Where does this fit in with the last batch of movies? From the trailer it sounds like another bash at the second book (getting dinosaurs samples/eggs from the original test island, albeit with these lads instead of Malcolm), so is it a sequel to Jurassic Park and prequel to the Jurassic World series? Or just a rehash of that idea again at a later stage? It just feels like a step away from the the whole business of lots of dinosaurs having been normalized roaming the earth.

Seemingly it is set 5 years after dominion. They are billing it as a "standalone sequel" but let's be honest if it's huge they will probably do more.

It seems back to basics (a relief after the last two awful films), but also an awfully familiar setup.

I’ve said it before: Jurassic Park should’ve been a one and done series, especially after Spielberg perfected the idea first time around. Edwards is a dab hand at spectacle at least, but still hold out little hope this’ll find any fresh intrigue in the Jurassic Park formula.

After pretty much perfecting the technology, it should have been Jurassic Park and then a slew of other dinosaur related movies. Instead of A Dino Riders movie, a good Godzilla movie, and I don't know.. Dinosaurs and Cadillacs? We just got a seemingly endless run of Jurassic park sequels. The Lost World was not terrible. Third one definitely was. And then, the rest were very meh in my opinion, seemingly always with irritating little kids.

I'm getting a bit of a Jaws vibe from it. The boat at the end looks a lot like Orca from Jaws, and the shot at the end with Scarlett shooting the rifle.

    image.png image.png

    Pros:

    Scarlett Johanson

Original dinosaurs, no makey-uppy hybrid Dinos this time.

    No irritating kids.

    Cons:

Well, it's 2025 and everyone from the Gardai to Domino's Pizza have their own drones. Surely if you really need blood samples from the most dangerous predators on the planet for whatever made up bs reason, they could send some drones to the island to take blood samples?

Haven't read any of the actual articles, but I've seen headlines suggesting this is going to be an attempt at making dinos scary again. That's a nice thought, but I'll believe it when I see it.

@LambshankRedemption Sorry, but there's definitely more mutation/hybrid crap in this one. 😑 Oh, and the trailer also features a kid because these missions with minimal chance of survival always require a kid to be brought along. How annoying the kid is remains to be seen.

They need to completely reboot the Jurassic Park films, no more sequels, a new start

Erm… I hate to break it to you, but that trailer featured both "makey uppy" hybrid dinosaurs and an irritating kid

Did you watch the trailer with your eyes closed?

So the maguffin is the same as Deep Blue Sea. It surely can't be that hard to come up with a decent concept to kick-start your dinosaur movie.

I've never wanted clone-hybrid dino monsters in these films. I come for the dinosaur action, not made up crap. This is still going that direction, so it's a no for me.

My eyesight is not as good as it was back in 1993 when JP came out.

I saw the T-Rex, Raptors and Dilophosaurus. I didn't notice a makey-uppy Dino. As for not spotting the kid, when you get to my age most younger people look like kids. I just assumed it was a younger adult.

I was in the pub the other night and was surprised to see what looked like a 14 year old order and get served a pint of heineken. Turns out she's in 3rd year of college.

@LambshankRedemption Sorry, but there's definitely more mutation/hybrid crap in this one.

    Ah feic.

I had such high hopes for the last movie's concept, dinosaurs in the modern society and how they would adapt to this new world, but instead we had a conspiracy by a corporation using locusts.

Have no faith in any of these anymore, although do like Edwards as a director so will probably still watch it, just won't be paying to see it.

Why oh why do they insist on putting kids into these movies. Just more lazy film formula rubbish

Just make an R rated dinosaur movie with no kids, dinosaurs that actually existed and lots of carnage

I'll watch it like most but wont be rushing out to pay to see it

What's funny is the final film of that trilogy is what Trovorrow said from the off was what he was setting everything up for, seeing the dinos running free outside the island and how that goes down. Yet it's about modified locusts as the biggest pest that need to be controlled. He's a hack.

I had hopes that something could be salvaged with the franchise but the trailer isn't convincing me.

There's no new footage in it at all, and the "trailer" isn't on any official channels… Some chancer has re-edited the original trailers.

That must be Nigel with the brie...

These movies are becoming so identikit now. Another island, another female protagonist, another child or children who have to be protected (bonus points if the kid is a stowaway), another enormous aquatic dinosaur.

I dunno. The last one was a big departure from previous ones.
Personally I'm looking forward to a return to dinosaur island surrounded enormous aquatic dinos.

And who doesn't like Scarlett Johansson in safari gear?

    Bring it on!

The last one was an absolute mess...a shame given the cast.

I personally really enjoyed Jurassic World, even fallen kingdom had some interesting ideas.

Gareth Edwards directing this one gives me hope.

Yeah, the last one was awful. One of the worst blockbusters of recent times.

    Really liked Jurassic World.
    Have rewatched many times.

Was never bothered with rewatching the last one.

Some new footage (I think) looks promising to me.…full new trailer Tuesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,391 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Trailer 2 this looks like it will be a lot of fun!

I hope the dinosaurs can take a few casualties this time. There are only so many miraculous escapes from jaw bites I can take.

Seeing Scarlett dangling upsidedown versus a mosasaur has zero effect given the invincibility cloak. I'd very much like a game of thrones style JP where everyone is fair game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,051 ✭✭✭homerun_homer

Absolutely this. My betting since the first trailer is that R.F. will be killed, but otherwise it'll be faceless red shirts killed with little to no blood on show. Also, annoying that kids still featuring massively in the film when clearly it's a dangerous mission they're on. Give us a JP movie where it's just adults and all are fair game.

For that though, you'd need big names to agree to die early, or no big names to anchor the movie.

    Neither might be realistic!
