    I simply went to cmd prompt typed diskmgmt to load up disk management in control panel I clicked delete the partition 2 volume and waited one minute

    Then I clicked format volume drive E : ntfs

    And it worked I now have a drive 465 gig drive E in my computer name e ;

    New volume ,

    Thanks for the help

    It shows up in my computer drive E 465 gig when I plug in the USB cable

    It seems to be working fine now

    I think windows 7 is fine for working with USB drives if you are careful and know how to use diskpart or control panel hard drive storage format etc

    New disks usually are sold unformated - no partitions, entire drive unalocated. Some (re)branded (WD, Buffalo, other) might contain proprietary software that might offer drive protection(encryption) or backup. Information would/should come along with drive.
    Your Verbatim contain "Nero BackItUp Essentials" software, use to be bundled.

    Other than that and/or providing you dont care about contents - just format drive from disk manager or use build-in DISKPART, no need for third party software.

    From decade or so ago, "end of life" now, not in use. You can disassemble it and replace disk with SSD - standard SATA connection
    This what you would find inside

    I just used the software built in to windows 7 control panel storage disk management storage format drive. Ijust clicked default settings ntfs sectors etc format. Volume and it looks fine I think windows. 7 is fine to setup USB drives I'm just copying podcasts or YouTube videos to watch later .i think it's sad that company's will have to throw away 1000,s of PCs if they want to upgrade to windows 11 because they are not using the right ram or CPU to meet minimum requirements for a new os upgrade

    I.m not ab expert I just read some Sata drives might require 1amp or at least more power than a USB port eg more than 5volt 500 amp

    500 gig is more to than enough for my back up needs
