the old lad cut 13 acres yesterday evening. The forecast is good, but he thinks it is a bit too leafy maybe. Worst case will just make bales of good quality silage. I'm nervous about all the good weather this early in the summer to be honest !!

I hope the weather stays nice! Even if we end up with silage, having 13 acres of good stuff is still a win. The early nice weather makes me a little nervous, too—let's just hope it doesn't have us wishing for more later!

Week is promised good so you should be ok. Nothing beats good hay from the month of May, it's powerful stuff to feed Weanlings with, full of protein, and you need no ration with it

Think il cut all my meadows for hay on Sunday im not around mon and Tuesday but it should be well dried out turn it twice on wed and thurs and get in baled on Friday. That's the plan anyway see if it works out.

It could be very wet on Sunday still. If u could get it cut dry on Monday evening it might save quicker for you. Hard Uk dey out real wet meadows.

Can you cut lipp in acres scheme before 1jiky. Is it just the bonus for late meadow you dont get?

Yes, you can cut LIG in ACRES before July 1st but you won't get the 50euro per ha bonus.

If the weather comes for Hay I won't be waiting for that bonus anyway

if the forecast looks good and Saturday comes very wet which is what’s promised in the midlands, I might leave mine till Monday to give the ground an extra day to dry a bit. A lot of rain here this week.

That sounds a bit optimistic to get Hay in 5 days without touching it for the first 2 days - what do others think, how long on average usually would ye have Hay down and I know its totally weather dependent but always min of 6 days here ?

we will have a heavy crop. Think a full week of decent conditions. Not sure we are going to get thou. The forecast was more optimistic yesterday morning !!

I may get the old lad to turn it Monday for me if he has time and sure I can leave it to Saturday if it needs an extra day. None of this dates are fixed.

the danger is that Saturdays rain runs to Sunday. Then it’s mowing Monday at best. Isolated showers promised during the week and with breaking possibly Friday, it leaves a very narrow window

Everything is drowned wet, crops and the ground need 2 days drying before you could think of cutting now, then you'd need a run of 4-5 good days. Weather is not settled enough for that.

Not forcase to be sunny enough or windy enough for hay. Unless crop is very light I don’t see a quality window there. Cutting it wet for hay is a disaster.

Agree with everyone - this coming week is not a week for Hay unfortunately.

Let's hope for some good weather in late June / early July n for the dust to be flying 🙏

.I've done hay in 5 days but would prefer the 6 days which is hard got. I used to turn it every day once when it was on the ground and they were strong young meadows.

Think I will abandon the hay idea and just mow it for silage don't think the weather will be hot enough and there is too much of a chance of showers so will just bale it up and move on
