Did you end up getting the Switch 2 or still holding off for the time being? I remember you saying you were in no rush to get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,237 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I'm not getting it at least until next year. I have tons of stuff on the backlog so I'm in no rush.

Since I never use handheld I might just get one with a broken screen for cheap down the line and just stick it in the dock forever. 😁

Or maybe I'll just sell a load of old stuff to CEX and get one. Kill two birds with one stone.

    Anyway, no rush.

Just preordered from Amazon.fr for €56 including shipping.

They only authorise your card and don't take money straight away.

Is that not £56 (£53 + £2.62) rather than €56? So about €65 depending on the ex-rate, which is still 15 quid cheaper than Smyths though. Just curious as when I look on Amazon.fr it's showing as approx €65 too.

Delivery is a week after release date too.

You had to use the code in the first screenshot to get €10 off.

Shipping was showing as launch date when I ordered but I'd expect it a few days after that but no issue for me.

From the look of the code "amznapp25" it is likely only usable in the app and probably only if you've never used the app before.

This is a very worrying development from first party game on new hardware.

Quote: we prioritized fun and playability.

But Framerate is whole thing around having fun, nothing more annoying with a sold 60 then dropping frames that is so noticeable the directer has to comment on it before game release. But I do appreciate his honesty. Very concerning for me on a console just released and from Nintendo first party game.

Reading the original Spanish interview that the quote is sourced from, the interviewer doesn't specify whether they were playing handheld or docked (and if docked, at what resolution) - and does make a point of saying that the dips are occasional. A lot more context is needed around how frequent and noticeable these dips are to determine if it's really going to bother someone.

Skill-Up mentioned the drops in his preview video too, fingers crossed it's not bad at all or can be patched out. Will be waiting for reviews before purchasing anyway so will see what Digital Foundry have to say on it, I think John Linneman is on review duty for this one.

That's the price it should be, I'd try it but I'm never paying €80 for a Switch game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,409 ✭✭✭rob808

Well you can get it for €70 digital but €56 always better.

Digital Foundry review - it has some technical issues but still one of the best 3D platformers in a long while.

Think I might pick it up from Smyths at the weekend.

Yes same here. Have been on the fence with this title. But reading the reviews, it looks like a most buy.

Sounds like Switch 2's killer app.

    Or killer ape.

    😁

Played an hour last night - too early for much feedback other than that beating the **** out of the landscape is oddly theraputic :)

Performance in main gameplay seems very smooth with only slight dips - whereas there are some short but obvious drops in some cutaways or animated sequences.

Does anyone know if there's anywhere in Gorey that sells Switch games these days? Not sure if Tescos sell games anymore.

I'd say your best bet would be Ken Blacks in Wexford or the Retro Gaming Store on the main street.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,235 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Cheers, Wexford town too far a trek though. Ah might just spin up to Carrickmines or else order it from Amazon.

my copy of DK Bananza arrived, can't wait to play it later after work!

I've historically always bought Nintendo 1st party games in physical format but with already having MK World digital and the price difference between digital & physical for Donkey Kong, I'm leaning towards buying it digitally. Also a bit of FOMO at this point and not wanting to wait for delivery!

Only the start, but a rough enough intro from it, both from a performance perspective, to overall fairly general mechanics (deformability aside). Will hopefully open up a bit now once the game starts proper and grabs hold.
