an 8 then he's still going to be a bit of an issue trying to force the pass rather than keeping it or just running out of position (unless he changes what he's done since he joined).

Maybe he'll play beside Cunha though and Mbeumo will be 9?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭batistuta9

someone on a podcast recently said cunha would be a strange signing as he's not really one for tactical instruction, idk. what would two of them starting be like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Wolves play the same formation so doubt there is an issue with tactics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭batistuta9

What's he like though? guy was giving the impression he just does his own thing really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,636 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

He’s a fantastic player and their best player by a mile. I’d be happy to see him leave in the hope it would weaken them more but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to sell him and still improve the team.

He scored 2 of the 3 goals in that game from WB. the third was as a 10. His higher output in terms of goals and assists have come as a WB, and (imo) his best games. He gets on the ball more, influences the game more. He gets disconnected at 10 imo, as he did in the final.

Since he came back from iinijury prior to the final started or came on at WB in multiple matches.

Amad has also shown ability to go the outsied from the WB position, and tbf the inside run of the WB is a key weapon of an Amorim side.

And, if Amad is not the WB of choice now, we need to sign one because we need to WB to be a proper offensive threat - the WB in the system can't be a fullback (imo) cause the attacking threat of the side is then too low.

But it does need to be proven that is what Amorim wants to do - its what he did at Sporting, but Sporting is not United. Even when Amad was fit prior to the injury we saw Mazraoui a lot at RWB. It can be argued that is because the options in midfield and attaack dictated Bruno at 8 and Amad 10, but its speculation maybe based hope!

he was actually referencing quotes from former wolves assistant manager Ian Burchnall

“He’s a player that plays on his instinct, he doesn’t like to spend hours looking through opposition and tactical bits,” Burchnall says. “He likes to feel the game and more play on instincts than anything, which obviously when a lot of coaches are working on deep tactical work, he doesn’t always slot into that because those sorts of free spirits are not seen as much. But if you can get him into the positions where he likes to be and then allow him that freedom, I think you get a lot out of Matheus"

Anyone think Kelleher might have found his level with Brentford? I don’t think he’s a top keeper, good with his feet but he’s not a great shot stopper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Chelsea not taking up the option on Sancho, will pay 5m to united.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,551 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

From a Milan point of view €75m is great business. He is good but he ain't that good.

Looks like Theo Hernandez is off to Al-Hilal. Wages going from 4m to 18m a year which is just bonkers money for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,555 ✭✭✭doc_17

That’s probably in and around what the likes of Salah are on. If Saudi keep this up they’ll be hard to stop as ultimately they’ll try and gain access to the Champions League as well for 4 of their teams.

Brentford have sold a far better keeper in Flekken imo. Kelleher has weak hands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I enjoy watching Brentford, Flekken has spilled the ball a few times and got lucky he recovered.

Kelleher proved this year that there is no keeper "far better" than him in the Premier League. Even Alisson coming back in wasn't a vast improvement.

Haven't seen much of Flekken but his stats are impressive. More so than I would have expected.
