If I let someone leave his horses on my land will I be liable if they're not properly cared for?

A friend asked me if he could leave his horses on my land. Aside from the fact that my farm is very

small and my sheds are not fit for horses, I am a bit worried about landing in trouble if he fails to

properly care for the animals while they are left with me

Any advice gratefully accepted

Probably not, but most likely you'd be liable to opening the door countless times to Gardai and the ISPCA enquiring about the worn out and neglected horses in your field and then having to explain that they're not yours.

If you have doubts about the welfare of the animals I'd be giving your mate a wide berth.

The fact that you are asking the question means you suspect that they won't be properly cared for. That should make up your mind for you.

I'd get a formal rent or lease agreement if I were you. You'd have a case to answer if the animals strayed onto the road while in your land anyway, this I know from experience.
