Ever heard of the Trump hotel in Co. Clare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,624 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

I wouldn’t bother with that poster, this is now the 3rd thread where they’re spouting the same word vomit.
They're only source is “Trump said”.

They pretend that anyone WFH is minding their children along with other peoples children, have second jobs and go out playing golf and tennis regularly again with the source being the clown Trump.

I wonder why Trump thinks people would be playing golf while working? He certainly didn’t do that for over a fifth of his first time in office, did he?

At the time he said he would invest 35 or 45 million (as far as I remember) and create hundreds of jobs there.

He did create the jobs anyway. Real jobs, not like some "artists" I know employed by the arts Council who never produce any art.

Not bad for an "awful ghol" as our Taoiseach insultingly called him. He will not forget that. Or what President Higgins said about him / his work either.

Even during the worst of the cold war I do not remember Reagan or Thatcher stooping so low as to call someone "an awful ghol". Especially someone we rely on for our defence / defence of Europe.

He bought Doonbeg when the asking price was reduced dramatically due to erosion nearby and the course being in financial trouble. He saw a deal not a plan to give towards Ireland. Can you provide your source that he actually invested this amount, not that he said he would.
Show us the figures that have been invested by Trump in Doonbeg.

He’s also made a pretty penny for himself from it, he’s not throwing money at Ireland, he’s just trying to make money for himself.

He’s a businessman and a bad one at that when you look at the many failed businesses and bankruptcies.

Do list what trump has called other people if you're really determined to bang this point ad nauseum.

Otherwise your contributions can be disregarded.

He still invested millions in Ireland and created hundreds of jobs here. If you think that is easy why do you not do it?

Yes, he hopes to make a return on it, that is what business people do in order to compensate for businesses or investments that invariably do not work out. He is not a fool. This thread is about the positives of Trump.

So no actual source then. Just the word of a man who lied over 30,000 times during his first term.

Maybe because I haven’t been given a billion dollar company from my father? I’ve also never been declared bankrupt so swings and roundabouts really.

”This thread is about the positives of Trump”

That is extremely rich coming from someone who has derailed other threads specifically about Ireland by discussing Trump and federal employees in the US over and over again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

Are you denying he invested money in the large hotel in Co. Clare, or denying he created hundreds of jobs there?

If you Google it, you will see he both invested the money and created lots of jobs there. No question about it.

This thread is about the positives of Trump. If you want to list the negatives, start a thread on that and list the alleged 30,000 times he lied, instead of attempting to derail this thread like the poster above, Gary Dunne.

Him owning a golf course is hardly a positive as a president, is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,868 ✭✭✭FishOnABike

There's over 5000km and an ocean between us. That's about as positive as it gets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

He invested tens of millions in Ireland and created 300 jobs. That might not be much for you but it done more for Ireland than inspiring the naming of a motorway plaza., or the other President saying Mayo for Sam but not investing a cent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

The course was built in 2002. Trump bought it on the cheap in 2014. So he didn't build a hotel and create jobs.

He ramped up the prices of the course so that its too expensive for average Joe golfer to play.

It runs at significant losses on an ongoing basis, and is basically just a tool for Trump to offset income from other investments and avoid tax bills.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,536 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I don't see the big deal that he owns a golf course. As pointed out above, he didn't build it and if he hadn't bought it I'm sure somebody else would.

Having said that, it is embarrassing that there is a Barack Obama plaza, but that's not really on him, is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

He has still invested many millions there, expanded and improved it and it sustains 300 jobs last time I heard.

Nobody went to Ballina because of Biden or Supermacs in Obama plaza because of Obama.

Aren’t you banned from 2 threads for derailing them talking about Trump?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

This thread is literally about "Trump the positives". I am surely entitled to point out positive attributes of Trump. I got banned from 2 other thread - the last time without even any warning - for pointing out truths the moderator did not agree with. Here a moderator is after putting up a very low quality post by just saying "let's see some proof" when it is indisputable Trump has invested millions in his business in Co. Clare and it has supported hundreds of jobs for years.

If I reply I might even get banned again for going on about Trump, even though the points I am making are fully relevant in a thread titled Trump the Positives.

You stalking me like another poster has, and making personal attacks and getting away with it, is just more confirmation of bias.

