Lowest of the low bars :( do you know what people want? Giant locusts rather than dinosaurs?....kkkk

I am going to see it on Saturday expectations pretty low

(Bear in mind I live in a largish town with only one cinema, and it has 2 full size cinema screens, it's not the little screen out of Fr Ted), when I was going to see Joker 2, I asked in the local forum when would be best to go to avoid the kids and the crowds and the noise. The two replies I got were just "you must be new here" and some laughing emoji.

I went on Saturday night at 9pm. Turns out there was me and 3 other people in the building. Me, the guy who sold the ticket, the popcorn and coke, turned on the machine and swept up after, and a couple in the other screen. I was the only person in Screen 1.

I'm kind of thinking will I try the same this Saturday. OK, Jurassic World has more of an appeal to the great unwashed than Joker 2 did, but, the 20.15 screening…

    I shall report back.

    That sounds like bliss!

I am heading Saturday morning in Dublin... I wouldn't brave a multiplex type place outside of those very early screenings tbh.

    Jurassic World: Rebirth – 6/10

    4th of july usa GIF

    “Hungry? Why wait”

The longest Snickers advert I’ve ever seen.

After a shockingly bad opening that is rushed beyond belief, we get dropped into more of the same Jurassic World sequel nonsense. For the first 45 minutes I was gutted as it retains the same goofy tone from Fallen Kingdom. I was under the impression that this was going to be a tonal reset for the franchise, but this is just more of the same slop. Not only is it rubbish, but it looks like poo too. From a pure cinematography POV, it looks horrible. Faces are constantly hidden in shadow and like many modern blockbusters, it looks cheap as hell. It was in 1 star Dominion territory for a good while.

I’m relieved to report that once the Spinosauruses show up, it starts to pick up and gradually morphs into a fun, Jurassic Park 3 style adventure B-movie. There are plenty of exciting set pieces with lots of new exotic beasts, but no matter how many genetically altered dinos they shove down our throats, it’s always the OG T-Rex steals the show.

It’s not one for the nitpickers who can’t switch the critical part of their brain off. People are constantly saying and doing stupid things. Characters inexplicably escape the snapping jaws of giant monsters at least 20 times. Dinosaurs hold off from attacking the more morally rounded members of the cast to allow them ample time to escape. The little girl is so bad at acting, they only give her three lines. But, hey, it’s a 7th Jurassic Park film released in the age of shoddy blockbusters. It’s exactly what you should expect and about as much as you could hope for.

They make turds. They do make turds. It’s up to whether you decide to pinch your nose or gleefully roll around in it.

Am booked in for Sunday with the family.

I like a lot of dross that other people hate so expecting a good time. 😎

Thought it was the best one they’ve made since the Lost World. The dinosaurs are scary again. The T Rex scene definitely the highlight of the film for me.

After El Duda's post I was thinking maybe i wont bother.

Your post has got me thinking again.

I'm very much on the fence now.

    its fine, imo.

My main gripe is that I didn't/don't recognise most of the dinosaurs in the movie. THere are some 'cameos' by old familiar staples of the franchise but most of Act 2 and Act 3 may as well be a godzilla movie.

Which is an unfair criticism - it IS a monster movie after all, and Jurassic World has always introduced me to 'new' dinosaurs and new not-dinosaurs. But in this one I think i felt a bit more of a disconnect there, more of a 'that may as well be a Muto'.

In the year 2025 it is a shame that movies can still be this dumb and badly written. Not that I should be surprised, but when will studios learn that rushing schedules to meet a release date just puts people off the franchise when the inevitable rubbish is released.

Why on Earth does it start with text explaining about dinos migrating to the equator when it tells you this information constantly within the first 10 minutes, and beyond!

After years of wanting to see the T-Rex raft scene from the first book on film, I must say the scene was disappointing in the end, while also being the best set piece in the movie. It was kept basic, and rushed along compared to what goes down in the book, and most of it is in the trailers anyway.

I'm surprised they didn't give Rupert Friend a moustache to twirl.

Saw it this evening with my son and was pleasantly surprised. Is it amazing like the first Jurassic Park? No, not even close, but I had a good time and enjoyed many set pieces. Some proper tension in some scenes also which was nice.

I’ve always been a fan of the series but critical of the newer ones. Even the lost world went off the deep end in the final act.

I really don’t get the hate this one is getting. People wanted the dinosaurs to be scary and having a tense atmosphere in the movie. This does that the best since the first one imo. This is literally what everyone asked for so I’m not sure why it’s getting so much flak. There’s only so many storylines for getting people to go to a dinosaur island for the umpteenth time! The criticisms saying it’s stupid are unfounded, the premise and story are genuinely one of the better ones in the series. The last 3 films were dog muck.

I don’t really get the mutant thing, it’s been done to death and stupid. If they replaced the d rex scenes near the end with the OG T rex it would have been a near perfect Jurassic film for me.

I saw it this morning. I agree with most of this. Nothing will beat the original but this was a lot of fun, there are more than a few eye roll worthy parts but kind of expected along with the usual call backs. Plus quite a lot of annoying product placement, but the dinosaur scenes are fun and there is a good mix of them! I did feel the two main groups/stories didn't exactly meld together well. Personally I would have preferred it focussed on the merc storyline versus the family.

That yellow raft was basically indestructible! I also didn't think the little kid was great tbh.

Plus the minute the crew was introduced you knew they weren't going to stick around long, Ed Skrein was barely in it.

Of the three previous Jurassic world films I enjoyed the first one, but fallen kingdom was pretty poor and dominion was very poor. This was better than I had expected.

