Absolutely correct, and lets not forget that Hamas is still holding on to hostages, and torturing and killing any of their own people who oppose them, or who disagree at being used as human shields. Most IDF will not attack Hamas if they are hiding behind innocent civilians, but some will attack anyway. Hence the destruction and death toll. There are still thousands of Hamas fighting, but their ammunition and war supplies are low as they cannot easily smuggle more in. I feel sorry for the ordinary Palestinians who have been used as human shields by Hamas.

What about the ones the israeli c"ntbags use as human shields themselves??

Ironically the Eurovision is once again highly likely to expose the schism between the lefty public support for Gaza/Hamas in Ireland and what the silent majority in Ireland actually think.

Israel will get a huge public vote from Ireland.

Many Irish people must like seeing children bombed, shot and starved. Israel is a Pariah State with genocidal intent and should be nowhere near normal song contests.

Yet it can be comfortably predicted that Israel will get a big public vote from Ireland.

Why do you think that is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,370 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Probably a lot are Islamophobic, some easily led and others even feeling that it might effect their job (tech company) if they fail to support or are caught complaining about genocide. I've seen posts proving the last one on Boards.

and others even feeling that it might effect their job (tech company) if they fail to support or are caught complaining about genocide

    You have lost the plot.

You think people will vote for Israel in the Eurovision because they think it might affect their job.

    Seriously.

Actually it might not be as big as last year.

Last year you had Bambi Thug who was bringing a lot of attention to the Israel participant and I think there was a lot of backlash.

You know so little about the reality of the situation it is pathetic. Israeli soldiers would be very wary of going too close to Palestinians, never mind using them as human shields, because of the risk of getting stabbed or being blown up by someone with a grenade or suicide vest.

Do not forget the street celebrations in Gaza after the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers : a sizeable number of muslims have been led to perceive this as a legitimate (halal) act of martyrdom, by leveraging commercial airliners as fuel laden missiles to maximize civilian casualties.

You think the IDF can shelter behind civilians the same as Hamas does? You have an awful lot to learn.

in fairness why should Israeli singers be punished for the actions (and inactions) of their government?

That’s not the artists fault like?

That still doesn't mean that the majority support Israel's actions. Eg I'd consider public polling in relation to sanctions to be far more relevant than how a limited pool vote in the Eurovision. I'd suspect this is more a case of claiming something is proof of a silent majority when it absolutely is not. You can't even say how many voted on the Eurovision from Ireland last year but are assuming it's proof of something.

Yeah, whatever about what the real support for each side is, trying to use Eurovision results as a "gotcha" is absurd. The voting numbers are only a very small percentage of the population and last year there were a few indications of a concerted effort to push Israel's public voting. This quite likely happen this year too, Israel will get a lot of points from the public. I expect that, as a counterbalance, there will be a concerted effort to push a couple of songs very high on the jury vote (similar to last year). I think EBU would like to avoid any more reaction to this whole thing and they would be quite happy (or at least content) to not have the competition going to Israel at this point in time.

As for the RTE open letter, this is just a token gesture and nothing more.

It's why they're backing Israel in their genocide in Gaza. People who vote for a song might like the song but the question is - should Israel be allowed to take part in it while they are committing War Crimes and Genocide in Gaza?

I mean Azerbaijan compete in it and again they aren't really Europe and annexed a part of Armenia only recently. Nobody said anything about that or said they shouldn't compete.

terrible, but lets face it groups of extremists in israel are going on tours to watch the genocide as well.
so horrible stuff on both sides.
israel deliberately target civilians as we know so even if hamas dressed up in military gear israel would still slaughter the same amount of civilians as they want to eradicate the palestinian population because of supremicy.
    so yeah, victim blaming.

Anyone who spits and cheers over the body of a young woman who was raped and murdered is no victim.

I've seen the video and there were hundreds of them lining the streets.

And don't forget it was the Palestinians who elected Hamas and let them make their tunnels all over Gaza.

So they are not innocent bystanders in all of this.

So even the Palestinian children, including newborn infants, that are being either bombed or starved to death are just getting what they deserve? What's wrong with you?

How are Israel still in the contest given the discrepancy between the "public" votes they get during the contest and the much lower % of play requests afterwards ?

    Smells like cheating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,534 ✭✭✭✭end of the road

neither is anyone who goes on a tour to watch the genocide or takes part in it.
hundreds go on those genocide watching tours.
the vast vast majority as in around 90% i believe of the tunnels in gaza were built by the israelies to operate the occupation, only a small few tunnels were built by hamas.
the palestinians were entitled to elect hamas, it's called democracy and hamas wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the israely likud party anyway.
so yes i am afraid the palestinian population in general are innocent in full, both in terms of being bystanders and all else.
    so yep still victim blaming.

the non-rats in RTE do care about it, it is just that it is simply irrelevant.

it's the country she represents who is the issue, not her.

if israel stops committing genocide, gets back within it's borders as set in 1948 and sends it's war criminals to the hague then they should have no issue entering any future competitions, but until then israel should be persona non grata.

If you believe that Israel is committing genocide then, by default, you believe that the Allies committed genocide against Germany towards the end of, and in the aftermath of, World War Two.

The current war (as opposed to the Isr-Pal conflict in general) was started by Hamas. Therefore, the Israeli contestant is relevant.

The Nazis were the real victims of WW2. Interesting tactic to use in defence of a Jewish state currently engaging in genocide.

"You believe" incorrectly. The vast network of tunnels in Gaza was built by Hamas, for warfare ( or called terrorism by some) and smuggling purposes.

So you admit that you're an anti-Semite.

Well, I don’t know, seeing as how we’re all such a big bunch of anti semites ! I can’t keep up.

The Nazis were the people who caused the war, and who herded many millions of innocent Jews, disabled, homosexuals, gypsies etc to their deaths in extermination camps. I know some in Ireland were always a bit anti-semite, but for someone on boards.ie to claim "the Nazis were the real victims of WW2" surely takes some beating.

There was genocide in WW2. Killing Hamas fighters, and trying to free hostages, is not genocide, even though Hamas do not fight in uniforms.

It's a cynical tactic I've seen before. Sadly, it's nothing new.

It does seem like it could happen like last year, that the public vote in Ireland could favour Israel like last year but still Israel will still say we hate them, as will certain posters here. Not sure if this indicates these are fake votes not from real people or just that if pro-Israel campaign has an advantage that those voting against Israel for other countries would naturally split their vote among many countries.