The answer to this thread is to understand who the REAL Trump is …… first off a lot of the policy we get originates from Netanyahu ….. killing Soleimani withdrawing from JCPOA …… or Musk ….. all that DOGE stuff ….. or whatever else ….. I notice that with all the negative stuff there is actually ALWAYS someone way above Trump who orders it ….. Netanyahu and his brand of Israel have too much control over America period ….. not just Trump but all recent versions ….. and Musk has way too much power because he bails out Trump ….. Trump without these forces is harder to fathom ….. I think that Musk more than Trump is at present the more powerful leader in America ….. but hopefully that can change ASAP ….. no doubt Musk is too big for his boots and is not a positive influence …..

If Trump can end Ukraine war, temper Netanyahu's warmongering, do a deal with Iran even if it is basically Obama's deal but he takes credit for reviving a deal he destroyed in the first place!, and break free from Musk, then who knows ?? …. he could turn out okay …..

PS …. Reagan started out of shaky ground …. but redeemed himself in his second term and helped peace ….. maybe Trump can be the same ….. but all depends on the other people around him and Trump as it stands is one of the most compromised of US presidents …..

So Trump isn't responsible for creating 300 jobs then. Thanks for confirming.

Mod: Stop discussing moderation on a thread!

Now can you provide actual evidence of the amount he invested in Ireland and the numbers employed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

A 2 second Google shows the Irish Times reported he employs 300 during high season. It does not matter much if he employs an average of 214 people or a high season total of 300.

How many jobs did Biden create in Ballina, or what did Obama put any money in to the takeaway on the motorway named after him?

I think the Trump property in Co. Clare cost in the region of 14 million but he added to it and improved it after. I think it is safe to say Trump invested"millions" in Co. Clare. All of the locals, or at least most of them, there are very appreciative of his investment, according to online reports.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 43,070 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

I'm not looking for the opinions of some locals or details on Obama or Biden. Nor am I going to research your claim. So, last time, can you provide us with a link to your 300 employees claim and for the money invested?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

I'm on a phone and cannot do links on the phone but a 2 second Google shows Trump invested millions in Co. Clare and employs hundreds there, which is what I said.

Do you think he got his large hotel and golf course for free and employs nobody there?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 43,070 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

But you see, you're expecting me to research and verify your claims which is not the way its done around here.

However, I did search (for longer than two seconds) and I didn't find anything that made reference to 300 employees.

What I did find was this:

The latest accounts for TIGL Enterprises Ltd, of Trump International Hotel & Golf Links, Doonbeg, Co Clare, show that the Doonbeg resort had an average of 137 employees during 2021, the latest year for which accounts are available, and paid staff remuneration of €4.8 million.

If we're to get your figure if 300 employees then there will be large periods where there is next to no staff!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

If u Google "how many does Trump employ in Co. Clare" you will see the first result is the Irish Times headline he employs 300 during high season.

I do not care how many he employed during 2020/2021 during covid.

He still employs a considerable number in Co. Clare, and as locals there will tell you, there are a lot of spin off jobs as well, eg suppliers to the hotel, same as with any other large hotel / golf course.

If you do not think that is a positive, the title of this thread, that's your problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,548 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

I suppose a positive of this term is there is no debate around what he sees himself as.

A full on dictator who is above the law. At least people know with certainty what they are dealing with.

    https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/trump-break-law-presidents-day-1235269528/

“He who saves his Country does not violate any Law,” Trump posted online — not just once, but twice. The president felt strongly enough about the sentiment (which several observers pointed out appeared to be based on an apparently fake quote from Napoleon) that he blasted it out on his own Truth Social site as well as his account on Musk’s platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Of course "saving the country" is subjective, transferring wealth from federal programs to the likes of Musk is "saving the country" in MAGA land.

The buyers remorse on this term will be mammoth. I suppose that is another positive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

Stop derailing the thread. The point is Trump did invest millions in Co. Clare and his large hotel and golf course employs hundreds there. That is got to be a positive, the point of this thread.

Maybe you would prefer him just to be like Biden, whose got a take away on a motorway named after him, or Biden, who was popular in Ballina because he said "Mayo for Sam" while there but his popularity declined there because of Biden's perceived support for Israel after Hammas invaded Israel during Biden's watch.

Mod: I'm going to step in here now. You made various claims without providing a source and when asked many times for one, you expected others to look it up using an excuse that you were on your phone (as was I when I provided a link and quote which contradicted your claim). When someone offers you help, don't snipe at them! People here have been patient with your poor attempts at defending Trump's "small potatoes" business interest in Ireland so don't get ratty when people try to be helpful!

As for you repeatedly referencing Biden & Obama: as you say, don't derail the thread!