I saw it today and I'm of the same opinion. After having read pretty much nothing but bad reviews, my expectations were low. And maybe it's for that reason why I enjoyed it so much......I dunno. All i do know is that I kept waiting for it to get crap but it never did. A very welcome and pleasant surprise.

With his and her Marvel role, is Scar Jo the biggest female box office draw, is she also a producer on this?

It looks to be doing good at the box office

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

It was… fine. Nothing overly wrong with it, nothing particularly great about it. Until they start teaching the dinosaurs to use guns, there's very little else you can do with them that we haven't already really seen.

You can drive a bus through a lot of the plot and decisions, but ultimately, it was fine. It all served its purpose.

To be honest the bit that annoyed me the most was the entire thing about how the public have gotten bored of the exhibitions with real life dinosaurs… as if there isn't a zoo in every reasonably big city in the world with elephants, lions and monkeys which are always packed during holidays or good weather. But apparantly people got bored of actual dinosaurs after 5 years.

I thought it was OK. Better than the last 2 ones but that's not exactly a shock.

I just wish for once we'd get a Jurassic Park movie without kids or family dynamics.

It was entertaining enough but didn't feel like it had anything new to offer. Having the A story of the team getting the DNA and the B story of the family was totally unnecessary and it took time from what could have gone towards character development. Instead it was very clear who was going to live and die and it took a lot of tension away from the action scenes.

Did a little video review where I went into more detail if anyone cares to check it out.

Not just biggest female. Top grossing star ever https://www.the-numbers.com/box-office-star-records/worldwide/lifetime-acting/top-grossing-leading-stars

She surpassed Samuel L Jackson with this I believe. Most of the Top 10 are all Marvel actors outside of Tom Cruise and The Rock.

Maybe an old school R-rated film is the way to go. Raptors and a T-Rex tearing a team of navy seals to shreds. A bit like Aliens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,869 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

There was a section a bit like that in Jurassic World...with the raptors turning on the soldiers after having a chat with the indominus rex...it wasn't great.

A Quiet Place was one of the few recent monster films to portray a family realistically.

Honestly after the last few stinkers I expected nothing from this, so probably enjoyed it more than it really deserved.

It's pretty generic, predictable, cliche in exactly the ways you'd expect……but it really isn't that bad at all, mainly because the tone is a lot more consistent compared to the last few.

I mean the last one was so awful it was verging on so-bad-its-good territory, and this is definitely not that.

The cinematography is good, the acting and characters are fine, the dinosaurs look great and act like dinosaurs should, the story is fairly simple but at least doesn't try to be more than it has to be.

At this stage the concept has been flogged to death to an extent it's impossible to know how you could make a 'fresh' Jurassic Park movie, but this is definitely at least closer in style to the first than the last few have been.

I don't really have too much negative to say about the film other than it's quite uninspired at worst and definitely could've been better, but equally it could've been so much worse.

I will say the opening scene was intensely stupid and illogical and seems to exist purely for product placement, it felt very off and instantly had me expecting the worst of the movie.

Overall though you could definitely do a lot worse than watch this.

I mean really there's only one terrific film in the entire franchise and it's the original, nothing else came close. This has as much as right as the rest of them to be second best, though I'd probably personally prefer Lost World and Jurassic World over it.

I would give this 6/10. It's a good time at the cinema.

I haven't seen this yet, but based on the trailer, i don't understand the obsession with mutant dinosaurs and hybreds. Hollywood has been itching for this stuff since the scrapped ideas for the original Jurassic Park 4 way back when, and i just don't get it. The magic of Dinosaurs is that they were actual animals that really existed, inventing monsters ruins that. To quote Owen Grady from Jurassic World "They're Dinosaurs…They're 'Wow' enough"

Yes! T-Rex and raptors are perfect killing machines and design classics. Why do they feel the need for a load of bells and whistles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,476 ✭✭✭crusd

Focus groups rather than any actual creative impulse.

Plus this movie stayed within the universe created by the previous movies therefore mutant hybrids exist so they cant just get rid. As many have said if they want to continue with the franchise it would benefit from a complete reset where they can just get rid of these dead end plot devices.

Saw it with my 10 year old who loved it so would definitely recommend if you want to watch it to bring your kids if you have them. On my own it would have been very meh with just a couple of nice set pieces but otherwise pretty ****.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,611 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

The unnecessary mutants dinos are definitely a miss here.

I know it was meant to be the "hook" - the dinos that were too mental to use in the park.
And think of the new merch!!

    Enjoyed it though regardless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,111 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Call me cynical if you want, but I believe there's another reason for the mutant dinos.

If your 5 year old is dinosaur mad like I was at one time, and asks for a triceratops and a T-rex for their birthday, you could either spend 20 euros plus on each for the official JP licensed toys of each, OR go into dealz, or Eurogiant, and get an unlicensed toy of each for about 4 euro total.

However, if your 5 year old asks for an indomintoraus rex, you have no other option than going into Smiths Toys and buying the official Jurassic World toy of it.

They can trade mark official Jurassic Park/ World toys but they can't trade mark a real dinosaur that once lived. There's nothing stopping me 3D printing a triceratops (short of my lack of a 3D printer)

So they created new ones that they can trade mark.

    Ms

So I went and seen this yesterday. It not the worst JP movie but it's not the best either. It's a fun watch but there is nothing really new in it. Its mire fun than the new Supetman film abd gers more of the basics right like tension and theme music.

TThere is some absolutely stupid darned it too thought like

Why did your man go on a job ride near the end instead if just trying go get off the island by himself. He ends up getting killed after his jourlde joyride anyway. Also I don't think a Dinossur would have a clue what a helicopter is never mind vding able to catch it and get it in its mouth without fuel pouring all over it and it going on fire.

Just stupid scenes like that but hey it's a movie.

    I give it 7 out of 10.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
