so many maybes, probablys, I expect, conference calls, I assumes, I understand

    And so on and on.

Its bizarre. Assume everything musk says is a lie and work back from there

That’s a fun thought. I would have assumed that the Model 3 would kill less flies than other cars. It has a low drag coefficient, so you would expect less turbulence to cause the flies to hit against it.

you don’t notice them as much on ice cars with sharper edges/styling, big gaping holes for radiators, and cooling, whereas the m3 is a big bulbous front end, so everything stuck to it is more noticeable, that’s all it is

Simple physics - instant torque results in higher velocity, thus producing greater momentum, resulting in better bug-smashing 😁

I suspect there's a higher percentage of Teslas white than other brands due to pricing. So the dead midges stand out more, bless their little corpses. Also, there's more to overall CoD than just the frontal cross section profile. There's the flow around the body and how cleanly the air leaves the rear without creating too much low pressure that is just as important.

the white is a metallic colour too, so it was a decent free option

Posting in case this is of interest to anyone.

I ran the battery health test on my 2021 (211 reg) Model 3 RWD LFP with 88k kms.

I started the test yesterday at 4% SOC, and the test finally completed almost 20 hours later.

Happy with the result of 95% SOH. Range at 100% also increased from 394km to 405km.

Quite impressive for a 4 year old car, and seems to compare favourably against results I've seen online.

The anti- EV brigade won't be happy with that!😁

A few others have done it too with results of 97%.
The 2022 MYLR battery seems to be holding up SOH wise.

    Seen a 2021 M3 that was at 91%.

My white Model 3 is now 3 years and 2 months old. The paintwork is perfect, only one small stone chip touched up with a paint stick. Probably helped by not much motorway driving over 50k kms, but it's as good or better paint quality than other recent cars.

I'll see your model 3 and Ioniq 5 fly swatters in white and raise you an EV9 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,998 ✭✭✭sk8board

    woof 😳

Big misses on both the top and bottom lines in the Q1 results.

Roughly speaking - Auto revenue down 20%, eps down about 40%, and profits down 70%.

No clear 2025 forecast, blaming the Y changeover and the ‘political situation’ for the revenue drop, and says the tariffs will affect all sides of the business, hitting the energy generation business the most.

Musk will surely say on the call later when exactly he’s going back to running Tesla. He’ll certainly be asked that question anyway

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,176 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    He’s been quiet lately?

Or maybe the media has gotten bored reporting on him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,998 ✭✭✭sk8board

the news cycle has a lot of Trump, tariffs, Fed, pope stories to fill the main news cycle - I’m not on Twitter but I’m sure must is as active as ever, but yes it feels quieter on that front to me.

Edit: “Elon Musk said he will be stepping back from DOGE starting next month, and the stock was trading up over 5% after hours.”

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,176 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

“Elon Musk said he will be stepping back from DOGE starting next month, and the stock was trading up over 5% after hours.”

That was always on the cards, he said he would be there until May, a month or 2 back. Has the damage already been done? Time will tell.

it will be interesting to watch the SP for the next few days to see if the retail Muskateers win out over the institutional’s.

Just to remember - back in Dec, before the awful Q4 results were becoming clear, the initial consensus for Q1 EPS was $3.31. This is a huge fall in the eyes of the analysts. They’ve delivered less than 10% of expectation, but the SP is only down 45% from the ATH.

From an investment thesis perspective, Tesla is technically now a turnaround story not a growth story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,998 ✭✭✭sk8board

”he said he still intended to spend some 40% of his time on DOGE.”

Combining that with all the time he spends online, or on X, nuralink and space X, you have to think Tesla will go from 5% of his time today, to maaaybe 20% of his time in future?

Maybe he’s just lying as usual and is just saying this on the call to appease investor’s, and actually won’t change at all and let’s face it it’s hard to accurately estimate where he spends his time anyway.

Always tell your followers what they want to hear.

"Maybe he's just lying as usual" The more I learn about Elon the more obvious what an absolute gowl he is.

This is the kind of stuff tesla should be acknowledged for. Stick to the cars Elon!

This is a fantastic feature for any car. Hopefully it’s automated and doesn’t require the user to tell the car that there’s a child inside. That would defeat the purpose of course!

ah here! c'mon now - parents/guardians need to be reminded that they've left a child alone in the car?

And that's a "feature"? That should be lauded?

    f.f.s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,728 ✭✭✭893bet

it’s the one in a 5 million chance that does happen.

A sleepless night with a crying baby, one of 3 children, a slight change in routine where one of school is closed, sleepless mother/father drops the baby and youngest off at crèche and was supposed to drop the 5 year old off at grand parents but forgot for some reason as got distracted, child was quietly “plugged in” the back of the car, parent proceeds to work, forgetting child in the back, think searing Nevada heat in the US the child would not survive long in the car.

Anything you can imagine can happen does happen. It wouldn’t make me buy a car but it’s a nice tech.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,176 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Are you aware at how many child deaths occur because they’ve been left in a car?
    You’re showing your incompetence here.

34 babies a year in the US alone. If a simple software tweak helps that rate drop then yes, it’s definitely worth it.

The most common cause is a parent or caregiver forgetting a child in the car, according to NHTSA.

Have a bit of cop on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,053 ✭✭✭ablelocks

I'm incompetent? I've never left any of my children alone in a car.

And you say I'm the one that needs to cop on?

    f.f.s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,053 ✭✭✭ablelocks

or alternatively, look after your children and don't rely on tech to do it for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,111 ✭✭✭wassie

I'll just switch on Dog Mode for the weeuns while Im at the track….

    /s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,728 ✭✭✭893bet

Your response is the equilivant of a “stop being poor” meme.

You never have a night time camera on a child? Or use a Sid device, or use baby formula? does you child go to school? What’s wrong with you? Why not educate your children and not rely on the state to do it for you?

But look I can’t argue with stupid.

You are right. While people are at it they should also stop drinking and driving, stop smoking, stop eating shite food, stop driving fast. Let them kids cook in the car, that’ll teach the parents.

There was a case in Dublin, child forgot in car, happened to be hottest day of the year, tragedy, again a change of routine, child asleep in rear. This could indeed save lives.
