    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Watched first episode on Sky Documentaries- it continues next week.

Louis Walsh comes out appallingly - he really is quite a revolting character - as much as I’m not nor ever was a Boyzone fan, it’s an interesting doc nevertheless - Mickey Graham comes across very well and it feels like he’s one of the more normal of the members - he’s now living the quiet life in the west of Ireland I think.

As an initially talentless bunch on young individuals yes Louis certainly “gave them a start”- but his ego doesn’t seem to want any of their success to be allocated or attributed to the talents they obviously developed over time. Reminds me of the Human League lyrics “But don’t forget it’s me who put you where you are now”…”and I can put you back down too”

They were selected because they looked attractive they were young and they could do sing to some extent ronan keating is a very good singer you don't sell millions of records without having some talent boyband managers are not noted for bring nice kind or saintly human beings of course tabloid newspapers were sent various story's to get publicity even now celebs go for pap walks eg go to a place to be photographed for publicly

Showbiz has always been a rough business full of compromise and hype

The managers job is partly to hype and push his band to be famous

I d assume they were auditioned to check if they could sing to some extent before the band was launched

It was actually looks that they were taken on and the “whole package” in terms of how the eventual 5 of them came together - in the early years Ronan and the late Stephen Gately were the singers - the other 3 either mimed or were simply backing - on the first album, amazingly not all Boyzone members sang on that recording.
Their infamous first late late show appearance - they just “danced” to a backing track- no singing - so no, this wasn’t even close to an X factor audition - this was simple a boy band built on image - Mickey Graham was the only one who could actually song write and play guitar - he was consigned to the back for most of his time there- Louis Walsh didn’t speak to him for about 5 years when managing him - it was extraordinary - I don’t tend to feel sorry for boy bands simply due to the millions they make and the adulation they receive from the fans- but certainly it can majorly impact mental health -a few of them seem to have suffered lasting effects for various reasons - I think the next episode will cover Stephen’s “outing” as being gay - again Louis will come across as a complete and utter d1ck - praising the publicity - he looks like a complete and utter idiot with his ridiculous hair transplant and puffed out cheeks -a sad old man

Why was Paul Martin being interviewed in his car in an underground car park?

I kept expecting a shadowy figure to walk over and slide a briefcase across the floor, as long as he doesn’t ‘hurt the girl’.

Yes very Deep-Throatesque- I was waiting for Robert Redford to make an appearance but it didn’t happen 😀

Talentless shower who benifitted from Take That splitting up. Not a singer among them.

And then when they split up, Westlife was ready to step in.

Still trying to kickstart that career again Samantha 🤪

“Samantha Mumba has defended her former manager Louis Walsh as the music mogul faces criticism in Sky’s new Boyzone documentary series released today.

Speaking to the Sunday Independent as she prepares to compete in the Eurosong finale to represent Ireland in the Eurovision with her song ‘My Way’, Mumba (42) defended Walsh and credited him for his business prowess.”

Yes, though they had 2ish singers. 1 quite good sometimes. Awful songs imo

I was shocked at how Mikey Graham looks now, has an Italian mob look about him.

Louis Walsh looks like Podge and Rodge.

He comes across very strange when they hand him the Sun newspaper breaking the story about Stephen, he filled with joy.

I hope Mickey is well in himself - looks like he’s trying to distance himself from the madness to stay well - good on him.

Love the physical description of Louis- very apt and the personality to boot

He comes across well, more or less says he'd have walked but he had a daughter and her Mother to think about.

Again, it seems strange of Louis to ditch the two other lads and bring Mikey in to pretty much end up casting him to the back and pretty much ignoring him.

I watched all three episodes and I thought it was an honest and well paced documentary. Louis certainly didn't come out well, he was an insidious character. The media treatment of Stephen Gately and his family was absolutely appalling. It's hard to imagine such coverage about someone's sexuality today. His death at 33 was tragic and he is obviously still greatly missed by his 'brothers'. At the end of the day, they were very young lads who were given a chance and took it. They gave it their best shot and the documentary tells that story warts and all.

Louis is a creature. An awful creature. Clearly a horrible person.

He used to be around Lillies back in the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not a load of skeletons in his closet.

Really milking it. Duffy thinks he’s still in his 20s.. awful guff altogether.

Remembering when Shane and Keith covered ‘Girl You Know Its True’.

    (Entire body shudders)

Louis proved himself to be a fantastic manager…just look at the phenomenal success of Hometown and Next In Line.

Louis Walsh looks like podge and rodge now

Louis made a career of being on uk tv the xfactor . look up boybands usa manager most boybands got ripped off to some extent .i think singers are smarter now they know to get a financial manager and to ask for royalties

Westlife were a successful band too.

He has managed Johnny Logan, Boyzone, Jedward and Westlife, four of Ireland's most successful pop acts in the 1990s and 2000s. He has also served as a judge on television talent competition shows, including Popstars (2001–2002), You're a Star (2003–2004), The X Factor (2004–2014; 2016–2017), and Ireland's Got Talent (2018–2019). In 2024, Walsh was a contestant on the twenty-third series of the reality show Celebrity Big Brother.

in terms of a manager there were far worse than him around

I think the incident of the guy breaking into his house and getting injured pushed Mikey out of the limelight, did he move out of Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭forumdedum

Have to admire someone who can make money out of pure s*&^e

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭thereiver

boyzone and westlife were middle of the road certainly not to everyone,s taste in terms of original pop music

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭forumdedum

Certainly not original. Westlife had 2 singers, Boyzone had 1/2 a singer. Lots of studio trickery (and other session singers brought in) to make them sound passable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,232 ✭✭✭✭Welsh Megaman

Begrudgingly, you can’t deny that ‘Picture Of You’ is a fantastic pop record.

A great appropriation of 60s Motown swing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭thereiver

i think westlife released at least 2 very good songs that still hold up today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,054 ✭✭✭donegal_man

Karaoke singers who got lucky. There were and are better singers playing the pub circuit every night.

I had the misfortune to meet them many years ago and a more unpleasant group of young men I've never encountered. Hopefully the years and experience have improved their personalities but I doubt it.
